What happened to the dayz mod ?

Recommended Posts

Loot in Origins is plenty, farming is easy, only thing that makes zombies any scarier is the glowing eyes in the dark which eventually you learn to ignore, and yes there are a million vehicles, I can't go in a town without seeing some sort of vehicle in it.

Well, seeing as how hlaf of the post I see you have made are you disagreeing with people, I doubt me saying anything will matter to you at all. But, oh well.

Loot in Origins is much harder to find than in Vannila, there is more of a variety in the guns you get, but ammo and HIGH grade weapons are much harder to get without working for it. You speak of loot farming? HA! Shit playing like that is why DayZ is no fucking fun for anyone in the first place. I literally laugh at you right now for even mentioning farming. I disallow loot farming in my entire clan, mainly because I KNOW what it does to people.

"Hey, lets cycle loot!" -> "Hey, lets dupe items!" -> "DayZ isn't any fun anymore, I'm not gonna be an active member of the clan anymore"

I visit each building in a town, ONCE. You wanna call me out on being an immersion freak, or a goodie two shoes? Go for it. I'll enjoy the game MUCH longer than you ever will.

Zombies usually one hit bleed, they do more damage than vanilla zombies, and they take MUCH more damage. Zombies in vanilla were an annoyance during a firefight, zombies in Origins during a firefight are deadly. And plus they do look creepier.

There are, like I clearly mentioned before, more vehicles than in vanilla. However, they aren't overdone like in most Private Hives. Meaning you can still FIND something without everyone hoarding them, but not every two steps. Plus, parts for the cars themselves are rarer than in vanilla as-well.

Go ahead, contradict all you like. You keep on playing your DayZ, farming your loot, stocking up tents... yada yada. I'll play the way I like to, and enjoy what the DayZ community puts out.

I'm enjoying the game more than ever with this new version.

Instead of the usual SuperMarket -> Hospital -> Airfield and voilá! alrdy geared now lets kill some people!  Now it is really harder. I don't bother with hospitals anymore, supermarkerts are still worth the time but not 1/10 as before. So I find myself looking even in every deer stand, which I used to ignore before.

I'm also enjoying the infection, I don't quit when I get infected, I try to stay alive. Eating all I can, carrying 10+ pieces of meat and hunting down animals for more until I find some antibiotics (which I don't even expect, because they're really hard to find). I lasted 9 days infected with my last char.

Zombies are now much harder, at least on the server Im playing. Yesterday we (3 friends) entered the church at Putoshka followed by a few zombies. Shot at them... BIG MISTAKE... I alone killed 45 zombies, my friends more or less the same. Almost went out of ammo but it was FUN. And I'm not getting knocked down that much.

I only have 2 complains:

- Backpacks, Camping Tents, Bandages and Antibiotics should be a bit more common (Just a bit). In the last 2 weeks I just found one single Alice Pack, Bandages are to less common (or bleed too much common, and absurd sometimes. Like starting to bleed hard for a body falling over me. It may hurt, but you don't fucking bleed to die for that), let's not talk about antibiotics, and, in all that time, I didn't found yet not even one Camping Tent.

- THE FUCKING ZOMBIE ZIG-ZAG! This is what breaks the game for me. You can't aim for the head with those bugged animations. I think fixing that should be a priority. Even inside building they still move like having spasms with his head constantly teleporting 30 cm up/down left/right. Impossible to aim.

Yes the latest greatest ? version.

Every new spawn gets an infection within minutes of playing and there is no way to fix, hospitals not spawning anything... zombies knocking you to the ground, still not enough vehicles much less hi-end loot at AF, starting gear is pathetic, why hasn't wasteland been combined with dayz yet ? I could go on and on and fucking on.

Well i play on a vanilla server the starting gear is flares and a bandage, so far i have lasted 10 days without getting infected with no high end gear just basics an axe and maybe a winchester if i'm lucky, food and drink are a plenty most zeds have them to loot if you kill them.

This update has made me play more cautious and made the zombies a real threat(which is the way it is supposed to be).Avoidance is the key keep a low quiet profile if spotted run like hell to nearest barn or woods they can be avoided or team up with friends or someone else, i play alone but if you play with others then zeds should be handled easily. loot spawns not just in hospitals even non enterable buildings and rubble piles now have loot, found 2 lots of antibiotics this way you just have to search and be careful when you do it.

Dont see what the problem is.

Sorry no. I don't farm loot, I play vanilla, I don't dupe, and I don't even have tents. Only reason I re-visit a building in a town is because the loot wasnt spawned in it the first time I went around. I mentioned farming because thats what all the clans in Origins do, you could simply go to the Novy Vybor military spawns and load all the AKs,M4s, and DMRs there.  I don't know about the new version of Origins, but when I played it I found a gun in pretty much any building I went into. I know for a fact parts in Origins are much more common than in vanilla, it has been stated in the new patch notes that they are rare, and I have seen myself it is lucky as fuck to even find a wheel. In origins I could fix up a car in 10 mins. If you're saying you have a hard time finding loot in Origins that's all you.. a simple run through Mitrovice provided me with everything I needed. I've been enjoying this game for a long time now, and I still do.

P.S Dunno why you're getting so mad over a simple post I made that I didn't even look twice at. My text was confusing, it did sound like I said I farm, and sorry for that. Reason I like Vanilla is because it's less of a giant pvp fest because theres not some sort of machine gun in everybuilding as there is in these popular mods such as Overwatch, Breaking Point, and Origins.

The lack of progress in general, its all well increasing the zombie threat and taking away focus on PVP, but think about why PVP became such large scale in the first place-

Removal of the bandit skin triggered it but the bigger issue was that there really wasn't anything else to do other than shoot people, nothing has changed in this regard and thats why I mentioned WL and base building btw.

I lasted 164 days on the old public hives, before we had servers, it was a totally different ball game back then, now I see guys join my server and not last 10 minutes, the balance is off I think.

High hopes for SA :)

To be honest i don't care about P v P never done it, P v P is not important when i play so i know nothing about that side of the game it does not interest me one bit other non interesting stuff for me is base building something i wont do.

as for the SA the zombies will be even stronger and more of a threat in that, than in the mod we play now. im looking forward to the standalone for the upped difficulty.

Well, it's not supposed to be easy. It's a SURVIVAL game, you should struggle to survive. You shouldn't just find all items instantly. That's what makes it interesting, and makes stealth useful to not get infected. Too many players thesedays underrate crouch-walk or crawling methods.

I think "just surviving" is not enough for a lot of people, but that aspect of the game was what attracted me to it and I still love the idea, there's nothing else like it.

I don't honestly think we'll see ANY of the mods managing to turn what they have now into a true survival experience which many of us want to see.  Because DayZ is a mod of Arma 2 it will always be stuck with the fact that it's primarily a mil-sim.  Every time they try to change one simple thing it opens up a can of worms for them in terms of bugs., it's now so heavily modified that there's areas of the coding they don;t want to touch because it will rock the boat and potentially break things that work well for now.

A good example was mentioned above, the zombie zig-zagging is the "soldier" AI trying to dodge bullets and flank, if anything could be done about that, it would have been done months ago.

I stopped playing the mod a couple of months ago, there's only so much time you can play something with fairly limited content.  Having said that DayZ is by far the game I've clocked up the most hours on in the past year and the fact that anyone still plays it at all is a miracle.  Most mods last a few months at the most, DayZ is still going strong well over a year now since it was made public.

For me the future is with the SA, over the next year or more the mods will become a thing of the past (at least even more niche than they are now) as the SA demonstrates what is possible once you move on from modding a game to having access to the core of the game itself, the engine.

Honestly I don't think much is fundamentally different.  I started a new character a couple of weeks ago (I can only play a couple hours every few days).  I've been using the same vanilla public server and it's usually pretty full, depending on time of day:

Spent some time in Cherno gearing up.

Met a friendly player in the market and later at the hospital/apartments.  Teamed up for a bit, traded some weapons, then went our separate ways.

Found a dead body with a M14AIM in one of the apartments.  No ammo so I left it.  Didn't mention it to my "friend".  LOL

Found 2 DMR mags in the big construction site.  After much deliberation and hearing many gunshots, decided to risk going back for the M14.  SUCCESS!

Wandered up north for awhile.

Killed a guy in the Zelenogorsk market.  Took his GPS.

Hit some heli crashes.  More DMR rounds.

Got freaked out when someone tossed a road flare at me.

Heard some scary gunfire around Gorka.  Hit for awhile, then moved on.

Found a fully functional Huey in Petrovka!

Buzzed Cherno a bit until I ran out of fuel.  Tried to hide the helicopter near Zelenogorsk but someone took it.

Wander the West and North edges of the map looking for camps or vehicles.  No luck. :(

Visit to Pobeda Dam

Almost died on a rock at Black Mountain.

Found a pair of ATVs at Klen.  Didn't feel like fixing them.

Not sure what I want to do next.  But DayZ still seems pretty DayZ to me.  I don't even mind the infection thing.  It makes me want to stay away from zombies more or be quicker to use my weapon to keep they from getting close.
