[POLL] Are you going to Kill on Sight with new item degradation system ?

Recommended Posts

funny thing is the actual extra gear and degrading is going to actually increase kill on sight.

oh i need a new bag i need new boots ill shoot him to get those items. it will end up more kos than now. also what people forget is there will be upto 150 people on a server  x3 times more kos potential now than most modded servers. people think its going to go down its going to go up !

It's funny how many people say they're friendly. As soon as they die 3 times from KOS, you know what they're gonna start doing.

its the snowball effect of what Dayz allows.

its way without coding or mechanics it'll be impossible to not have the KoS issue transfer directly right over and into SA.

That poll is a bit too complex and the options are way too specific.

Will I kill-on-sight? Yes.

Why? Because I am scared the other person will kill me and then I have to start over.

Do I care about the other person's inventory? Sure, but I care about survival more. I'll have my own food and drink...

Klill-on-sight makes sense for the most part, because if there was a real zombie appocolypse, I wouldn't wait for a guy to come close to have a chat. Unless the guy is unarmed and I feel ok, I would shoot him to protect my family and myself. And of course my stuff.

The key will be to remain undetected, detect other players, and avoid them for the most part.

I love how you cry and cry when everyone else provides evidence that is the OPPOSITE of what you think (Polls, studies, etc.)

But you just make shit up and apparently that passes?

Just because you were dropped on your head as a child and clearly suffered some sort of debilitating injury doesn't mean everyone else completely lacks the ability to think critically about a situation.

perfectly good threads its been done to death then people just repost same shit over and over. guess what ? as soon as this is done some other fool will post a new one on how we can stop KOS. its getting quite stupid. most admins do abuse the tools ive been on alot of servers and its clear that the tools have partly ruined the game. why you think in standalone its all locked down ? for fun ?

the real funny thing is he only did the poll in the hope it would show more dont like KOS and guess what it did show even hardcore players love KOS more than fluffy bunny world. get over it already.

Get over what? I haven't argued with you about KoS. Can you please read? I'm arguing that if you don't like what is posted, then you have the full option of not posting on it and starting a flaming war. You have done exactly that over the past few threads made, because apparently you've found a way to push certain members buttons.

So what if it's the same shit posted over and over again? It's not your job to deem what is worth to be posted. And if you wish to argue about stuff being posted over and over... LOOK AT YOUR HISTORY FFS! All you contribute to these threads is the same exact thing over and over. So not only are you a part of the KoS problem, you're a part of the worthless content problem.

You can't argue with stupid.

I'm not trying to argue with stupid. I'm trying to get stupid to go somewhere else.

I think people will just try harder to headshot so they leave (most) containers undamaged.. lol.

Doesn't really provide a cold-cut solution, I think we need hardcore zombie/PvE threat in order to yield the masses.

edit: On a similar note, I've been shot at by Hero-skinned players when I was not a bandit and did not fire at him first. So in the current state the game is in, it's hard NOT to kill-on-sight when even heroes run around like it's a call of duty free-for-all.

It's not a proper KoS thread unless I remind dgeesio how stupid everything he posts is, it's just the way the world works.

On a lighter note, the results for the poll so far are quite interesting, I would never have guessed there were so many players that were purely friendly - a surprising number of players that will change their play-style too to adapt to the new mechanic.

This poll really means nothing, because as it was put a few posts up...

There IS going to be a fair amount of killing on sight, and it's going to add up and up and up till we get to where we are in the mod. The only true way to stop this is to force play styles on people, aka bad idea. Or make loots so rare that there's no point in even playing the game anymore

I've played on quite a few hardcore veteran vanilla DayZ servers (most military weapons banned, etc you get the idea) and there was still a lot of killing on sight. Most people don't care about loot rarity, they just want to kill stuff

I'm a friendly player but I rarely play the mod, couldn't find any good hardcore server except for those with donator perks, 1k vehicles etc.

I found the vanilla dayz boring, even after the updates, felt like endgame has really not much to offer for friendly players except for like giving someone a lift or searching for wounded players and bandage them/transfer blood ( which mostly is now useless due to most servers I've seen has self bloodbad addon ).

I voted that I'm friendly, but as it is in the mod right now, for example, if I see someone running towards me with a hatchet, I'd consider him as a threat to me. If I consider someone as a threat to me, I'm trying to act in self defence; eliminate threat. So under certain circumstances I might KoS.

I never cared about loot, so item degradation won't affect my gameplay that much. If it's kill-or-be-killed situation I'd not give a shit about gear I probably damaged. But what I believe IS going to change my gameplay, are the gestures. When I'll see someone weaving/surrendering I'd feel more safe and certainly won't do any hostile actions. Even if someone would trap me like that and steal all my precious beans, I guess I'd find it more entertaining than just a regular DayZ Mod KoS.

You know, more things to talk about with friends, like 'Oh, and that guy was weaving at me, lured me and then 5 guys jumped out of bushes and killed me' rather than just 'I died'.

I might also try another playstyles, but none of them would include KoS as it's not fun experience for me.

As for the topic, in my opinion there are still going to be plenty of KoS bandits, and it can't be helped without penalizing it.

But DayZ without KoS players wouldn't be so challenging, if there'd be only friendly players, everyone'd get bored quite fast because from what I've seen so far, DayZ SA zombies aren't really challenging.

But those are only my 2 cents here.

Of course there will be a lot of KoS in the SA - the problem with the mod is that there are literally no other threats and really nothing else to do as well as no real downside to the KoS playstyle (In comparison to every other playstyle).

Zombies at the moment are a minor annoyance at most and people just go into buildings/hug a tree to drop them - once they come in bigger numbers and continue to chase us at full speed they will become a lot more of a threat, potentially even a big enough threat that you don't want to risk alerting them by firing your weapon unless you really have to.

People are always going to KoS to defend themselves, this isn't the problem - it's perfectly understandable if you come face-to-face with another player and it's either shoot or be shot if you are both out in the open, the real problem is the 'HURR DURR IMA KOS EVERY ti3M' who are literally playing just to shoot people.

There should be consequences for firing your weapon (Currently in the mod it's alerting zombies/players) which isn't bad at all - once there is more of a deterrent to discharging your weapon for no good reason it will make a lot of people rethink. (Alerting zombies that are an actual threat, limited ammo, degradation).

The SA will obviously contain people that need to stroke their e-peen but won't (read: can't) do it in a real competitive environment, there are mechanics that can make it worse for them (and make the game more fun and in-depth) but it won't stop them - the point isn't to stop them anyway so it all works out better.

We get a better, more challenging game with more consequences for out actions (and thus require though).

They get to play a game where they shoot people (and complain about having to scavenge and eat/drink in between).

I don't understand the KoS mentality. Some of the best experiences I've had in the mod have been from random people who I ended up hanging out with. Each to their I suppose.

As for all those idiots complaining that this thread has been done to death, there's a very simple solution:

Don't fucking read it then.

If the topics start becoming more and more frequent but the content within them does not change then that won't be the primary solution.

I think I might damage my gear to near-destroyed and run around with it.

That's the same for me - whether it is teaming up with a completely random player or executing a properly planned and perfectly laid out trap it's the sheer fact that anything could go wrong at any time and you just have to roll with it.

KoS on occasion gets the job done but I find it quite boring since it never leaves any opportunity for anything good to develop - the only time I will really KoS is if I'm at an airfield.. people are never too friendly at the airfields.. it's just really taking the easy way out.
