CROSSBOWS

Recommended Posts

i 110% think crossbows should have sights/scopes, such as 4x scopes CCO scopes and mabye even an 8x scope. just throwing ideas out there to make the crossbow have some actual use in the game because up to now its pretty pointless... anyone else agree ??

Its kind of pointess to suggest anything for the mid at this time to be honest. Were on the cusp of the standalone, and if crossbows aren't in it, I'll be quite annoyed... You can't have a zombie apocalypse and not have crossbows. IMO, they should be more common than guns.

Well in SA you will be able to find scopes and stuff so maybe you could take a scope and put it on the crossbow in dayz SA?

With crossbows being in SA, its evil twin sister should also be preset. The Compound Bow. I have always been a HUGE fan of Compound bows and I will be VERY VERY disappointed if SA doesn't include one.

Crossbows should be as common as they are, but silenced weapons need to be toned way down. We should be seeing people using crossbows as a silenced weapon instead

I don't know about that....there is only one person i know off in my street who owns firearms, the other guys ( an acquaintance ) dad had a shotgun and maybe another rifle and a couple of handguns but no crossbow, the last guy i know of is a weapon fanatic who loves to collect replicas and stuff like that. Neither of them has a crossbow...the guys with real firearms are hunters. Oh yeah and neither of my colleagues nor others acquaintances owns a crossbow either...that would be a lot of people...one or two might own an air rifle or pistol. Must be common where you live if you say so.

About crossbow attachments..i wonder how much it would help if you mounted a 8x scope on it...that thing is only good to 50-75m accurately right? Most hunters who hunt at that distance use sights like holo sights or other "open" aimpoint devices because they can acquire their target faster.

Cross bows are effective out past 100 yards. They're illegal in my state for hunting (Oregon) because of how much easier it can make poaching.

I agree with you that crossbows are not common. But I think they would be more common than military grade silencers. And if you did find some badass clutching one in his lifeless hands, chances are that he used all of the ammo himself.

You're right, crossbows should not be as common as civilian/hunting firearms. BUT, if they only spawned in deer stands and had a drop rate similar to the CZ, they could become a desirable item (assuming silenced weapons become truly scarce).

I've caught myself using a crossbow if i happen to find enough ammo for it ( i love the quiver ) and of course when i don't expect to run into triggerhappy KoSers like the one time this freshspawn tried to shoot me with the last shot out of his silenced makarov. I could have gone after him with my browning hp but what for? That guy only had balls to shoot a player who just shot a zombie and was reloading his crossbow while crouching and missed..not worth the sprint.

It would sure be a lot more fun if the spawn rates of shotguns, pistols and semi or bolt action rifles was much higher than those of military guns. I mostly see players running to those sites even before thinking of getting some food, shows their gaming priority. Yesterday was the first time ever that i found a CZ550 (!!!!) that's how rare this shit is compared to how often i stumbled over tons of assault rifles ( didn't need it, close and personal gives a potential target less time to combat log  )

what about a crossbow pistol

That would probably take 800 bolts to kill a person.

Why not treat reloading like the bolt cycling of a bolt action.

You should be able to instantly reload to a different quiver also allowing for different bolts in different quivers.

Then you can also load a quiver with arrows like mags with bullets.

Should work the same with coy pound bows & stuff.

So is the zombie genre...ground breaking huh? While the DayZ zeds are "realistic" compared to the undead ones if you consider the bathsalts incidents as zombie behaviour cases in DayZ with a virus instead of a drug.

I'm sure reloading a crossbow would be a pain in the ass, shooting a bow would go much faster imo. But the advantage is clear, it's quiet and quite accurate for it's purpose but doesn't reach far. So far this is one of the weapons that has a built in balance compared to the .50 you can carrry around like a toy gun. Choosing quivers with different arrows could work like changing mag ( ammo ) types right now.

The advantage of a crossbow over a bow is that you can fire instantly, however... That might be a disadvantage, the drawing of a bow might give you clarity to your thoughts, fix your aim, convince you to pull a knife on this zombie.

One thing I''d like to see is the abillityy to make a crossbow out of assault rifle parts and scrap. Like the one in BF3 Aftermath.....
