Great alternative to the action menu

Recommended Posts

Rocket: It's a great idea, I like it. There are many things needed to change the action menu and ease these problems - this combined with other improvements will do a great deal to make the game less annoying and glitchy. Solutions like this do require alot of asset changes tho [source]

I really hope they consider this, action menu in ArmA/DayZ is terrible. I expect they could do something similar for ladders too.

I do like the way that the icon pops up in front of you when you glance at objects. It's unique and very usable, and makes actions really quick.

Still compared to say BF3, it is very outdated. I think we just need a button to interact, ie keep G for gear but have E for interact, say to get in a car or out with ease and without having to scroll.

Great video by the way, yet another enlightenment from you. :)

It can't be E, R, G, or F; thus, it can't really be put on a convenient button. It's already on SPACE and MDLE CLICK so...

I unbound Space. I always mid-click on the action menu so I don't shoot.  :D

Space is used for interaction.

Anyways, this is beyond awesome.

I use both. I also use MS BTN #10 (a thumb button on my mouse) to "use action 17" so I can switch weapons while moving.

it can't really be put on a convenient button.

Also upon further revision it came to me that perhaps if a button was rebound it could become more convenient than any of the buttons listed.

Anything that is faster then the current system would be nice.  I think I have been killing while trying to select action with the action menu more times then anything.

Okay, I just woke up so I might be missing something incredibly obvious here... But what does this offer that just pressing space to open doors and stuff doesn't do?

Can't I already do this but press enter instead? (I've never mouse wheeled for doors....ever)

It removes the need for the action menu completely and frees up the mousewheel for other uses (like incremental door opening etc) No idea why an action menu still even exists in the SA for doors/ladders etc tbh.

Also allows you to choose which seat/position you want in a car without the need for a menu too.

Incremental door opening would be great building infiltration style combat as the door is slowly peeled open revealing small parts of the room at a time.

Well incremental door opening and being able to choose seats sounds cool but what about when there are multiple actions available to interact with a single object? e.g. a dead body (study body/hide body etc.)

Why not scroll wheel then?

A context sensitive approach would make the most sense, do you have a shovel equipped? There may be some cases where a menu is needed but it's definitely not for doors/ladders.

More shortcuts, less scrolling. I wonder why they must have double of triple ways to perform an action. I already have a switch weapon/handgun/grenade button so i don't really need it in the scroll menu, i would only need those to access a crate, open doors or enter a vehicle, there is already a shortcut for exiting vehicles, i am almost always one of the first to exit a vehicle in case of emergencies because everyone else scrolls. Pretty stupid imo that they keep this over 10 years, they could also have made a intelligent action menu that puts the action on top that is closest to do, i.e. only show "enter vehicle" when you are facing a vehicle door and ignore the crate that is to your side so you would have to face it if you want t access it then it would ignore the vehicle door. I don't need to be flooded with 10 action choices when i have 10 items surrounding me, i would want the one i am facing to be the only choice.
