Will the real bandit please stand up

Recommended Posts

Its a shame to see how bandits are only percieved as just KoS'ers these days. I remember I became a bandit because OF other "bandits". In the begining of my reign as a bandit I would stalk my prey for miles, make sure they are alone, and catch the jump on them and many would comply. I would strip them down to nothing but thier clothes and beans and run away with my new loot.

I would lay traps around the popular routes people would take like a burning campfire in the middle of a field. Someone would walk past it and I would give them a knock out shot. While talking to them and giving them a banadge I would tell them to keep calm and don't do anything funny. (Normally I would have back-up for "Just in case purposes") Killing should be a last resort type of because if we might as well just take away the title bandit and replace it with Jackass.

Of course there are some people that are just always going to DM like minges but it shouldn't be the case for everyone. When it comes to Vanilla day z i suppose insentive to NOT just run around and DM people is pretty low...I can somewhat understand because there isn't that much to do yet. There are other mods to where you can build bases and other things that somewhat help the situation. Holding people hostage, somewhat less than lethal action, Night raiding bases, is what a bandit should be like.

At least in my opinon.

I happen to think this heyday of gentleman banditry only really ever existed in staged YT vids and peoples imaginations.  Sure, there were rare cases of it and there still are today but it's always been a rare thing, not the norm.

At least when my friend and I play together we do. More so with the night base raids. TBH i think people hate losing their gear more than they do dying. Thats why I do it. Made a whole private hive shut down because of the night raids...

Im not trying to lift up my pinky while sipping hot tea in china, its just people nowadays don't go that extra mile...

The problem is, it's a lot more effective and a lot less problematic to (instead of stalk someone "for miles") simply wait in the woods near major towns for a single person to come near a fake camp (or similar trap) and shoot them, then take all of their things. Effectively you accomplish the same task (you have their items and they don't) with the added benefit that they can't shoot back, and you have all the time you need to sort out your inventory (in case they have something valuable you want that requires inventory configuring). There's another added benefit for the victim, as well: Instead of leaving them thirsty, hungry, and low on blood, you've at least reset them to "Fully healed" after taking all of their things. Thusly, shooting someone and looting the body is not only better for yourself, but makes you a better person than "Knockout shots" and robbing someone who is alive.

---Just playing Devil's Advocate, don't get pissy because I can see merit in shooting people. >.>

I shall offer my rebuttal with this anecdote:

When I was five I was at at my uncles house for some birthday party.  I had a little plastic bowling ball set because that was the first game I ever played. That day I also met a boy around my age which I was introduced with by my aunt. I invited him to come bowling with me and showed him how to play the game. With the mind set of him using the bowling ball to knock down the pins he came up with an easy idea to win the game.

He ran to the pins with the ball in his hands and knocked down the pins with the ball in his hand....

Granted he kind of...got the point...but completely missed the fundamentals.

His name was Greggory and every time I see a fellow bandit just run up and knock those pins down I just shake my head and ask my mommy why are people different.

Well, according to the 1.7.7 player journal, I can only get to bandit level III by killing as many people as possible. Robbing them? That's what heroes do.

If running up to the pins and hitting them with the ball in your hands is easier and more rewarding and nothing is stopping you from doing it, why not do it? I have asked many people and most have agreed that if they are being robbed they would rather die than let the person successfully take their gear. It's a lot of effort and less reward( the person is still alive and can figure out a way to kill you).

I like your anecdote; it was cute, and remind me of my own childhood experiences.

That is where, however, two trains of thought diverge, and I choose the road better taken: Practicality over Ideology. I prefer to keep things simple, straightforward, and easy. I have to be really, really bored to "Rob" someone; the fight-or-flight reflexes in my brain make me shoot him/her or anyone within like 15 feet of me.

If I was beung robbed (I never was) Id take my chances to maybe run away or at least make the dude waste some ammo catching me, or better, if I had a gun, I wouldnt give it away but give it a try and shoot the dude. Robbing is utopia as you gain no reward for that (at least I cant see any)

Your a good bandit, I don't mind to many bandits like you who play more survival/apocalyptic like rather than killing on sight. GG

Oh look. it's this thread again. <_<

You mean another bandit elitist? I admit, the thread title had me thinking it was just another anti-bandit elitist.

My sentiments. Additionally Look as what game-mechanics decisions have been made since those "good days" the first few posters spoke of. We now have extremely OP infection, Instant knock out zombie hits (occasionally), no weapons at ALL on spawn, etc. I do appreciate a challenge but the simple fact is that the more it "sucks" to start fresh the more people are going to play in a way meant to purely increase their chance of survival.

Simply put if its a pin to get off the coast im going to minimize my risk  of going back there by killing you, taking your junk, and AVOIDING risks.

Luckily in SA there wont be too much mindless killing, as gear will break. So, only KoS will be of pure doucheness, or getting scared by sudden player appearance.

I am a bandit but I still try to rob people if I can, too me it is just different and more entertaining. One time I made an unarmed drop his beans and jump into the Elektro harbour at gunpoint, it was the most rewarding experience ever to watch him swim away helplessly.
