Difficulties with game.

Recommended Posts

Zombies are extremely difficult to deal with. I never find a weapon, roam about five minutes, get chased by zombies I cannot lose, and eventually get killed, rinse and repeat.

Any way to find a decent weapon? The zombies eyesight is EXTREMELY inconsistant! I've had a zombie mile away spot me and rush towards me, while the one much closer just sits there. I have issues losing the zombies too. They chase you endlessly!

There is nothing I can do to prevent this, even if I'm prone, and moving slowly!

The invatory system is EXTREMELY clunky. I've had cases where I pick up a hatchet and it is somehow "Out of Ammo."

Why can't I use my fists? Will hand to hand be implemented in the standalone? I have not been paying attention to the dev progress of it.

If I do find a weapon, it often falls victim to the backpack destroying items glitch.

Will ANY of this be fixed in the standalone? The entire mod as a whole (And arma 2 in general, actually) Just feels "Clunky".  It is seriously impacting the game for me and I honestly don't want to play anymore untill it is fixed.

1. Loose zeds in buildings with 2 entrances, on hills and in forests. Or just don't aggro them with moving totally out of their ways.

2. Add it to your toolbelt and put it back into your hands, it should have ammo then. Additionally, as far as I saw it the ammo gets reset to 100000 frequently if you have it in your hands since the last update.

3. The engine makes this impossible for the mod, maybe it gets added to the standalone, but I can't guarantee it.

4. Learn to use the Arma inventory, always move weapons out of the backpack into your hands when switching with another weapon and/or look into your backpack if it has enough space (10 slots) in order to store a weapon in there.

Allow me to continue a long standing tradition.

WELCOME TO DAYZ.

Now deal with it or leave. It is an incomplete product, and does not represent the final version of said product. Nobody twisted your hand. Numerous videos, threads, jokes, and even t-shirts have already made DayZ infamous in it's current state for bugs. You should have been aware of that when you bought Arma 2 for a free mod.

And before you get offended, please don't. You can't expect to show up, make a post complaining about issues that have existed more or less since the beginning of the mod, and be taken seriously. That's the whole reason why the developers are ironing these issues out in the standalone, as they have source code access and a team of experienced, dedicated, developers.

There's a bit to figure out at first like how to lose zombies or avoid aggro entirely and learning how to use the inventory. Practice makes perfect, just try to have fun.

First, use buildings with two entrances to lose zombies.

Second, there's nothing that can really be done about the inventory in the mod, as the mod can't really change it. As for the hatchet, drop it and pick it back or add it to your toolbelt then back into your inventory.

Hand to hand has been talked about multiple times as a possibility for the standalone.

Simply put, don't put the weapon in a backpack that's to small. You need ten slots to fit a gun in your pack.

Finally, yes, most all of what you've talked about is being completely re-done. See this video for a click glimpse at what has been done so far: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03Mpxtl4Rdg

Finally, read the devblogs for info on the major under-the-hood changes: http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/

Hope I helped!

It's all pretty much down to you being bad.

That's fine though, you're new, we were all there at some point and DayZ does take a little bit of getting used to.

Once you play you will definitely get a hang of all the little 'quirks' of the mod, most of them are not because it was badly made but because the Arma II engine was REALLY not made for this type of game.

For example, one problem with Arma II is that there was no melee weapons to base the hatchet on - the hatchet is actually a gun with a very short range which is why you have to 'reload' it to get it started.

Since these are all pretty much problems with the limited implementation of the engine itself none of these should be much of a problem in the standalone, the standalone is MEANT to be a zombie game so the clunky inventory and melee weapons will be actually implemented and much less 'clunky' feeling.

i suggest you to search the new player sections, with many tips/tricks threads which are really helpful, they also put you aware about glitches. weapons are a bit everywhere:

try barns: they always have 2 exits to loose zombies and are great for spotting rifles on the ground.

just play to get better at the game, who cares if you loose an enfield and a compass?

maybe play with someone else?

Backpacks only eat items if it lacks room, at that point it's up to you to properly manage it, as cumbersome as that can get. You'll learn to work with it and be prepared for the task at hand before it's too late.

You can hide in a pine tree to lose zombies, and remember, you can hold SHIFT to walk. Walking while crouched is often the best way (imo) to go through an area in case you have to pick up the pace immediately. I generally do that once I hit pavement to keep the noise down.

The inventory system isn't god-awful, it just takes getting used to and wasn't made for getting through quickly like you'd be used to in other games. You learn where different things are placed typically and how to navigate it pretty quick, it shouldn't be an issue if you play some more.

Right now, finding a decent weapon is easy. Go into a barn, pray to the DayZ gods (or sacrifice a goat with a hatchet), and you'll have a Lee in no time. The Lee Enfield is powerful and accurate, with its main drawback being that it's extremely loud. I like it though, no one is going to find you if you're careful.

If you want we could play sometime and I'd join you on a little adventure to help show you the ropes.

Also, if you haven't already, do some of the ArmA tutorials and play around with certain things in the editor to get used to them before it matters. Things like flying (in case you snag a heli), shooting accurately at a distance with various rifles, as well as getting familiar with the map are pretty helpful things to know sooner rather than later.

I just have one thing to ask you

Are you possibly playing in 1.5?

Because if not, all I have for you is demeaning laughter.

Enjoy your noobie time Toybasher, it really is were the best fun is :) Finding out how it all works by making mistakes is frustrating sometimes but once you get on top of it, it is rewarding :)

Learn the basics and don't worry about getting your first kill in or trying to be a 'boss', travel around the map and check things out, get your bearings and don't get stuck in the 'Cherno and Elektro' are the only places on the map trap'.

It is glitchey, you will lose shit for no reason, you will die from a rock or something random for no reason, you will get your ass handed to you by snipers, kos types and 'friendlies'. Just get out in the Chernarus world and explore and learn, grab some zeds and then run through a forest and work out what makes them lose track of you. (hint..zig zag through the big fir trees) Check backpack slots before putting items in. Never go anywhere without Morphine, bandage and painkillers. Knife, hatchet and matches are your best friend.

Gawd i wish i could start again and have the same problems :D
