carbine781 (DayZ) 131 Posted June 4, 2013 (edited) Hi guys. Here are a few opinions about the new feature of clothing. First, heres one of Dean Hall's dev blogs featuring it: http://www.youtube.c...?v=W8xcv51C2ug.Do i like the idea of having various clothing? Yes, I do. I am into it quite a bit. That being said, there are a few things in the video that I don't like.REMEMBER THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION!First off, the fact that you can be in your underwear. I don't know why, but i'm not a huge fan of that. You'd never come to a zombie infested island with a white shirt and boxers on. At least start out with maybe a pair of jeans. As for girls, don't let them take their clothes off too much either. Running through cherno naked with chemlights = new biggest thing if they keep this in probably. Also, too many helmets/hats = bad. In WarZ, people started killing other people because they had a hat they wanted, and i don't want that to start. Also, if there is too many hats, this will turn into team fortress 2, where people want to collect hats. Also, im not sure if they are implementing this, but make certain clothes help out with temperature. Example: Warm clothes help out in night, while they make you more thirsty (sweaty) during the day (if its hot out). Here are some clothing types that i DO support (Assuming the shirt designs don't have ridiculous logos on them:JeansTshirts (Various types and styles, plain, checkered, etc.)Long Sleeved shirtsVests (like the current survivors have on)Hats (not helmets)Sweaters and CoatsShortsOther forms of pantsMilitary clothing (ghillie suits, etc. Keep those in, but make the clothing package unique)Clothes that I do not like:HelmetsUnderwearRidiculous costumesMasks (im fine with bandanas like what bandits have on, but don't add hockey masks, clown masks, etc.)Weird Hair (This isn't a clothe, i know, but i don't want to see some random mohawk bicycle gang. This isn't mad max XD)Here is what i think a survivor should look like: http://i47.tinypic.com/2ikulmt.jpgHeres 2 pictures of what i don't think characters should look like (Heres some super buff guy: http://i1.ytimg.com/...o/hqdefault.jpg)Heres a guy with a hockey mask on (I hate this): http://www.mmogames....creenshot-3.pngFinally, my opinion on character customization: Faces and gender only. Nothing else. Keep it simple. Don't add the ability to make your character fat, skinny, super tall, or a shrimp. You can also edit gender, but thats about it. As for hair color, don't give the ability to die your hair pink or something stupid. Please. As a little summary, keep character customization / clothing simple. Make it so you can identify your friends from other people, but don't make it way too customizable and crazy. Make people look normal! Thats it. Hope you agree. If you don't, tell me what you don't agree with. Leave your opinion about this down below!. Edited June 4, 2013 by carbine781
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted June 4, 2013 (edited) IMO there should be as much freedom as is sensible for the Devs to provide us.I don't want them to spend time modelling clothing options at the expense of other features, but honestly, my everyday appearance IRL probably wouldn't fit most folk's idea of "normal".I understand the urge to have simplicity, to stop things getting stupid, but there's WAY too much variation in the world to decide what's "normal"-looking, when compared to other folks. If the clothing options manage to pull off a decent example of function-over-fashion, most folks won't give what they look like top priority. I don't want to see half naked survivors with hockey masks on and giant pink mohawks running around. I sort of like survivors to look like the first picture up there. Common hair style, no weird clothes, etc.

carbine781 (DayZ) 131 Posted June 4, 2013 (edited) What's wrong with hockey masks? Also 500 poooooooooooooostsIm not into giving your character the ability to do all of these crazy things to his appearance. The current characters look normal and realistic. However, i don't want a bunch of Friday the 13th fans (btw my name is Jason)dressing up in hockey masks. I mean, its not exactly necessary, and people wouldn't always do that in real life. Also, im honored that your 500th post was on this page :) Edited June 4, 2013 by carbine781

Every day.It doesn't make sense to have everyone look like Mad-Max, but it also doesn't make sense that nobody ever could. If you know what I mean.I doubt all the Moshers, Wild-West enthusiasts and CyberPunks would be killed off instantly. For the sake of the game, less ridiculous probably is better. I just like options. (Particularly when they provide more than just looks)

(Particularly when they provide more than just looks)Yeah exactly. What I would love to see is discoverable clip pouches (only for military vests), bandoliers and scabbards for shotgun junkies (Mad Max style :D), different camo varients (with fucking sleaves), etc.As for the helmets, yeah it is going to look weird people running around with motorcross helms, but there should be those options available. Its definitely something we as the community have to test when the SA launches.Cheers,Lidskjalf :beans:
Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted June 4, 2013 (edited) As long as there's more than one variation of it, people will collect it.If the Standalone didn't have hats of any kind, but 200+ jackets, people would collect those and kill just to get one that they don't yet own. So.. The hat point feels pretty invalid, to me.As for the 'warm clothing' stuff, Rocket did say that running around naked is going to cause problems. Especially with the addition of various diseases, temperature and clothing are going to play a significant part in the Standalone. simfreek@hotmail.com 48 Posted June 4, 2013 I can relate with your oppinion. The stuff you don't like, I mostly wont be dressed like that, though I may have a helmet But, I beleieve that letting some one be as unique as possible, allows for better identification of who your friends are. I would thinks this would prevent a lot of "Jason is that you? Jason wait, that's me! Wait that.... *bang, dead*... wasn't Jason."Also, helmets have a real goal in SA. They will help with bullets, and also help with being knoched out as they have changed how heath works. Get hit by a zombie with no helmet and you are going to have your lights out. methr1k2dop3 323 Posted June 4, 2013 i dig OP. :beans:Make sure hats and stuff are pretty generic so it doesn't turn into a fashion game. maybe just various colors so groups can identify themselves on the field.A band of bored man childs running around cherno in there skippies and a ridiculous looking hats would kinda kill the mood of a zombie apocalypse. Quartermaine 34 Posted June 4, 2013 (edited) I'm fairly certain that Dean has alread confirmed/alluded to this sort of thing several times before in past interviews/dev blogs.By normal, i simply mean not ridiculous. I don't want to see half naked survivors with hockey masks on and giant pink mohawks running around. I sort of like survivors to look like the first picture up there. Common hair style, no weird clothes, etc. It's going to happen, I for one am excited to relive this moment Link related, It's my wasteland heroEdit: Tried working out how to make youtube video show in my post. Gave up trying to figure it out. Edited June 4, 2013 by Quartermaine

Clumzy (DayZ) 377 Posted June 4, 2013 When I imagine bandits in the standalone, I imagine some wearing camo to keep hidden, but I also imagine some bandit clans wearing Fallout-esque armour and rampaging through the major cities, doing crazy bandit things.
spiry3_ 50 Posted June 4, 2013 from what i heard, some other people on the community are working on clothes and other design stuff...but i believe that the dev team will stay mostly to the coding
Firewarrior64 69 Posted June 4, 2013 If they are still adding gas masks, that's the only thing that matters...But seriously, there shouldn't be any kind of very or cool-looking clothes like military uniforms, because them people will start killing each other for those. Ghillie suits are a different thing though, I think of them as sniping equipment.

OrLoK 16185 Posted June 5, 2013 Hello thereI'd like a big mix of clothing etc.Large purple dildos I can do without though.BUT, I too dress "alternatively" and often do have a short taxidriver esque Mohawk. Why should I be disallowed to have one in game?Yes, a plethora of clown masks would be annoying but finding a rare one? I have no issue with that.People will kill for anything not just hats, so dont worry too much about them.We need variety, and remember, what's "normal" to you is not to another.RgdsLoK
DemonGroover 8836 Posted June 5, 2013 Yeah i don't think anyone has suggested you start in your underwear, just that it is possible to get down to your underwear. For me the more choice and variety the better.
Death_Dealer 3155 Posted June 5, 2013 Gas masks please. Not entirely practical but would be a neat feature to character customization.
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted June 5, 2013 (edited) Thing is, if more gear (such as rebreathers and gas-masks, waterproofs and welly-boots) were practical, as in serving a purpose, looking catwalk-sexy won't be the first thing that comes to mind.EDIT:As long as there are drawbacks to dressing solely for style, I see no harm in including as many options as possible.Snow camo combats and a denim patch-jacket might not be the most suitable survival-clothing. But you'll know it's me when you see me. Edited June 5, 2013 by Chabowski
Firewarrior64 69 Posted June 5, 2013 (edited) Gas masks please. Not entirely practical but would be a neat feature to character customization.External ArtistsOur team of artists recruited from the community have been hard at work. The new male character mesh is being prepared, in line with the new skeleton, as well as a new template for clothing skinning. The new M4A1 has been committed with proxies that allow our new attachment system to be utilized along with the crafting system. Also being worked on are a Gas Mask, Pilot Helmet, Mauser Rifle, pen/paper, mess tin, can opener - a huge amount of items are being developed while we wait for the programming tasks to be completed heading towards our first public release. But yeah, I'd love them, too. Soulless gas mask bandit... The last thing you hear in the world is the cruel breath...I don't really like the idea of being able to undress to the underwear either- if female survivors did that, all pervs on that server (so almost everyone) would chase her to get closer view on the textures... heck no.You should only be able to take your clothing off if you have other clothing available for changing clothes. (and then clothing should just switch instantly, without seeing the underwear) Edited June 5, 2013 by Firewarrior64
