Item damage in Dayz SA looks dumb...

Recommended Posts

Never played the games yet, but been reading a lot of threads and checking out videos :)

when you die do you start over? (dumb question) mainly asking because I wondered how item damage will effect the current game culture. it's been pointed out that it will reduce how many players KOS, but do you think players will target specific body parts to avoid damaging items stored in other areas?

how many areas can be damaged that also contain items? and will the item damage make you alter where you store items so that players don't specifically target the areas that contain the least useful items to them in most peoples setup.

Hello there

I think it's fine to comment on and question anything and everything thats going on with the development, sometimes folk hear things from incorrect sources or misinterpret correct information.

What one needs to do is put one's point across in an intelligent reasoned way otherwise one risks the chance that folk will consider one a bit of a nincompoop and may get flamed by the fanbase.

Measure twice, cut once.

Miffy just don't watch any more videos and don't buy the alpha and just wait until it's a full game because you clearly don't undersand how to approach it.

would that be 6 months from now, or 6 months from 6 months from now ???

have to have your head pretty far in the sand if you dont see that Rocket is clearly suffering from dev. feature creep at this point..

this is NOT a retail-release candidate we are all waiting on. its a VERY early ALPHA.

bugs n missing features are what we al expect and understand. thats why its a ALPHA, not even a beta for cripes sake.

Um... it's not feature creep. Not everyone works on the same part of the code. So we should just have Bill sit around and watch netflix all day while waiting for Bob to finish the network bubble that is actually what they are waiting on to release SA? Instead we could pay Bill to code the inventory system, or have John work on new textures... nah... pay them to sit and do nothing while we wait for the important stuff.

if I get a bit of glass in my foot, I pull it out and get over it, but I bet in this system I'll get aids and die.

it's because someone was doing naughty things with a glass bottle before it broke.

Oh yeah man, something got damage in an unrelated area in an UNRELEASED ALPHA GAME VERSION.

I hate, hate, hate the whole 'it's an ALPHA' or the 'It's a BETA' argument that people use as a blanket-argument against anything that needs fixing, but seriously.

It's a fucking alpha.

Hello there

Check the dev blog for the reasoning for the damage being incorrect. It wasnt broken in the first place.

EDIT: This is aimed at everyone not the quoted poster.

Correction: Damage in the DayZ SA ALPHA looks dumb.

They are just showing what its like.

It is still in alpha, quit complaining.

He's not complaining, just expressing his legitmate concerns about the game. If nobody did this, they would leave it like it is for SA instead of now changing it between beta and SA.

Yeah, the item condition is pretty dumb. I dont feel like repairing my hatchet after slicing 10 zombies in half.

Yeah, I mean when I chop things with my ax it stays sharp and useful and I never have to sharpen it.... oh wait.

Orlok pointed it out earlier that the way you phrase a legitimate concern is how you will be treated. There will always be fans who think Alpha means no criticism and there will always be those who find everything objectionable. If you want to have a decent conversation about a feature during an Alpha you should approach it better than the OP approached the issue. He also completely glossed over the information that was already available in the video. Instead of acknowledging that it was still a work in progress the OP pretended it was the end product and one shot will destroy everything. If they had approached the topic better they would have received a better response, instead they approached the topic in a somewhat moronic fashion and the OP was quickly treated like a moron. Not saying the OP is a moron, but being unable to comprehend the audio that goes with the video for the devblog does not suggest they are a genius.

If I don't complain now, it'll stay that way when the game releases, so now is the time to complain... stop saying it's alpha, Dean Hall wants feedback and he's getting it.

In theory it's all very realistic and great, in practise it becomes annoying and actually isn't very realistic. In the game time is accelerated in the fact that you're not going to spend 24/7 living in it like you would if you were in a real war, so the mechanics have to be exaggerated. However when this happens then you end up babying everything, like if anyones played Project Zomboid, it just isn't fun always constantly dealing when hunger, tiredness and whatever else, just becomes annoying.

So I think stuff like clothes should be cosmetic, guns should degrade and jam and have to be cleaned, that's fine but it should be a simple process, not having to go round the map trying to find tools. Where is the fun in trainers degrading and having too get new ones because you've become infected in the foot? 1. I've used the same pairs of trainers for 3 years almost every day for work and they are still fine and 2. I walk around in bare feet all the time, I've cut my feet and they've been muddy, I did not need antibiotics as I'm not old or a baby...... that to me is a pointless mechanic.

I like it. Stuff like inventory management and maintenance is a game within a game for me.

Like seriously he fires in one location and suddenly the whole item is damaged? How does that vest just fall apart from 2 shots? Those things can take quite a beating from what I've seen. Also why do items suddenly break like the magazines even though they couldn't have possibly been hit where you fired? Why is the shirt destroyed from a few shots? I fucking slid down the road coming off my Motorcycle at a high speed and my clothes were damaged but they were mostly fine, I bet in SA I would be completely naked and probably have an infection and then die because antibiotics are nowhere to be found.

It is way too gamey and looks shit frankly, I'm not gonna spend my time looking for a new pair of trainers because I might get an injury just because I was shot in the arm and some how my trainers were damaged. Why would you get a foot injury anyways from worn out trainers? At worst you'll get blisters, tbh I walk around all the time in bare feet and I'm fine, if I get a bit of glass in my foot, I pull it out and get over it, but I bet in this system I'll get aids and die.

I think that the SA is going to produce a whole bunch of naturist clans sitting around the camp fire nude.

But seriously I don't think the damage modelling is going to be that good straight off the bat. I think what has just been shown is a vast improvement over what we have seen before. Give it time and I'm sure people will be able to tell I spilt bean sauce down my nice new banana coloured tshirt.

Yes, but he didn't need feedback on what he already knew and admitted right then and there, "I might have to play with the numbers a bit, but you get the concept." It wasn't a presentation on how it was going to stay. It was a presentation that showed they had added the feature to the game and what it would do with an admission that it hadn't been tweaked at all.

Shoes degrade. They degrade faster in poor conditions with heavy use. You should be really happy that shoes magically resize themselves and you don't have to wander around trying to find a pair that is your size.

Clothes are no longer just decoration or camo, they have other functions. Notice there were raincoats in a recent video. He can set raincoats and heavier clothing to slow down heat loss. Clothing items contain storage. They are gear as much as cosmetics now, which is what it should be.

On top of that gear wearing out means you no longer have the idea that you can get X, Y, Z and then go off into the woods and survive forever which does get dull and then translate into "Maybe I'll go shoot someone." and now when shooting someone can ruin the gear they have you can no longer just gear up by letting others take the risks and shooting them as the leave Cherno. So now you might actually have to play DayZ and search for gear.

!!!!!PLACEHOLDERS!!!!!

In "Light Salmon"

Jeez didn't you bother to listen to what he said "The damage output from the guns has been hugely increased" - guess what that will do to an item.

Or did you expect him to shoot the jacket 30 times?

It also says in a round about way that the thread didn't even need creating as the answers were in the video the OP posted lol

I take it Miffy posts silly things often???

Pretty negative often. Like a semi-sophisticated form of trolling, almost.

1- Go to 1:58 to avoid crazy combat bullshit-

2- Watch the gun fly out of his hand.

3- ????

Profit.

"A round struck the tube by my hand of the 203 grenade launcher which knocked it out of my hands. When I picked the rifle back up it was still functional but the grenade launcher tube had a nice sized 7.62 cal bullet hole in it and was rendered useless."

If the concept itself is in question here, I really can't see why. Otherwise, I agree the visual ques could use some improvement, but the concept makes complete sense. Imagine if a Taliban fighter had retrieved that rifle? It would literally be damaged because of his own actions. Cause, and effect.

(Not to mention that the gun clearly absorbed the damage from the bullet, which probably saved his life. So there are more aspects to this feature than simply "mitigating KoS.")

Amazing. Imagine if they could implement something like this.

That simply isn't going to be an issue. Talk about a straw man argument.

In theory, they already have. Guns take damage from bullets in the SA, so assuming they also absorb said damage, it could protect you from being hit. It would be cool if the gun flew out of your hand when it got shot, though.
