Fix the Dang Zombie Damage and AI already

Recommended Posts

I am not sure why this issue is still in game but the Bleeding status effect needs to be a ballanced so that it's chance of occuring is inline with the damage suffered. currently bleeding will occur with one hit from a zombie about 90% of the time. currently even on hard difficulty this is obscine. zombies are unarmed and realistically it would take at least a few hits to cause significant bleeding to occur. either bleeding needs to be something that is limited to severe injuries or the duration of bleeding needs to be strictly contolled based on the wounds suffered and stop on it's own for minor injuries. it is really and i mean really dissapointing that after so many updates you can still bleed out and die from a single zombie hit. for the love of god fix this already.

from a medical and anotomical standpoint it takes a severe trauma to get to the point of bleeding out. additionally in a real survival situation any type of dressing can be used to stop minor blood loss strips of clothing or even leaves for example. for a game that prides it;s self on trying to go for a realistic survival experiance it seems eager to throw realism out the window in order to make the game a bit more chalanging and it is quite hypocritical

additionally when will zombies learn to respect the laws of physics and be blocked from passing through closed doors and solid objects.

please take a hint from left4 dead and require zombies to actually BREAK DOWN doors in order to get to survivors inside a building. this teleporting thing is getting old and you have had more than enough time to fix it.

that's a videogame..how could we save how damage did you take from a zombie?

if we'd have extreme realism we'd die only cornered in a shak with a broken leg or grappled and kept on the ground and beaten and bitten to death.

to simulate an internal trauma from a scratch, or a severe scratch that should bleed you for a given amount of blood over time(imo)  we have bleeding status..

that's why we all learnt to run through buildings with two doors..deal with this like with pistol damage, like with starving in a couple of hours, like with a arms hit breaking your legs, like having a door/tree killing you, like jumping in the air on an atv, like spawning in the air, like coughing to death..i understand your rage and general feeling, but in dayz you can always have a worse day.

peace

OP - Please understand that what you are playing is a free mod of a 4-5 year old game.  With that comes many limitations.

The community developers of this free mod work hard in their precious spare time (FOR FREE) so that we can play it and have fun (for free).  Of course there's many aspects that can be improved and that is what they are constantly working towards, within the many limitations imposed on them by virtue of the fact that this is a mod tied to a base game which is a niche military simulator that was never intended to have zombies in it.

Hello all

To add to what Fraggle says, we are well aware of all the issues the mod has.

Use that search tool and see if something is known before posting as it will save you unnecessary grief.

@everyone else, although the OP has chosen an ancient issue to flag up he/she has at least thought out their argument a little, don't just shoot folk down rather guide them to the correct course of action and inform themm of where their logic fails.

Rgds

i am well aware that this is an old issue which is why i brought it up again after so many updates it is kinda frustrating that the major basic issues arent being fixed. to be honest though the teleporting zombies that walk through doors and walls are the bigger issue because it prevents the player from using cover and obstructing the path of a zombie. defensable locations loose all protection when zombies teleport behind you through a closed door. there is litterally no reason for this. i mean in ARMA the npc soldiers dont have these issues XD.

DONT GET HIT BY FRIGGING ZOMBIES! :P

Am hoping that the Standalone is hardcore so one hit from a zombie equals bleeding and a virus to boot :)

Dayz used to be a challenge, then the cry babies came and added tons of weapons, bases and all manner of ways to kill zombies and each other easily (and yet they still cry "mommy its too hard") :p

ps - these people have destroyed every game i have ever loved,  Warcraft used to be a challenge then they came and now its press 1 button to win mode. Same goes with many games.

Pls Rocket dont listen to these people :)

(sorry if i offended anyone, but am passionate about Dayz, its the 1st game in ages that dared to be a challenge, and to tell the namby pamby cry babies to fuck off)

You are right with the bleeding part because blunt attacks won't make you bleed to death and to cause internal bleeding you need some serious beating. A bit of bleeding could happen from scratches and bite wounds though.

Thanks to their blood system they fucked up the whole hitpoints and damage system anyways so we have to wait for the SA to see if they did a better job splitting between health, blood and hitpoints.

If they reduced the damage any further they'd need to give zombies hatchets and machetes to pose any threat at all...

That's because the AI soldiers in ArmA are doing what they're supposed to be doing, not behaving like zombies.

They can't fix the AI simply because you can't add custom AI to Arma 2. The current zombies are literally re-skinned soldiers that use a mission file to try and make them run towards you. Unfortunately, you can only do so much with a mission file.

still the teleporting zombies that can appear anywhere and maul you without obeying the laws of physics are why most people get hit.

Can you please understand that as Fraggle said, this is a free mod made for free by people like you and me.

And for a 4 year old game, that didn't support most of the required stuff for the mod so Rocket's ingenuity had to make up for that.

The zombie AI was built almost entirely from the ground up by Rocket on his own. The telepoting happens because of the zombie pathfinding whcih works in a way where the zombies will merely reuse your movement directions or use the quickest way to get to you (in some cases it is through walls). This game/mod is in development and the issues on pathfinding and clipping through walls have been adressed and are being worked on an will be ready for standalone.

As for the bleeding issues you mentioned, I agree, it does take a few too little hits to cause bleeding damage to a player. But this is being worked on. Of course people will still play the mod but it really doesn't make too much sense for a great game making company to make many of it's people work on a mod whereas they could be working on an actually full game which will create revenue for the company.
