aluethial 0 Posted June 19, 2013 Hello to all who might stumble upon this thread. I am writing this in hopes to get information about the current status of the mod, before that however allow me to indulge in a short story. Please skip paragraphs if you wish to avoid reading a lot of irrelevant information.Few years ago i actually played this mod on a private server with a friend whom i no longer consider a friend for various irrelevant to the situation reasons. When i played with said friend i noticed several things that made my experience worse than what i had hoped for it to be, even though i already knew the mod was not perfect. The things that made my gaming experience unpleasant were the zombie mobs and their behavior, the mechanics of the guns and the character controls as a whole, the terrain and it's inconsistent mapping (invisible walls, corrupt textures), overall low FPS even at low graphical settings. It was very hard to not only aim but to actually kill something, let alone if it was moving.Back in the day i was a huge CS/CoD/Wolfenstein/UT addict and i can honestly say that the skills that i had amassed during my time playing said games, were of absolutely no use while playing DayZ. And i am not even talking about the inventory management, just about aiming and shooting and stuff. If it weren't for my friend backing me up, i honestly can say that i wouldn't have made it even past a single zombie. I won't even go into detail about all the hackers and spawn zone campers... I hope you can all see how such a thing can be a bit discouraging to a new player.Recently i came across a popular YouTube'r who also did DayZ videos. In the stretch of a week i basically watched all his videos spanning from June 1'st 2012 till now, watching him become better at the game. I won't mention the name of said person but i would like to note that he served as an inspiration. I really do want to try playing this even now i am practically itching to play. I realize this information is irrelevant but i figure, it won't hurt if i just put it here. I am actually pretty good with snipers, and i basically have nothing to do at home so i think i would become a great sniper, the idea is invigorating! My goal right now is, if i do get the game and play the mod, to find said YouTube'r and nuke the hell out of him with a sniper from... like as far as humanly possible with a single bullet! Would be hilarious if it was done during one of his recordings. The one and only thing that is stopping me right now is the experience that i had in the past. This is also the reason i am making this thread. It is my hope that i will get honest opinions to my questions. Is the mod stable enough to justify sinking 30 euros into the ARMA 2 Complete Package? Is it possible to run everything from Steam, without having to tinker with files and settings? Are there any persistent problems with low FPS, glitching terrain, zombies, controls, and such? Will it run stable enough for normal play on a ASUS G75 (i can run anything on this thing, for example - FarCry 3 on maximum). I realize that to many this much money may not be a whole lot but to me it is and i can rarely afford to spend money on games, due to this i really do wish to know if it is worth it. I am asking for honest opinions because i do realize that there is the possibility that maybe hardcore players might not see the game from my perspective, maybe for some the concerns that i have stated might not be as huge of a deal as i make them out to be. I usually get pretty uncomfortable if a game is not running as smooth as possible. Obviously i do realize this is still Alpha but i am expecting for it to at least be playable.Anyway this is what i wanted to ask, sorry in advance if this thread was not posted in the correct location. I did took the time to search around for similar threads but to no avail.

Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted June 19, 2013 (edited) It is my hope that i will get honest opinions to my questions. 1. Is the mod stable enough to justify sinking 30 euros into the ARMA 2 Complete Package? 2. Is it possible to run everything from Steam, without having to tinker with files and settings? 3. Are there any persistent problems with low FPS, glitching terrain, zombies, controls, and such? 4. Will it run stable enough for normal play on a ASUS G75 (i can run anything on this thing, for example - FarCry 3 on maximum).1. No. Just buy Combined Ops for ARMA 2 and ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead. The Complete package brings nothing to the table, besides for 1-2 high-res textures for the Hero skin(which is replaced anyway in most DayZ-variations).2. Yes, but it's definitely not recommended. Use DayZ Commander instead.3. Yes, no, yes, same as usual.4. There are FPS problems due to the unoptimized nature of ARMA 2. But you can run it, yes. sanchez1jose 0 Posted June 19, 2013 Didn't they have a patch that made zombies less zig zaggy?About the Asus g75 I made a post about it and many people who use it said it could run DayZ on pretty high settings. Anyways, if you don't want hackers you should join a private hive or a whitelisted server.
ActionManZlt 160 Posted June 19, 2013 Yeah the movement and general behaviour of the zombies has changed a lot since the early versions.P.S. GOD is confused because the mod was released mid last year, so apparently she is not the only person who is omnipotent and omnipresent ;)
King Tubbs 224 Posted June 19, 2013 just wait for the SA most of what you talked about should be much better
philbottle 430 Posted June 19, 2013 I'd still recommend getting the mod. It's still being supported, it's as popular as ever and it gives you an experience you won't find in the standalone. Plus there are multiple maps available and different versions of the mod (e.g. origins, epoch etc) which again all have their unique flavour.I'm excited for the standalone but I think I'll still play be playing the mod for a while yet too. philbottle 430 Posted June 19, 2013 Mind you I've not been on much lately longer than an hour at a time so it's worth reading a few threads on the forums and gauging people's opinions to help make your mind up
aluethial 0 Posted June 19, 2013 Thanks to all who decided to reply. Firstly I would like to clarify that by saying “few years” I meant – some time ago, I’m bad with dates as I've played so many things that it’s hard to keep track. It has become something like a bad habit of mine. I do swear though it does feel as though it was more than a year ago. Sorry if someone felt offended by this irregularity in my original post. Now I did hear that there was work being done on a standalone but due to the lack of an actual release date or an estimate, I am rather suspicious of actually expecting it in the near future. I did stumble upon the information that there is (or will be) the possibility that you can pre-purchase the game and get early alpha access. Does anyone know more about this? Think this was on reddit or something. Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions.
Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted June 19, 2013 ...lack of an actual release date or an estimate...The first estimate was December 2012. The current estimate is June 2013. Which is still to be over. Nothing was promised, however, they're simply evaluating the current Alpha. As for the "pre-purchase," that's more or less correct.YES, you can get access to the Alpha by buying the game when it's released on Steam.NO, it is not a pre-purchase. Think Minecraft when you think about the release-model. You buy the game while it's in Alpha, and it will be generally cheap. (Minecraft was $5-$10 in Alpha, DayZ will probably be $8-$15.) You will not need to buy the game again once it's "finished," and you will receive all updates as they come and go. DayZ will probably leave Beta in a good year or two.
philbottle 430 Posted June 19, 2013 No-one really knows when it will be released.I'd invest a little time on the forum and read relevant threads for all the conjecture and naval gazing.Me personally, I'd say in the next few months but wouldn't bet anything valuable on it. ActionManZlt 160 Posted June 20, 2013 The current estimate is June 2013.[citation needed]The announcement was that there wouldn't be another announcement before June.
Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted June 20, 2013 The announcement was that there wouldn't be another announcement before June.Nope, I am pretty sure I've seen several mods here (Fraggle, Matt(,even Rocket?)) mention that they will be evaluating the current Alpha in June and that "this month is yet to be over." So I'd say it's an estimate, although nothing was promised.

That doesn't mean the alpha is coming in June though. http://www.reddit.co..._stream/caikskuThe closest thing we have to an estimate release date is this (posted a week ago):It's not going to be next week (jet lag, etc...). But it's not going to be longer than two months. It will be somewhere in between.http://www.reddit.co..._stream/caikwji Edited June 20, 2013 by SmashT

AnarchyBrownies 1383 Posted June 20, 2013 I think it should be emphasized for your sake that public servers are still crawling with hackers. If you're going to get the mod you should probably get whitelisted on a private server unless you just want to set yourself up for disappointment and frustration and possibly murder-suicide. Wouldn't recommend the last one. There are help lines if your emotions ever feel out of control... just pick up the phone.
