Third person idea

It should be a limited view like having binocs ( did they plan or add mrirors in DayZ btw. if so mirrors like in ArmA 3 would be of course the greatest addition ), you shouldn't be able to see everything, just a section of what you would see in 3P maybe about 1/5 size round cut of the screen would still be a lot, maybe still too much. That would be the only reasonable alternative for those who still want to peep around corners. In the end it will still be "i want to see my cute ass in the new camo pants i found in that house" or "i want to see my enemy"...

Does arma 3 have working mirrors? man that gives me hope, how well do they function in vehicles?

A mirror on a stick is a great idea, the good thing about using a mirror is it allows corner peeking without exposing the player, and as Fluxley and Enforcer say the mirror could be spotted by an eagle eyed player, would reveal only a small area and so is a lot less OP'd than 3rd person.

Another idea would be to add 2 - 3 prone positions, similar to the stance system in arma 3, so a player laying prone behind a log or low rooftop wall could just raise his head enough to see over.

The only reason I really like third person is because first person feels really rough and clunky. So when I'm travelling it really gives me a headache to watch. However, when I get myself into an argument with guns, I will always use 1st person for a more engaging, realistic experience. But then you get people who exploit it, and use it in firefights, creating an unfair advantage.

I think pretty much the only way a compromise could work is if only firefights were restriced to first person. Maybe locking a player to 1st person once he's in combat or something like that. You could still hide and stalk people but without OP one shot one kill weapons, it wouldn't be a problem.

Trouble is, if you get spotted by a player who used 3rd person and you haven't seen him the damage is basically done, locking everyone into first person after he shoots you in the back helps no one.

Perhaps, yeah, but it would prevent lots of cheap tactics used during firefights. Currently, you can shoot at someone, hide behind a tree and track all their movement. Get out of the cover, shoot at them again. They can't use suppressive fire because it is useless and actually just makes it easier for you to track their position.

They are very cheap, meaning yes they reflect the world but in ultra low resolution. Check out an ArmA 3 vehicle youtube video or something.

They work quite well, depending on the vehicle they range from small to quite large. You even have a back up camera in some vehicles. All are using the new PiP technology.

@Noface They are still better than nothing and you can still recognize objects in them, you never know if they might up the details, it's still a beta you know. A lot of games don't even have mirrors... No matter what a studio does there will always be big time whining.

They're good enough for me, i've run over a friend once due to lack mirrors on a first person server :D oh how we laughed..well most of us.

agreed, would fit well in the game as a crafted item - mirrors everywhere.

Players, zombies, loot, vehicles and anything of interest is invisible until your character is directly facing it. So it will seem as though nothing is there if you're looking there in third person. Hopefully then it will encourage more people to use first person in firefights and engagements.

If you're hiding behind a wall in 3rd person, scanning for players no-one will appear, but as soon as your character is facing them, they appear again.

What if they're lying in the grass?

I like the idea and It would make the combat that much more immersive.

But I would probably prefer to just play on a FPO server if they're available from Day1
