DayZ has overtaken ArmA

Recommended Posts

Well, I've had a troubling time with DayZ lately and it's giving me a lot of bugs and unusual shit, so id decided to play some good old ArmA. All I wanted was a good server on Veteran difficulty, that wasn't coop, didn't require any special mods, and didn't have grass disabled. A year and a half ago, no problem. But now, I had trouble finding anything but DayZ and Wasteland. Some of the few fellow ArmA players out there may relate, but most of you don't know what it's like having one of your favorite games overtaken by another of your favorite games that you don't want to play. at the moment. I'm not too fond of wasteland, mostly because it's just a few team players up against 30-40 independent douchebags who shoot everything(we agree that they're mostly the dayz crowd who were directed to the game). So, I can't find but a handful of ArmA servers, and most of them are dead. My dreams of joining Shacktac are long, long dead, and I'm not a member of any active ArmA community. I've played around on editor enough to where it isn't really entertaining anymore, and all I really want is the realism and fun that is ArmA. So, to be fair, I think DayZ has become very annoying for people who want to play ArmA. So, I believe the Standalone will bring happiness to more than one gaming community. Oh, and no ArmA 3 DayZ. When I play A3, I don't want 100 DayZ server to 1 ArmA server ratio. Frankly, it's annoying as hell.

I know what you mean. I can't find a single good Arma 2 server anymore. They're all either Co-op or DayZ servers :(

Tbh I didn't know about Arma 2 until DayZ came out.  When I first found out about it, I downloaded the free version of Arma 2 back in June and joined a realism server.  It was a ton of fun and kept me entertained or a while.  I had wanted a realistic military simulator game for a while and was thrilled to of found one. Even when I finally bought CO in late July last year and started playing DayZ, I still continued to play on the realism server.  After a few months the server shut down sadly.

Luckily I found a new realism server several months ago and it's still running strong but it's a OA server and not a regular Arma 2 server.  If you want to check out the server, it's called =7Cav=

I usually play on there once or twice a week.  It's run really well and usually there is a lot of teamwork.

Have you tried looking for any Domination games? There's usually a good handful of them on the go whenever I wanna play ArmaII vanilla.

Yeah, I feel like ARMA is pretty much limited to Domination, Wasteland, and DayZ.  I've had quite a bit of fun playing Domination...

Have you tried ACE? It really enhances the game. ACE Domination and ACE Insurgency makes it more fun.

I second this. These mods are probably the most realistic military experience you can have on Arma. Also, if you use Play With Six and not the crappy Arma server filter there are a lot of different game modes for OA, such as Domination, Insurgency, Takistan Life, Island life, and Wasteland.

Good to see someone actually take a break from the mod and play the game they bought for it :) It's much like getting half Life 2 for Garry's Mod and never playing Half Life 2, you're ignoring a very good game(depends on what you like).

I want to play against people, not AI. Nothing is quite as fun as a hundred person ACE server on veteran difficulty with people who don't goof off but still have fun.

Pretty much this, used to be TONs of good servers, now its just Wasteland, DayZ, and lots of CooP.

If you're fine with Coop and want a realism definitely can't go wrong with 7Cav. 173rd is nice aswell, not as realistic but they allow sound mods.

Actually SA will outperform ArmA 3 regarding sales, just watch and see.

ArmA 3 is a niche game in a very niche community. The good thing is, the noobs, dumbasses, and DayZ trolls(not saying all DayZ players are bad), will leave for Standalone. Downside, is I'll have to play with them when I fancy some DayZ...

I don't really care for the rest of ArmA, other than singleplayer. I haven't even got a mic and I wont be joining any ArmA 2 communities. Going online would be a disaster and not that kind of disaster I would enjoy.

I share your feelings Cap'n but there never was much public PvP activity in A2. I really enjoyed A2 Project Reality but it pretty much died when DayZ came in. It's a shame because it was the best public PvP game mode/mod in A2 because there people really seemed to co-operate.

Now I just wait that something happens in A3. Probably nothing epic will happen before 2014.

Well i am one of the many who got into Arma directly via DayZ.

One thing i have noticed is we are definitely viewed as being the destroyer of Arma from a lot of the Arma vets.  Have you ever tried asking a questions about DayZ in the Bi forums?  Woah Nellie!  Expect to be flamed, grilled and tossed to ravenous dogs.

Me - i look at DayZ players as being the good looking bloke who waltzes into the party late and scores the best looking girl that all the others (Arma vets) have been trying pick up all night.

However i do share your concern.  I have come to love Arma 2 and Arma 3 and sometimes finding a relevant server is a pain. You may be right. Once the SA drops i don't think a lot of players will bother with Arma again. Which is a shame in a way because it is an awesome series.

I doubt that all the diehard ArmA fans and potential newcomers are going to drop everything for Standalone. ArmA 3 will still have an audience, probably the same audience as vanilla ArmA 2 had when it was first released.
