gibonez 3633 Posted June 17, 2013 While Chernarus is a wonderful map its setting in Easter Europe diminishes the potential of stand alone.Having it set to Eastern Europe greatly hinders the types and number of weapons that could be included in the game.I propose they work on a new map for the final release set somewhere in Middle America. This would greatly increase the variety of weapons and vehicles possible in the final product.Use chernarus during the alpha and beta as a placeholder and when retail comes out use the new American set map. BwobBwub 660 Posted June 17, 2013 (edited) NOPE.Edit: Why would they get rid of a map they have been working on like making new villages, enterable buildings.American cities are boring and too cliche for a zombie apocaylpse. gibonez 3633 Posted June 17, 2013 Never said City.I was thinking a small town somewhere in middle America.Reason is whenever something is mentioned or considered the setting of the game is always taken into account.Often times because of authenticity the idea is rejected because it would not fit with the setting. This as you can see greatly diminishes the potential of the final product. Most importantly though MOST of us are sick and tired of the same map. NightmareGER 21 Posted June 17, 2013 (edited) Just because it is set to an eastern european setting does not mean they will only use Russian weapons and vehicles in the SA.Dean already said that there is a balance that must be found that makes it authentic, and what makes a good game experience. So a variety of weapons from all over the world surely will be in the SA same with vehicles. But the eastern european weapons and vehicles will probably be more common in the SA.So finding that AK-74 is more likely than an M16But both will be in the Game i'm pretty sure of that. gibonez 3633 Posted June 17, 2013 I said the final game. Not the alpha.Test the alpha , beta in cherno as a placeholder.Release the final product in a whole new map so people have a new experience.
NightmareGER 21 Posted June 17, 2013 (edited) new experience. The SA will be a new Experience just for the fact that every settlement you enter will be different simply because you can look into all the buildings.Find loot that is placed in places that makes sense. And don't forget that they added new settlements way up north where there was nothing before. As well as the new big Island that they showed on a few screenshots. Zarniwoop 1193 Posted June 17, 2013 And anyway why does everything have to be set in the USA or with something USA'ish in it!? Can't we have something a bit diferent for a change?
hogscraper 328 Posted June 17, 2013 And anyway why does everything have to be set in the USA or with something USA'ish in it!? Can't we have something a bit diferent for a change?I don't think he's saying specifically because its the USA but because we have a shit ton of guns over here. People say you shouldn't have X gun in Dayz because its unrealistic that it would exist in an Eastern European country and he wants a lot of different choices. He's showing a lack of forethought, though, in having no idea what goes into making an Arma engine based map. The map itself could more easily be changed just by changing the signs and new vehicles added as an easier way to make it the USA, but personally I hate that idea. I love the fact that Cyrillic is an alphabet I now know and can read the signs but I learned it only because of this game. I also think it would be much easier to say a global zombie infection started in Chernarus and military forces from all over came there to help out before the zombies overran everything. Easy way to introduce any weapon in the world if that's what you wanted.
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted June 17, 2013 (edited) Yes, one thing I've not seen enough of in all my years of gaming has been America *yawn*.It's actually precisely because the game's not set in America and signs aren't in English that adds to the feeling of disorientation and sense of being lost. Regarding Cherno, well for the near future you're gonna have to accept that's where the game will be based. In the longer term though I have no doubt that we'll be seeing other maps. mick17 93 Posted June 17, 2013 The original Chernarus was 225 square kilometers. Dean has been saying at E3 that the world is 260 square kilometers. That's a hefty increase in real estate. If you pay attention to the videos they are working on expanding that even further with satellite data that hasn't been implemented completely yet. This took them (as far as I know) a long time. At least since they announced the SA. So they will be coming up on about 8ish or so months now just for comparatively (but large) small increase. So that is 35 square kilometer increase in 8 months. If they make a map the size of Chernarus for the release we are talking (with the speed that they are at now) around 56 months... Not to mention all the assets they would have to create because of the new setting ie, American buildings, cars, vegetation, etc.... I know Rocket has said about making a Western City map with surrounding landscape before but if I'm not wrong he was talking about after release as possibly paid DLC to fund it.Short answer: Not exactly possible to do unless they devote everything to the map and that is not the best idea. mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted June 17, 2013 From what I remember, Rocket has given the impression he'd like to have a built-up metropolis for future DayZ, just to play the survival scenario out it in a totally different environment.I'd support that, but it's not exactly "just around the corner" when it comes to time-frame. We're talking YEARS.I'd like to see somewhere Japanese, but I think it's more likely to be a "western" city. It's sounding like community-content will be playing a part at some point. Meaning BI's main task will be quality assurance.Still, we're going to be in Chernarus for a while yet.
Jars (DayZ) 63 Posted June 17, 2013 (edited) The biggest reason I play DayZ is the setting and atmosphere .The game is buggy as hell , loaded with hackers , and now its impossible to play somewhere decent with no sidechat or a bazillion vehicles and guns enabled .If it was set in ( god forbid ) America , it would have been stale and boring and of no interest at all .Terrible idea , in my opinion .I also think that if you're playing the game for the weapons ( which by your post it seems to indicate you are ) you're approaching this game with a very shallow view .Only a typically arrogant and overly patriotic American would make a post like this , there I said it . Edited June 17, 2013 by Jars
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted June 17, 2013 How about we get rid of zombies and guns? Oh I know, lets place it in Colorado and only be about 2 square miles.No. Chenarus will always be THE DayZ map. They want to add other maps eventually, including a 'western' map that Rocket wants to add, as well as a way to travel between maps. But for now shut up and drink your Zlota Kola and eat your Rice and put on your Motorbike helmet like the rest of us.
taco241 393 Posted June 17, 2013 I like a non-english setting. Love the European architecture, signage, cars, etc. There are plenty of Russian/Chinese and Eastern European weapon choices if that's your hang-up.
