What do you like/dislike so far when it comes to SA?

Recommended Posts

Title says it all.

Pros:

  • I'm really happy that it'll be coming out soon, and the wait is finally over.
  • Loving the new gameplay style, more focused on looting and survival than just PKing.
  • The fact that high grade military weapons will be much rarer, but will really turn into a dislike if we lose our M4 CCOs and stuff like that.
  • The new zombie attack animations are awesome.
  • Server side zombie spawning and inventory system look pretty good.
  • The premise behind clothing and health is even better.

Cons (YES I FUCKING KNOW IT'S IN ALPHA):

  • ANIMATIONS! I was so looking forward to fluent movement like in the Mod, it seems very jerky and very forced. Hopefully it'll get patched!
  • The drag and drop inventory screen. No idea if it was just Matt at the controls, or what, but this also seemed very funky when it came to controlling. No offense Matt!
  • Holding of the gun. Seems very minor, yes, but the character looked like he was 'scarfacing' with his weapon. I really hope that this changes as well.
  • Those Ugly UGLY crosshairs. EW! Get rid of them, please!
  • The zombie death animation... *sadface* still looks like a bad actor in a low budget shakespeare production.
  • Yes, this one is old. But the fact that the A3 engine isn't being used more.

So, what do you all like and dislike? Please keep it mature and detailed, don't come on here and be bickering with each other or insulting anyone.

Yes, I acknowledge that we are in the alpha phase, and have quite a ways to go till Beta and release. So keep it OUT of your replies!

EDIT. Gameplay footage if anyone doesn't wanna search for it.

I thought most of the animations were pretty bad.

i thought most of everything in the video looked bad.

if i didnt know better i would have said it was a console port of DayZ.

i dont think there was one moment were i was excited to see something. as if it were entirely new, like SA should be offering.

yes the animations were pretty subpar, but that's probably something they can rework later. personally glad they're reworking the entire metagame. i always enjoyed dayz best at the very beginning when military weapons were extremely rare, and the dmr was considered the best rifle. emphasis was on exploration and survival rather than senseless banditry.

hahah sorry but i have ZERO faith the community wont be right back to KoS within 2 weeks of release..

people will have been everywere, seen all the new stuff, and then simply return to popping every person they see..

hope im wrong but i REALLY dont think i'll see anything but CoD on a huge map continue..

I'd like to chime in.

Changing from one action to another looks way more jerky than ArmA, but I'd take that over fluid-looking animations any day, if it means we have more responsive control of the characters.

Being able to vault while running and shoot while walking is a pretty massive gamechanger IMO.

Female zombies.

Crafting.

Many more zombies.

Zombies run indoors.

Possibly more players on the server.

Loot being spread out and harder to find

Less high end military weapons (more civilian weaponry)

More towns, buildings, structures, Utes added to Chernarus +

Workable Radios

Weapon attachments.

Players can now jump.

Introduction of disease

Zombie life cycles

Zombies spawned all the time (zombies around no longer means player around)

The idea of scavenging car parts to build a vehicle

Motorcycle helmets look awesome

Dislikes:

Vehicles might not be in on first alpha release (a minor dislike tbh)

Zombies still need work

So there is my opinion. I for one am very excited.

Perhaps a few people need to step back and ask why did they like DayZ in the first place if a few alpha animations are causing you to vomit at the screen.

EDIT: I am also moving this to the General Discussion thread.

I completely understand why they did DayZ. It was a revolutionary step forward in gaming.

I'm still loving SA, but really hope the Anim's get much better. Which I don't doubt they will.

Hopefully it being early days a lot of these problems can be ironed out.

I didn't take too much notice of the new player animations tbh but they didn't stand out to me as being bad. I do remember Rocket saying he wanted animations to reflect a civilian ie: someone who doesn't necessarily know how to handle a gun, as opposed to the military animations of the Arma 3 and Arma 2 soldiers.

Not moving to ArmA3's branch and then starting was just a very poor decision. DayZSA is going to constantly look dated.

But the animations, besides the lack of blending between them at least, look really good.

gameplay seen looks tab boring

zombie knock downs = just remvoe them its stupd or make them extremely rare.

no vehicles on release whoever did this have a word with your self majority wont care if tey are being updated they need vehicles to get round big map and running equals not fun and boring so just add old ones until you finish the newer versions.

make it fun . fun is what sells games and what makes them good not stupid windows 8 style functions and minecraft style gui. every dev is trying to crecreate minecraft features stop ! it aint cool its been done to death . create your own things and make it simple and easy.

Some of the new animations look cool, but some are a bit dissapointing. The new zombies look a bit smoother, but as we can see, they still glitch through the floor and hit you from a pretty big range. I hope that gets fixed.

Correct me if i am wrong but when has anyone, especially Rocket, said the intention was to make a fun game. So called "fun" games have been done to death and it was refreshing to find a mod which was unforgiving, brutal, annoying, rewarding and intense.

I understand the vast majority of games are made with fun in mind but that is not what DayZ was about. Why should survival in a zombie apocalypse be fun?

Fuck fun i want a simulation where fun is the last thing on my mind. If i want some fun i'll tap my wife on her shoulder.

Well, then I would hate this. Forcing everyone of us to play as a retard isn't the way to go. Let the people put their knowledge in the game. And if its not possible, the game must got that knowledge for granted, which is the case in weapons animations.

My opinion

Pros:

- Map looks awesome with the new enterable buildings.

- Vault while running

- Shooting while running (though I hope precision gets null)

- Zeds actually looking like zeds

- Female zeds

- Inventory Drag & Drop

- Inventory subdivision

- Some of the new animations (like drinking)

Cons:

- Some of the new animations (like weapon handling)

- Crosshair (not this one in particular, ANY crosshair. I hope they're completely removed)

- Don't know if its the final weapon or provisional but I expected a much more better weapon graphics. That AK looks like CS 1.6, which is good... for 1999.

- Inconsistent & still glitchy zombies.

- Inventory space disposal seems to be still incoherent: a rolled map taking the same space as a 2L water Bottle? I expected to see the trousers not with 6 spaces but more like 60, and then an AK magazine takes 15 but an epi-pen only takes 4, a single bullet takes only 1 and so on.

- Looks like if for taking items you have to aim at them with highly precision. Which substracts naturallness from the act of looting. In any other game you just have to 'overaim' to the element to interact with it. This feature here is gonna be the most annoying within 5 minutes of playing.

- No HUD??? Devs please, don't listen to those yelling a no-hud is more realistic. IT IS NOT. In real life we have 5 senses, ingame we have only 1 and a half (one for audio, half for view), a HUD is a must. I need to know if im hurt and where, or how many mags I have left (not for bullets inside the mag though),

- Maybe its only my imagination but the characater seems a bit overweighted? Dat fatty ass... Or maybe the narrow shoulders? I'm not sure about this, its just a feeling.

We aren't all ex military black ops who know how to handle a weapon properly. I know which end to point at my target and that's about it. What's wrong with the character reflecting a more civilian look as opposed to a trained soldier?

Perhaps the animations could change as your character uses the weapon more and more and gets more comfortable with it.

Goodies;

-Most of the buildings seem enterable. (YUSS!!!)

-New inventory system along with storage system of clothes etc.

-New zombie attack logic.

-New movements so far.

-Crafting. (IKR!!)

-New clothes and such.

-Design of the buildings.

Cons;

-Anims must be improved.

-Game doesnt look like an MMO as MHO. Maybe some game interface can be added. (Only some!)

-Zombies must be worked on so much. They hit from far away. They hit even before they jump. Close zombies do not start raging even though the ones that are faaar away start raging. (<- the worst part of the zeds) New zombie sounds should be added. (Pls!)

-Climing walls, jumping over medium-high stuffs and such anims should imo be added.

-I would desire to open/close the doors like I used to do that in Amnesia and sorta games.

-Controlling doors may sometimes be kinda complicated in regards to see which door we are about to open/close when the doors are close to eachother.

-Dat crosshair..

-Zeds going thru the walls or my eyes gone blind instead ? (just joking.. ofc ik that its my eyes...)

-Add some "HUD".. Its not like only cus of a few kids cried for non-HUD all the community wants that.. We desire improved HUD instead. Maybe then the game could look like more MMORPGish ?

-Adding a chatroom for "HELP". Admins can check that chatroom all day/every day for possible meta-gaming attemptions if they can be assed. Many ppl will need help. Some will try to ask for guidance of admins and such.. Going along with "Forum-Only" is not actually a very wise idea.. Even WoW, ArchLord, L2Kings and sorta games have their admins online around and so..

-Dogs.. not MMORPish ? Really ? And giving WoW as an example of a game mechanic just after ? (srsly ? )

-Some nature effect plz (fog and such as we all know from BreakingPoint)

-What about lightning in the cities and so at nights ? C'mon guys..

-Game looks kinda laggy (a lot actually..) You shoot at a zombies and they die after 3-4 seconds with a dramatic way, which makes the scene look like a fail theater attempt...

-Sometimes doors do not see the player so you cannot open/close them at all. (source: www.youtube.com/watch?v=usUYz7o1vQ0 sec: 07:05 )

-Sometimes zeds run away cus of.. no reason ? o.O

-Zeds jump into no where and stand there still waiting like there is nothing to do..? (source: www.youtube.com/watch?v=usUYz7o1vQ0 )

-Zeds dodge bullets.. They are I guess too smart for humanity ? How can they really think of running right and left fast while raging at their targets? Are they rly aware of that we got guns and when we are about to shoot ? Ik that the game is not based on TWD but that action is literally from "NOWHERE". (no such a BS "EVEN" in 28 days...) (source: www.youtube.com/watch?v=usUYz7o1vQ0 01:15-01:35.. seriously ? o.O Do you rly think that was funny now ?)

-Yeh.. Added some blood into some buildings etc.. But the city ? The city, walls and everything else just looks perfectly fine and clean.. And this is an apocalypse now ? LoL bite me..! At least add some text made by blood or such to the tunnels which go thru some buildings like "The World's End Is Coming!!" or "This Is The Pandemonium!" or "GOD IS PUNISHING US!!" or such ya know..

-A key to collect the items when some seen instead of having to use mouse-wheel for it as well.

Animations were pretty bad and zombies still look quite buggy.

Everything else though was pleasing. They did an amazing job with the building interiors and all the terrain textures.

Perhaps the animations could change as your character uses the weapon more and more and gets more comfortable with it.

If thats all you know you wouldn't even be able to proper reload a weapon, or even to remove the safety. So why bother using it.

That would be skill learning as any other RPG which is a no-go as Rocket stated (if I remember well).

Civilians are dead, civilians are zeds. If the average civilan can survive this then no apocalypse would take place. The superior civilan and the trained military are the ones capable of survive this, or to try, at least.

And even if civilians could survive, I repeat the same. There's no reason to force all of us to play like a retard. Put realistic ballistics ingame, put weapongs jaming with missuses (you can't just spray a machinegun non-stop like if this was Call of Duty) and whatever you wanna put ingame that IS controlled by the player. But what is not, don't force us to play as a retard. Is all I'm asking.

Same with fatigue. You ain't able to run for 5 minutes? well, I am, for 5, for 30, and for 120. So don't force me to play with a fat piggy desk-attached just because it's the average. Average are dead.
