Mos1ey 6301 Posted September 8, 2013 That was not what I was talking about. Is there any solution for server hoppers? In Mod it was a huge problem until private servers dominated. People just went to NWAF got on a low populated server and switched servers until they had high value gear. Also people server hoppen in combat situations, after you engaged someone he gets in cover, servers hops and in 5 mins he is behind you. I remember AWA #1 and #2 used to be linked and there was a 15 minute delay after logging out of one before you could connect to the other. That worked pretty well against ghosting and server hopping. mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted September 8, 2013 When we know there will be different server options, moving from one type of server to another is always going to be a sore point. (gearing up and shifting server) If settings are ALL pre-set (no mixing and matching) then locking characters to specific server settings seems reasonable. It's not really the same as "multiple characters", but it could serve that purpose to an extent. Eg. If I'm playing alone, I've got my lonewolf character on a Merc-server. But if I'm playing as part of a group I'll most likely be on a Veteran-server.I'd still have the same profile name etc. but it's essentially an alt. account. BigChef 55 Posted September 9, 2013 Another issue with multiple characters is that a player would be able to set up at all the choice sniper spots and choose which one to log into. he could be at Cherno, the hill above the power plant in Electro, an escape route outside Balota, stary or NWAF then watch or listen to side chat and move to where the action is. Not much different then a telleporting script/hack...No Bueno
Frytek 130 Posted September 9, 2013 That would become one big ExploitZ. Thousands of ways to sneak from death, avenge myself, loot, switching gear. One char only.

Mos1ey 6301 Posted September 9, 2013 So if I get into a laggy server I have to wait 15 minutes until I can join another one? If you remember the days of the main hive all the servers were pretty similar performance wise.

Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted September 9, 2013 There will be systems in place to stop server hopping (apparently). As I understand it if a pattern is recognised (by magic) of a player frequently hopping from server to server they will be penalised for that probably in the form of a timed delay and that could increase if the behaviour continued. That's what's been discussed anyway. The main reason would be to stop loot farming although the new loot spawn system in itself will go some way to stopping that too.
Zombie Jesus 723 Posted September 9, 2013 I'm not sure. I just think think that being tied to one character means every decision you make as that character becomes more important to you. For example if I can switch characters, I could have one "serious" character and one for douching around with. If my "douching around" character decides to mess with someones "serious" character then it could easily ruin their day because I'd be just messing around without worrying about the consequences (because my "proper" character is safe) and they'd be playing very differently because they're basically worried about the outcome. Here I was thinking every character was for douching around. Rest assured that if you see Zombie Jesus in a server he will be a huge douche. I see both sides, I do enjoy playing a throw away character and it would make group play easier since friends could keep a character in a certain spot and then use other characters when the group is not playing. To stop the WarZ (I am sorry Infestation Survivor Schmucks) scenario from happening they could make it impossible to log onto a server where another character is located. That way you would not see someone die only to bring another character into the server to kill you. Both outcomes have pros and cons and Fraggle did point out one of the biggest cons to allowing multiple characters. Here I come with an Enfield and a water bottle without a care in the world and I murder the fully geared role playing character someone else has spent a ton of time gearing up. It makes risk taking irrelevant, I lost nothing and have a fully geared character to fall back on. I lean toward not allowing multiple characters but in the end I will still find enjoyment either way it pans out.
NagsterTheGangster 388 Posted September 11, 2013 Having one character could also help for trading rep. nobody wants to trade with a bandit..
broguenz 333 Posted September 11, 2013 Are there going to be private and public hives for the SA?
fluxley 2228 Posted September 11, 2013 Are there going to be private and public hives for the SA? Rocket has said initially it will be one public hive only and then they might allow private at some point in the future. Though i wouldn't be surprised if private hives pop up regardless of what Rocket wants. Personally i hope it stays public only.
sausagekingofchicago 4711 Posted September 11, 2013 One solution to the obvious abuse this system would come with would be to have one character bound to a specific server. The other character simply couldn't join that server. This way we could have our home server character and another for when our pals are not online.
Prion 61 Posted September 11, 2013 I'd prefer if your username and character were properly attached. There should be consequences for being a dick, having a reputation following you around is good for that, currently people act like dicks, change their name and try to fuck people over because they don't know who they really are, your identity should be part of you, not something you can change when you don't want to be recognised. I don't think we should limit any of this, and that this is one of those things that should be server policy, like 3P or 24/7 day, etc. I'm not against the idea, just against mandating the idea for everyone and reducing options.
