.357/10mm handguns and revolvers

Recommended Posts

Currently DayZ pretty much has all the rifle families represented in it and covered pretty well.

But handguns are woefully under-appreciated. Everything is either a .45 or a 9mm, and even within those families there is not a lot of variety.

Solution: we need moar guns. Main handgun calibers to look into adding would be varieties of .22/.357/10mm pistols. And of course who wouldn't want a .50 cal Deagle to play with?

Nodeaglenodeaglenodeaglenodeagle. And I would say no 10mm either, those aren't common in Chernarus-like parts of the world where 99% of handguns seem to be 9x19 or 9x18. .38/357 could definitely work though, as well as .22.

I would also like to see more chamberings, including 7.62x25 Tokarev, but they have to be stuff that would actually be seen over there.

The hell is wrong with the Desert Eagle? Or the smaller, .45 cousin, the Double Eagle?

Anyway:

Rocket has pretty much confirmed civilian pistols, hasn't he?

Everything.

I'm sure people like this have dozens of 4-lb novelty pistols firing ammunition that costs $2 a pop...

Apparently SOMEONE doesn't read Rocket's posts. The ones concerning the availability of global civilian-owned firearms, not CHERNARUS-owned ones?

I don't recall Rocket stating there should be guns in Chernarus from all around the world.

And you'd be right. Care to share?

Nevertheless I don't want to see a Desert Eagle, it's a pistol with very little purpose, IMO. It's still cool and a great piece of engineering, but I don't feel it belongs in the game in any form. It's not exactly common either.

Hello there

There are lots of weapons I'd personally like but not many of them "fit" into dayz, I also wouldn't see how deagles etc would *work*.

leave them to modded servers, there's loads of existing packs with it in.

When you guys talk about what "fits" in DayZ, are you critiquing the existing weaponry as well?? Certainly all manner of M4's with all their accessories are a little out of place as well if you are sticking to an eastern European only theme.

Not from all around the world, no. But he said a lot of modern, western-market rifles will have influence (like the ruger 700, which doesn't belong in a soviet ex client)

I Don't really disagree with this proposition but its true that deagles or any other over powerfull guns would add trouble to the gameplay.

Still, I'd like to see an old powerfull revolver such as this one :

2450_antique_remington_revolver_2.jpg

The name would be "collection pistol". And would have an only 4 bullets roller.

Even if it doesn't fit to DayZ (post soviet) it would be original and fair enough to implement it.

Afterall, there are Colt and BAF weapons in DayZ (revolver - M4's and m16's).

BTW I'm thinking about a suggestion about adding three "collection weapons"

Please tell me what do you think about this.

The main feature would be that their ammunition would be craftable. Each of them would be really powerfull but with a very average precision.

It would compose in:

- a Carabine (something vintage looking like the Winchester. "collection rifle"

- a vintage revolver/pistol "collection pistol"

- a vintage hunting gun with pellets "collection shotgun" and "collection shotgun with short cannon" (Mad Max Styyyyle).

In order to craft the ammunition you need Scrap lead and gunpowder.

If you have any of these 3 types of "collection guns" you will only need to carry the scrap lead and gunpowder in order to create the ammunition.

Crafting would apear in action menu as "Prepare bullet crafting" then after few seconds being able to "craft bullets/pellets X"number" with Scrap Lead" You would only need to be by a fire or chemny.

The main advantage of this collection weapon system is that it allows to make lots of different weapon models with the same characteristics.

Example the Collection Rifle would have 3 or 4 different models or sounds but with nearly or totally the same "Cfg"

He never said this, either.

In fact, they (more specifically, Matt Lightfoot) said there would be many more local, civilian based firearms.

We absolutely are. I've said many times that most guns in DayZ should be more Russian and fit with the setting, and I believe I've seen Gews say it before.

Are we watching the same interviews and devblogs?

And why wouldn't there be a Desert Eagle? Are you saying there isn't a single Cherno-Russian with exotic taste, there are no crime syndicates that would be interested in a loud, scary sidearm?

If I was a post-soviet crime boss that wanted my enforcers to be scary without even pulling their gun, I'd invest in Deagles...

Hello there

I'm not saying they don't exist. many things do exist, but not many fall into the Venn diagram of "Guns i'd like to see in Dayz" and "Dayz".

I'm not saying my word is law, I have no influence with the devs whatsoever, this is just my opinion as a carbon based lifeform. (I hesitate to say person).

Please provide a source to Rocket saying that there would be a lot of Western styled rifles in DayZ.

As for my post about what Matt said, here's the source -

Seeing people running around with Desert Eagles is very unrealistic. They aren't a exactly a common firearm.

Why a Deagle?; it's heavy, rare, impractical and not in service with anyone. Where as M4's are light, common and practical and in service with 50+ countries

We can't have every single gun in existence in DayZ, so we need to choose the ones that we would most likely find there. If you were going to put every gun ever made in DayZ in realistic numbers, go for it. But out of all the guns you'd find in such a country, only 0.0001% of them might be Desert Eagles. So, is it really worth it to put it in? I say no, stick with something more authentic and fitting within the setting.

Depends on the gun in question... my personal opinion:

Not okay weapons

M24 - nope... should be obvious.

M40A3 - nope... should be obvious.

Lee-Enfield - nope... Mosin please.

Winchester - nope... should be obvious.

Revolver - nope, not in .45 ACP that is.

DMR - nope, American. And old.

M14 AIM - nope, American. And old.

M240 - nope, replace with almost identical FN MAG

M249 - nope, replace with almost identical FN Minimi

Mk48 - nope, did SOCOM somehow lose a bunch of these?

L85s - nope, were the Brits in Chernarus?

Remington 870 - nope, they have their own pump-actions and semi-autos.

M16s and such are fine by me, but Western weapons should be uncommon compared to Eastern stuff.

That includes things like G36s. Less of the attachment guns too, I doubt any M4s you'd see would have quad rails, forward grips and the latest from EOTech.

There are tons of cool guns from all over that part of Europe which would fit the situation much better. I've said before part of the problem is that many people want guns that they think are "cool"... look at all the posts making fun of the double-barrel and Makarov.

Take that person off the computer and stick an actual Makarov in their hands and they'd probably look like this:

0____0

So why do these things feel so crappy in-game? Bullet impact effects, recoil effects, and weapon noises make a huge difference in how a gun is perceived on the screen, I hope the standalone really looks at those factors.

So basically take out all the cool, superior egineered western rifles and replace them with lame russian plinkers and lead hoses.

Okay.

I dont' really care about what fits with the Russian setting, I want to shoot players and zombies with cool guns. I'm pretty sure 99% people who play this would agree.

Okay.

If you want stuff like that, go on over to Wasteland.

Also I hate to break it to you but it's already been confirmed that weapons will be much more civilian based in the SA.
