It's too late For Dayz.

Recommended Posts

Hello there

this is a very niche game.

If one is gagging for zombies or general survival there'll be and are plenty others to choose from.

I think the old "it's too late for dayz" is flogging a dead zed.

Standalone is just a ripoff of DayZ the mod.

The mod has been out for ages...too little too late Standalone...

Well that's just silly. The mod was a proof of concept, the SA in time will hopefully fulfill the potential of that concept.

Facts? What're those? Sound sketchy, to be honest.

Makes campfire - creates a 9mm pistol.

I love logic in this game :)

Rust looks kinda fun I guess.

Thing is, it doesn't run on ARMA so like State of Decay, The War Z and others it will be casual fest to the max and easy mode for anyone who has played the genuine article.

I like the survival genre and think developers should add more games to it. I don't think they all need to copy DayZ and certainly don't feel they all need to be zombie games. Miasmata, for example. Not the best, but at least not blatant thievery.

So today I discovered that an alpha of a game called Rust has been out in public and guess what? I am pretty impressed. this concept of open world survival FPS is not exclusive to Dayz anymore, and in Rust you can actually build a base using materials you harvested from the environment a thing that won't come to Dayz in a year (if the full version actually comes out by then) and what does Dayz have? a gimmicky radio and a new inventory big freaking whoop....

the standalone is the same as the mod, hell even the zombies still glitch like they did in the mod, I thought this would be eliminated because it's an official game, boy how wrong was I.

The dayz standalone is nothing more then a garage project with a small team and a limited budget and it will never become a "real" game, just an improved mod.

lololololol. Get outta here.

Lets not be too hard on Dimnzy. Dayz is great and I'm looking forward to the standalone, but there is a lot of room to make an even better open world zombie survival horror game.

hello there

This is true, there's always room for improvement, but many folk really don't realise the hurdles that have to be overcome when creating a game, even if using an existing engine.

Its not too late for Dayz, as even when released it will be in "alpha" and vast swathes of the game *could* change. Who knows? zeds could be removed altogether? One might play the part of a pet rather than a person?

Let's see what they come up with before we judge.

Also, if the critics pan it, you don't have to buy it, so you'll have lost nothing.

Dayz has become the original, most if not all other games that will be created for this genre will be just cheap attempts to cash in on its popularity. This is no different than most MMOs these days being World of Warcraft clones that try to offer something new, but in the end fail to match the quality of the original and die while Wow still stands at the top. These days in gaming are dominated by anti-community corporations like Activision and EA that make money through making cheap clones of their own games, don't expect originals like Dayz to occur often.

Being original doesn't guarantee being best.

I'm a DayZ loyalist, but as each day I'm made to wait passes, I fear for its demise. It seems each day I'm presented with alternatives, and most of those are the plethora of mods of DayZ.

If you wait long enough, other people will capitalize on your success.

Please open the door to the SA. There are so many waiting to come inside. Giggidy.

The dumbest thing they can do right now is release it in an unplayable state. THAT is how they would lose players. I am as eager as anyone else for standalone, but i dont want it if all i can do is run around chernarus with a gun that doesnt shoot and zombies that cant navigate a pile of rubbish on the ground.

Personally, from the vids I've seen of Rust, it looks really "unfinished."

One of main reasons I like DayZ is the realistic exteriors/ambience.

So however else Rust does, it's got a way to go to get there for me.

Pretty barren and cartoonish.

But some of what I've heard about the gameplay is neat. Waking up (spawning?) in your locked house and hearing other players trying to break in sounds "interesting."

"Hey George, sorry to wake you up, but can you log in, then come on over to my house and shoot these bastards outside?

I want to get out and play."

You do know that Garry (of Garry's Mod) made Rust? Presumably in his garage. DayZ, on the other hand, is being built by a team of experienced game programmers who work for Bohemia Interactive. I saw a video of them doing MO-CAP for animations. I think you need to get your facts straight before you go accusing things of being "garage projects." At least DayZ has a budget. And Rust, while it does have some interesting features, is not really that great looking anyway. Combat is buggy as shit, sounds don't even work properly, animations look like total ass, the crafting system actually makes very little sense. (OH boy I collected five bits of scrap metal! Now I can make a GUN! I mean, what the actual fuck?)

Seriously, are you retarded, or something?

Nobody tell him about Infestation: Survivor Stories.

Dayz is loosing players regardless...

There's literally no statistics to back that up because private hive numbers aren't recorded. Having said that, it's probably true, the hype for the mod can only last so long, for it still to be as popular as it is now with the limited content the mod offers is nothing short of a miracle and proves people want a game like DayZ.

The SA isn't losing players though, it's not been released yet so has everything to gain (and to prove) and the only way to do that is to take the time needed to make a solid game. If it's released and then built on solidly over the next few months (year?) then people will want to play it, that's just a fact. If it's rushed out to try to capitalise on the mod-hype (which was the initial plan with the December release date for a ported mod) it'll fall at the first hurdle and lose any faith people had in it, if it does that then it really will be in trouble.

It's not a first past the post system. DayZ already has peoples attention, attention many larger gaming companies would kill for, now they just need to release a good game to take advantage of that.

It doesn't matter if it is or not. It's a free mod, it'll continue regardless of popularity.

Oh, joy. Another "DayZ is going to fail" thread started by a person with 12 posts.

I'm not even going to waste my time looking for a facepalm meme.

looks okay but hardly complete. dayz is too slow at moment at doing the standalone but it is the best currently.

at end of day its whos behind the project and how much money. the team working on dayz are small with limited budgets.

Guys you can't compare Rust to DayZ. DayZ is running on an proper Engine which took years to develop. Sure there are few things in rust that are cool, but I would even hate them in DayZ. Building your house? What the fuck man who has time and energie to build house made out of wood in a zombie apokalypse? Rust is like minecraft + zombies. DayZ is a authentic zombie survival game. No, DayZ is THE authentic zombie survival game.

Sure, if there were a developer like Ubisoft, EA or I don't know who would invest much money into such a project they MAYBE could do it better. But I don't think you realise why DayZ is so successful. It is not just the concept but also the Arma 2 ENgine. You all are whining about it, it is really bugged, but ask yourself. Would DayZ be the same with an Battlefield Engine? Shooting easy as fuck, sniping easy as fuck, reactiontime unrealistic as fuck. Arma 2 Engine was almost the best you could choose because it is actually a simulator. It is authentic.

Sure someone could make a better Engine, but at this point there isn't. Try to run a DayZ Game that authentic on the Cryengine or Frostbite, it would smash your computer in bits, regardless how much power you have.
