US333Nate 12 Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) What the F#@k is wrong with the DayZ players today? I remember when I first started playing DayZ, at least a year ago. You remember when somebody would say "Anybody in Cherno?" and you could watch side chat, 5 minutes later, they would team up with somebody else who was marooned in Cherno by themselves and then they would head north and play some mother flippin' dayz. These days however, "Anybody in Cherno?" is usually followed by a death message.I understand that over time, players have developed the "don't trust anybody mentality", because of bandits and player killers. That i understand, but its the absolute cowardice and shameful behavior of today's players that is ruining the game. I recently rented a server, its still very low pop, I wont use this as an opportunity to do a plug, because I'm sure whomever shows up will be a real piece of crap and ruin my experience. I was playing today, just now, when i was inspired to create this rant. I broke my leg and was killed by zombies. I re spawned. No gear, just a "vest pouch" a can of beans and a bandage. There were only two other players on the server. I went on to looting. I found an M16, one mag, some food and even a big ass 12 slot backpack. I was owning it. I'm running down the east coast, in the tree line, and a player runs out in front of me, small world!?. it scared me! I myself have been corrupted, i popped off a few rounds. He evaded me in the pine trees. i followed in the direction he was headed for a little bit with no real hostile intentions, I immediately regretted shooting at him. I saw a zombie, shot it. he may have heard it. i figured i had lost him and I'm pretty sure he was a new spawn because i don't think i saw a gun. I decided to leave him alone. Then i caught a glimpse of him in the distance. What the heck?, I'll follow him and see what he does. I followed him into Solinichy, or whatever its called. Keeping my distance. I had to shoot another zombie, I'm sure he heard me shoot. Then i saw him again, he ran to the end of a dock and logged out. His buddy who was on also, then began trying to distract me telling me there was a chopper somewhere or whatever.. I didn't respond, I knew what he was trying to do. A minute later, the other one logged out too. These guys would play on this server for hours at a time. Nobody bothered them because there rarely was anybody on. Fixing vehicles, crashing them. Fixing a helo, crashing it, they were persistent little turds. But, because of that little interaction, they haven't been back. I laugh, because if they can't handle that, then what are they gonna do on another server with lots of players? ridiculous. Some 12 year old kid shoots at you, and misses, and then loses site of you, they are sure to be gone 30 seconds after for fear of a counter attack. So if somebody shoots at you, you d@mn well better kill them in less than 30 seconds. What if they hit you? and your about to die? They don't even have the guts to stay and finish the job most of the time. So your stuck with a broken leg 2000m from any potential source of morphine. and not a decent person in site to put you out of your misery. The human interaction aspect of the game is garbage now, because your not interacting with humans anymore. Your dealing with some young, dumb 12 year old, that doesn't know jack squat about being a man and doing the right thing or some DayZ veteran that has been torn, by the behavior of the average DayZ scumbags, that run rampant today. I don't usually mess with people on my server, unless they are trash talking or being complete dbags. I try to be nice and help people. If somebody needs a ride. i give it to them. I don't care if i notice that they are holding a DMR as they approach the car. i get killed a lot by the players on the server. I'm ok with that, I understand that if your getting shot at by everyone and lied to and tricked by bandits and trolls and abusive admin, when you come to a server without that, you still act the same way. i get it. but its just a game? Wouldn't you have more fun playing it with others the way it is supposed to be played? If you get scared and log out, then your playing it all wrong. Its not real life. Its a simulation. Act the way a decent human being would act in that situation. Of course i realize that most people today aren't decent human beings but... hey, what can ya do? What I'm trying to say is this, Play the game the way it was meant to be played. Screw all the stupid youtube videos with "hero bandits". its a shame that this is what it has come to. the whole point of the game is to survive as long as you can, to realize who you would be in a situation like that. "whats your story?". That's the caption for the game,"whats your story?", not "how much of a scum bag are you?". Those guys that make the videos don't last very long in game. i know that player versus player is an important aspect of the game, but its not the only one. I blame most of the admins for this. If the server doesn't have 10,000,000 vehicles or some bogus script mods to make it easier, they wont play, because its too hard. WELL SCREW THEM! Don't accommodate those little pricks. They are the reason that the game is the way it is now. Keep your severs vanilla. If your players don't like that then they should go play WOW or pokemon or whatever little girls play nowadays. if they cant spawn in with a gun and find a vehicle within the first 10 minutes to go to the NWAF and find a helo, they dont wanna play it, because they'll get shot and have to start over boo hoo:.( because its too hard that way. What do you think they would do if they had a helo with m240s on it. THEY WOULD PLAYER KILL! Do you see what i mean? That's everybody's goal now is to get geared up and kill players because that's what they've been taught, by guys like "Frankie"( i love to watch Frankie"s vids because of how he interacts with people, but these kids just see him killing other players and think that is how is supposed to be done, they wanna be "beast" like Frankie.). but if you do the same to them, they dont like it. I play on my server all the time, i don't cheat and spawn crazy stuff for me, because its not fun that way. I rented a server because i like to play DAYZ. I don't like to play on other servers where they are overrun with admin buddies and the cooperative aspect has been destroyed. Its frustrating to play now... maybe I'm not explaining it well enough. I am afraid of what is going to happen with this game. I love this game. I love Zombies, I love the human nature aspect of this game. But dear God, this cant be it. This cant be the way that people are. It didn't use to be like this. I pray everyday that the zombie apocalypse happens, but recently, my lack of faith in humanity, has changed my mind. If it did happen for real, we would all probably just get trolled for our beans by some 12 year old with a .50cal.. I wouldn't be surprised if the SA is a flop. I know everyone will get it when it comes out, but they will quickly realize that ultimately it is the same as the DayZ mod. A bunch of 12 year olds, without the testicular fortitude to behave like decent self respecting human beings. and they will ruin the SA just like they have the mod. Maybe I'm taking it too seriously? I don't know. Don't get me wrong though, I love to mess with people. One of my favorite things to do now (unfortunately) is to shoot "at" a player. Don't hit him, just shoot at him. Watch what he does. Shoot at them and then press the "P" key. You will not be surprised. if they don't log out, you will hear them whimper on side chat. That's pretty much what will happen. But every once in a while, they'll man up, and stay in, and stay alive. A glimmer of hope? I don't do this to all the players on my server, but every once in a while, I'll mess with a "regular". They may log out and never return. Or we will have a nice laugh about it and call a truce and play the game together, like its supposed to be played. I don't care either way. I'd rather have no players on my server then 50 Dbags. If there were no players on my server that would be the only way to get a real simulation of a zombie apocalypse, because there wouldn't be anybody. Just me. With my morals intact. Maybe I'm too opinionated? Yes i am. It is my strong opinion that the apocalypse will be a lonely place because very few people would have what it takes to survive, and if you were to meet somebody, you would have to kill them, because our society is rotten to the core. Back stabbing Cowards. I'm not totally sure of what this rant was supposed to be about, i just needed to get if off my chest. Because I care about this game, and i care about the future of this game. I've been playing video games since Atari, Yes, I'm old. I'm 26. I've seen everything. I've watched this younger generation grow up, right behind me, in a totally different world. I remember the toys i had when i was a kid in comparison to what kids grow up with nowadays... Lets just say when i was a kid, my buddies would have beat me up if i was being brought up like the generation after us. I remember if my dad caught me wearing "pads" or a helmet to ride my bike or skateboard, he would have laughed at me, my mom too. They wanted us to grow up tough. they wanted us to fall and get hurt. And we did. I've probably had more injuries in my first 12 years, than today's pansy ass 23 year olds in total. It was literally that quick of a change. I'm so glad that i was born when i was and not 3 years later. I did 4 years in the United States Marine Corps, EERRRRAAAHHH! I know a thing or two about "human nature" in a stressful environment. And the weak morals of today's society could never hack it in a situation like this, because you can't combat log in real life. Instead, you would die because your a coward and you would be petrified when the bullets start flying. I'm terribly sorry if you hated reading this, I'm sure you probably did, because statistically your just another DayZ Dbag. However, In the rare case you are not, and your moral fiber is mature enough for a game like this, PLEASE!!!,please, don't let them ruin you. don't let them destroy this game, just like they did the little plastic green and tan army men i had when i was a kid, i cant find them anymore, and if i do, they are crappy, made in china garbage that wouldnt be worth the "blackcat" that i would tape to them and send them to hell on, those tan scumbags!.. Whenever there is something good, it always gets ruined by these very people. And everybody else that gives a d@mn, doesn't have it in them to fight for it anymore. Just like this country is going down the toilet. I know somebody out there feels the same way as i do. there has to be!. there just has to be some decent people out there than can appreciate this game as i do.... i cant be the only one... ..."Anybody in Cherno?" Statik (DayZ) 2695 Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) I've read posts like this too many times. It seems like all you're just hating on the bandit playstyle. I've been playing DayZ for over a year. When I first started, I started with a bandit mentality. If you crossed me, I shot you. I tried the medic scene, but it didn't work out, and I still carry that bandit mentality today. I like to think of it in the way that the people of this community paid for Arma 2, meaning they can play it however they please. If they're not hacking, exploiting, etc, etc, it is 100% within their rights to do as they please. If they want to shoot fresh spawns, so be it. Do I agree with it? No. But it's apart of the game. I enjoy DayZ the way it is today. I wouldn't enjoy it if everyone was just one big happy family running around the map. Don't take this the wrong way, but frankly, I feel you're half bitching and moaning about KoS, and half bitching an moaning about "12 year old", combat logging, and/or sidechat. If you don't like combat logging, find a good server/community. If you don't like sidechat, find a server with sidechat disabled. And since you clearly dislike 12 year old who lack "testicle fortitude" find a whitelisted server that has an age limit. I also don't understand your bitching vanilla, and how if you play something non-vanilla you should go be a little girl and play Pokemon and WoW. That is utter bullshit. Just because a server isn't vanilla, that doesn't mean it's "10,000,000 vehicles", etc, etc. Without mods like Namalsk, 2017, DayZero, etc, I would have been bored of DayZ a while ago. People are playing these mods because they are trying to keep that spark, trying to keep their interest peeked. I'm sure I've missed plenty, but it just seems your post is just you making the DayZ community look like one big fuckup. You're making it sound like whomever doesn't play 100% vanilla is a 12 year old KOSing, combat logger. People have differnent playstyles, opinions, and beliefs. The sooner you except they aren't going to be mirror images of yours, the better off you will be here. Edited August 3, 2013 by Statik
colekern 1364 Posted August 3, 2013 Quite frankly, these threads are a dime a dozen nowadays. Pretty much everyone here cares about DayZs future as much as you do, but there's really not much we can do for now.
US333Nate 12 Posted August 3, 2013 its cool, this is my first time posting on this thread, i just needed to rant. after i posted i've been reading other stuff on here. i've realized that this wasn't the right place for it. because there are people bragging about doing the things i was looking down upon. whatever.. its a d@mn shame.

US333Nate 12 Posted August 3, 2013 the vanilla thing... thats not what i meant. my server as extra buildings and stuff. i agree with you about keeping it fresh, but its not working. i player kill, i shoot on site most of the time. i just think the game would be better if people played it like they would, if it were real. it is after all a simulation. no it shouldnt be one big happy family, thats not how it would be in real life. thats not what i was saying... idk. if your a bandit thats cool too. it is a valid playing style. but isnt everybody a bandit? essentially. its easyier to be a BA in a virtual world... lol, idk, just ranting. i do realize now that there are 100000 post just like this. sorry lol

khaenz 93 Posted August 3, 2013 I read through it, and I have to agree with you on the ridiculous players. So many people combat log, even my damn new group (Although I convinced them to not be the damn pussies they are and to man up). I've noticed that KoS players have decreased, I actually went through Cherno and met 5 friendlies (We did have a bit of a shooting, but that was because we bumped into each other but then talked and traded/bloodbagged). I guess it's because of the new infection system, desperate people are usually the ones who are forced to kill, 12 year old assbags still exist but in smaller amounts, and the rest are just normal DayZ players following the three playstyles.

GlitchyV2 17 Posted August 4, 2013 Ahem, i'll just post my opinion here... I don't hate on the bandit gameplay style, but i must say it is pretty annoying when you get killed and killed over and over again... So i'm just going to say; GO TO www.dayzrp.com, thats where you find some good gameplay if you want the teamwork stuff, read more on the site ;D Unfortunately i can't play there because i got blacklisted for not meeting the age requirement ;(

Coming from a zero combat logged, two total kills (I only shoot after fired upon), over one year veteran of DayZ... what are you even saying? "I hate KoS." "Well, I mostly KoS." "I shot at the guy and he ran away, so I followed him shooting periodically." Are you freaking serious? What the F#@k is wrong with the DayZ players today? You. I especially like the "I recently rented a server but I won't plug it." Says US333Nate. Laughable. Go crawl back into your hole. -------------------------------------- All that said, here's my sage advice: You have to quit letting the way other play ruin your game experience. I tried the private hive route, I experienced more hackers than public hives. I tried white listed servers in hopes of less KoS... I was disappointed. I haven't played any other "mods" of DayZ, 99% of my playtime has been public hive servers. Don't give the people you apparently can't stand the power to "ruin your game". In the end, it's a game. The fun in this game (for me) is really spawning (getting basically a full load-out of survival gear: waterbottle, hatchet, matches, and a tin can) and getting that first decent military weapon and some ammo for it. I usually get somewhat bored around the same time and start wandering the hot spots in the north. I had an encounter at Stary a couple of days ago, a guy in a guillie suit fired at or near me. He didn't hit me and I could have lit him up, so I assume he was either firing warning shots or shooting at the zeds I had aggroed. I didn't stay to find out, I hightailed it keeping plenty of brush between he and I. I live for the runup to what I consider "end game". At that point nine times out of ten I will be PK'd in the North at a hotspot or I will venture down to the coast hoping to help newbs (and usually ending up PK'd there as well). Some people really seem to enjoy that part of the game, so I'm just part of the life cycle. I am OK with that. It really makes the encounters where you find a fully armed guy who doesn't shoot you when you walk in the door that much more interesting and thought provoking. That doesn't mean I'm not attached to my "character" or my gear, my heart seriously races whenever I see another survivor, even if they are hundreds of yards (meters) away. I have NEVER played a game like that. And especially not one that does it over a year after I started playing it with countless "life-cycles" between then and now. I still get upset when someone shoots me with no warning. I think most of the time it could have been a good encounter for both of us (I always carry blood bag, morphine, and plenty of food/drink for anyone I would run across) if they wouldn't have pulled the trigger, but it's not the end of the world. Just because I like the spawn, loot-up, get "bored", and repeat (and lone wolf) type of play doesn't mean that's the ONLY way to play. You have to accept that or you'll post long non-sensical threads on an internet forum contradicting yourself. Edited August 6, 2013 by Soupee

rl1029 1 Posted August 9, 2013 What part of this: Would lead me to believe you don't mind KoS? He's not complaining about KoS, he's talking about the general mindset of the players today. People just don't seem to be interested in cooperating and playing together anymore. It seems they are just lurking around, looking for easy kills. Personally, when I'm playing alone and see people advertising where they are at in side chat, if I'm nearby I'll go see if I can find them. I don't shoot at them or anything, I just try to stay out of sight and observe. Then, if I see them get into trouble, I'll try to help them. Sometimes I get killed, sometimes I'm successful. Either way, that's how I think I'd act in a real-world zombie apocalypse, so that's how I enjoy playing the game. Bottom line: I agree with the OP!

SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted August 15, 2013 Look I've been playing this game since early 2012. Even in the beginning I was killed a lot by other players. Sometimes, I'd be killed with no warning at all. Other times, I'd be shot in a small time encounter on the coast, saying "friendly friendly!" ect. The mentality of player has not actually changed all that much. The difference you are experiencing is not in some kind of fundamental change in human nature on the whole, but rather the difference between a small community and a vast one. When the game was first released, and the community was relatively small and hardcore, yeah, people played a little differently. They played inside the confines of the game because at that point it hadn't established a gameplay precedent. People played it like a zombie survival game because that's what they had in their head going in. However, as the community grew and the game attracted more and more people, play styles varied, and human nature showed its true face. The fact of the matter is that not everyone wants to play the game in a particular way. What makes DayZ so great is that it gives you flexibility and choice. Everything you do is up to you. So when you are on a hillside, aiming down at a guy 500 m away through a scope - that's when you really see what you're made of. And the thing is, players are not always consistent. Some days I just feel evil, so I do that bandit life. Some days, I feel really altruistic, so I'll go around trading, doing fetch quests for other players, killing bandits, or whatever. It's pretty much the only reason the game doesn't get completely boring. Besides, bandits make the game really fun for do-gooders. There's nothing quite as exciting as seeking personal vengeance, or tracking a notorious bandit. Man is the most dangerous game, after all.
