where should we spawn in standalone?

Recommended Posts

If you guys don't mind me asking, what is so bad about the current system?

By now everyone knows exactly where they are... everyone knows where they are, too. More randomness please.

Not only that, they get to choose where they want to spawn too - no need for a little walk, just choose Cherno or Elektro and get straight back into the shit.

Stupid.

I'm assuming (hoping) that's not even an option for standalone :|

sure, but als long as you still get the location at spawn (the text in the lower right corner) it doesn't matter anyways right? I just don't want that whole KOS mentality brought up north... The reason pvp is so intense at the coast is that everybody spawns there and has decent loot. Now if we have people spawn more inland, they will bring the kos further up...

I'm not a big fan of it tbh. Here is what I say : Let the Kos'ers do their deathmatch in elektro and cherno, but please don't spread it to the rest of the map. To me the Kos sounds like the real infection

I think it will be. The (only) reason I am in favor of the spawn selection is that people will (sadly) kill themselves over and over to get to where they want anyways. I'd rather have the SS and not a map full of bodies. Especially if you can spawn in the whole map. Just kill yourself untill you are in walking distance of the NWAF. Shouldn't take more than 3 or 5 suicides.

Bad idea imho

This is the problem - coastal spawn is so easy to identify where you are.

A suggestion: perhaps on first login, you are not told your location in the bottom right-hand corner as you spawn with no map, and the location is completely random (be it all over the map, or a couple of km inland..). Only once you have obtained a map on your character, can you log in and have your location anchored with the text in the bottom right-hand corner?

Yep it should be random, across the map but should also be plausible. I don't think randomly spawning in the middle of the woods is plausible - why would you just be out in the woods? However, it can be made plausible by adding a tent and a camp fire. Another spawn location could be by wrecked cars (as in you just wrecked it). In houses would be the main ones but there's other possibilities as well. Coastal spawns are useless now - we all know the map so just make us spawn all over it - there's no reason not to, is there?

The echo chamber effect of this forum is strong.

Remember when the coastal spawns were disorienting and the only option we had was to follow the coast to landmarks? I remember that feeling too but after logging an insane amount of time in the mod it has become easy to navigate from anywhere. Lingor Island did not spawn players on the coast everytime and there was a variety to the spawns as well, but even spawning in the for the first time I knew how to navigate already and the feeling of being lost was never as intense as those first few play sessions.

Essentially you are all searching for something that will never be reclaimed, you can not go back to the time when the game was new and confusing. All I am seeing is false hope of that feeling returning. Meanwhile the second I see even a small town I will know where I am at and spawning in the middle of the map is a dream come true.

Beyond the fact that you will never reclaim that feeling there is the small fact that the standalone is not being made with only veteran mod players in mind. Coastal spawns give new players the opportunity to at least start learning the map so they can navigate better.

one of the main things is to utilize the whole map. by starting all round the map in many different locations you will visit more places than you currently would now. if each little town village area also has something worth getting finding it makes the game much more interesting instead of lets go electo and chern.

i like the idea of spawning anywere on lower 1/2 of map..

spawning near NWAF would just promote a zerg of freshies runing strait into the hanger/barracks cuz they have nothing to lose..

i dont promote anything that takes away from the mindset of Dayz.

running into a hotspot cuz u have no gear and could careless if your popped is NOT what dayz should be about..

I GOT IT!! unless someone already said it.....we should spawn in air with a parachute, that way u can atleast decide with direction u wanna land in.

or...no parachute...then it turns into another minigame where the object is to land in a pond/lake

I would prefer a selection of a city and then a random spot within that city.  ONLY reason for this, is to make it easier to meet up with friends and not spend all night running to them.

I'd like for it to never be the same and maybe far far away from any big cities that away less new spawns will get killed right when they start up and make it so you HAVE to kill pigs and cows and hell even dogs to eat and 1 can of beans doesn't last you 2 hours worth of running.

There are easy ways to change this AND make the game better.

For example, you spawn:

CHERNARUS

Unidisclosed Location

Day 0

__

Every time you log in, you'd get the same message, only the date changing as you advance - if you want the location name to properly appear it requires a map in your inventory.

This would mean that the early game is still fun, getting lost and trying to navigate to civilization but if you get geared up and decide to take a break for a while you have a location due to having the proper equipment.

__

The bottom half of the map is a good balance between having many spawn locations but not making it too overwhelming for newer players - the main activity hubs (Cherno, Elektro, Stary) are all nearby and once you get your bearings it's easy enough to navigate to if you're a veteran player - there are also road signs everywhere which new players can take advantage of along with the possibility of spawning on the coast making it even easier.

Once you know the map, you know the map - there is no coming back from that and you WILL lose a lot of the mystique of the unknown that DayZ had in the beginning but the southern half of the map, in my eyes, is a good trade-off between being hard but not too overwhelming for the inevitable new players that will join us in the future.

RANDOM is the key i agree. But also add some kind of script to avoid spawning near others survivor. Getting kos right after respawn is not funny at all

I am new btw, cant wait for SA  :)

Random, literally it should be anywhere in the entire map. One thing I hate about the spawn system in the mod is it's only ever the coast, or if a server has a spawn select it's a city. You should have no choice and it should be possible to spawn in the middle of the woods with no idea where the hell you are.

This will cut down on people running back to their bodies, when you're dead, you start over. That is how DayZ should be,

You have my beans!

Random, with some sort of algorithm that makes sure you're say, 1km from any player.

So it picks a spawn spot, checks player locations around that spot, if anyone is around(within predetermined distance) it recalculates the location and tries again.

I'd be happy with it being completely random but with some large exclusion zones around major towns and airfields. Could be in a building or you spawn prone if outside, as if you just woke up.

I would like some sort of server check to make you spawn a minimum distance from any other players, maybe about 100m, just to limit spawn killing.

Edit: Didn't see your post Dortmunder...
