Your bad DayZ habits

Recommended Posts

I'm just curious if anyone else here has some unpleasant tendencies. I can't help but go through the backpack of anyone and everyone I meet. One time, I stole six MRE's out of a partners pack. Nice guy, I'd like to apologise. Another time, one of the first people I met held me up in Dolina. While he was going through my pack, I went through his pack, pulled out an AKM and unloaded into his face. Serves him right for taking my road flares.

Pro launching is by far my worst habit, its up there with trying to grind all the railroad bridge rails with my helicopter.

Bad habits?

Dropping my rifle/ammo and wandering away to do chores. The story usually goes like this.. Backpack is full, inventory is almost full, and I need to gather wood to boil water or something. So I drop rifle/ammo on the ground (free 3-4 main inv slots this way), equip hatchet to kill any zombie that'll bother me, and go on to do whatever. Thing is, many times I've end up losing said rifle/ammo just because after doing all the stuff I had to do, I couldn't find it. Last week lost  a dmr with 3 mags this way in the woods.

Also trusting players pretending to be friendly and then shooting me in the back after a couple of minutes.

I originally had my Voice Com. bound to the "~" key.  Worked great, had no issues.

Then went to play wasteland, realized I can't use "~" for Voice in Wasteland for whatever reason so I changed it to "tab".

When I went back to playing DayZ, I forgot that changes you make in wasteland carry over to DayZ.

Every time I alt+tab'd in order to move around the map on my dual monitor,I was inadvertently and unknowingly spamming direct chat.

A couple days later I was playing with a friend and they mentioned it to me...

9 months later I still haven't bothered to change it.

It keeps me from "map cheating" anymore though... so at least there's that.

If I find a tent, I make a note of the position, loot it first of any good items, then come back later with a friends 'old bike' and flatten it. Just so they can't use their tent/items any more.

If I see a person who may be a threat to me (in my proximity but may not have spotted me) I either shoot to kill to save myself dying, or break their legs and run on to continue my loot rout. Checking for a corpse on my way back.

If I get infected I just commit suicide rather than try to fight it for as long as I can, I often run back to my corpse before anyone finds it or give my items to a friend to look after.

Not ONCE have I ever found a tent with decent loot in it. I've found them everywhere, near NWAF, Krastonov, Elektro, and the entire Western strip going from Balota to Skalka. Also, I have an OCD problem. Unless its ammo or anti's, I can't have more than one of anything. Food, water, trash and road flares. If there be more than one, it bothers me a lot. So I eat the second and find a different item.

Cured myself of my most unfortunate bad habit.

I check the player list from time to time.  I often drive around in vehicles with "turbo" held down.

Combining the two proved to be really inconvenient, as that meant a key combo of SHIFT (turbo) and P (player list), which was also ADMIN CONSOLE ... which in turn was also a Battleye #228 restriction and a swift kick to the server browser.

Lost a couple of choice rides brimming with loot to that faux pas before I figured out the error of my ways.

Listening to music. I've switched from dubstep-y stuff to more atmospheric music so I can at least hear some of the sounds around me.

First two minutes of

Dayz could use some good ambient music.

I thought turbo was Q...WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

Turbo, as with any control, is whatever key you bind it to.  What does what mean?  Turbo?

Rushing to loot people that I kill has gotten me in a trouble a lot. I don't know how many times I went to loot someone just to get killed by someone else seconds later.

Oddly enough, I've never actually been killed looting a corpse before. Not sure if I have a second nature about it or not, but I've never really noticed any difference in playstyle.

Whenever I see someone with a gun I really get a huge urge to shoot him. But I play as mostly a hero. It's painful.

Not paying attention to my environment. Was going to NEAF and wasn't paying attention to anything but the direction of my destination and some sniper from 100m away lit me up because I had failed to keep everything in view.
