People! Tiny mistakes can mean the difference between life and death!

Recommended Posts

I'm sneaking into Cherno on a mission to stock up on some much needed medical supplies.  I'm pretty low on blood and I just used my last morphine autoinjector to recover from a devastating one-punch by a zombified Evander Holyfield with retard strength at a barren chopper crash outside Starry,  It's early in the morn' so I think it's safe as most people are still curled up in their beds or tents or under an overpass somewhere.

Long story short, I make my way around the back of the Cherno hospital since the apartments in front tend to attract passer-bys looking to grab a Saturday Night Special and the nearby grain elevator often makes a convenient sniper perch.  I'm about to round the corner when all of a sudden I hear...

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzip!!

The sound of someone opening their pack!

Then I hear it again!

Cautiously peeking around the corner, I see a couple of heavily armed fellas with military grade assault weapons rummaging through the hospital.  Well, I hate to be one of those jerks who just kill first and ask questions later (in spite of my many stories that seem to always end with "and that's why I had to kill that guy").  But in my weakened state, I simply could not afford to take the chance that these guys might not be in a mood to make friends.  Especially with them safe in there and me stuck out on the street.  A couple of quick bursts from my M4 renders their hospital visit a moot point.

The moral of the story is that even a seemingly small and insignificant detail like opening a pack in the wrong place and time and make the difference between life and death.  So pay attention!

This is why I always hide zombie bodies if I'm in a place where there might be others, and I always pick up empty tin/soda cans after eating/drinking. Wonderful story, OP. :)

Nice story, goes to show little things like a dead zombie or a bag zip can mean life and death.

Are you sure the zip sound wasn't from one of the guy's trousers?

Gets lonely in the apocalypse.

Then you killed them. Heartless.

The zip sound extends about 6 feet, you'd have to practically be standing on someone to hear it.
