thedeedguy 0 Posted May 31, 2013 (edited) So would it be possible some time down the line for Dayz to be released on Xbox One. I play Dayz a lot but it would be a cool edition for when ever I go to a friends house i could still play Dayz. I remember a while back it was mentioned but i would like to bring the topic back to life as the NextGen consoles have now been announced and just looking at the specs i could see it being possible. So what does everyone else think. Edited May 31, 2013 by thedeedguy
Clumzy (DayZ) 377 Posted May 31, 2013 A big problem is the amount of buttons needed for such a game.A lot.
Statik (DayZ) 2695 Posted May 31, 2013 (edited) I don't think that will happen. Console communities would absolutely destroy the game. Plus I don't think the game deserves a place on console, it should stay PC.EDIT: and like was said above, there wouldn't be enough buttons. Mos1ey 6301 Posted May 31, 2013 (edited) Rocket's said that it's highly possible. He would most likely pay another company to develop the console version and I doubt they'd even think about it until DayZ reaches the 1.0 final release on PC (as in after the alpha and beta periods are over) as releasing patches on Xbox Live is incredibly expensive. thedeedguy 0 Posted May 31, 2013 Well updating on Xbox 360 Is expensive but who knows what they might do for the new Xbox One as they are trying to compete with PS4. So there is a high chance that updates to Xbox One could be free or at least a smaller fee than current.
Timmymachine109 (DayZ) 235 Posted May 31, 2013 Doubt it!! The games are about £90 each...probably be expensive for the updates too!!!

I'm talking about Microsoft charging the developers to release updates, not the end-user paying for them.
colekern 1364 Posted May 31, 2013 (edited) If anything, it will most likely come to at least the PS4, because then they won't have to deal with stupid cloud computing. But it could come the Xbox to. Edited May 31, 2013 by colekern
BwobBwub 660 Posted May 31, 2013 It's inevitable unfortunately. God knows how it will work but it just will.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted May 31, 2013 It's inevitable unfortunately. God knows how it will work but it just will.I envisage it being something like the Minecraft port. A bit dumbed down, smaller world, simplified controls etc.It won't be the same but a console version would work.
Clumzy (DayZ) 377 Posted May 31, 2013 I don't really see why people are upset about it going to consoles, I mean it's not going to affect your game experience on PC, is it?
Mos1ey 6301 Posted May 31, 2013 I don't really see why people are upset about it going to consoles, I mean it's not going to affect your game experience on PC, is it?Nope, Rocket said that it would most likely be sub-let to another company to develop. It would pretty much mean more monayyys to develop the PC version and future projects.
spinager 152 Posted May 31, 2013 A big problem is the amount of buttons needed for such a game.A lot.You mean Arma 2? Who knows what they took away or added to the standalone.
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted May 31, 2013 A big problem is the amount of buttons needed for such a game.A lot.Well, I've played Arma3 with Xpadder before, without any problems. Modifier buttons allow you to multiply the number of functions you can set.Considering DayZ doesn't need NPC commands and all that stuff, it's probably going to end up having only a fraction of the controls of ArmA anyway.I can't understand why a console port is "unfortunate" at all. That's a seriously immature, knee-jerk reaction IMO.An outsourced console-port would be nothing but beneficial to BI.
Death_Dealer 3155 Posted May 31, 2013 If DayZ does arrive to consoles, it will have to be dumbed down quite a bit.

mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted May 31, 2013 (edited) If DayZ does arrive to consoles, it will have to be dumbed down quite a bit.Hmmmm, that remains to be seen. It would be true for 360s and PS3s, but I'm not so sure about the next batch. The upcoming consoles look to be on par with current mid-range PCs and software will be easily optimised. (exactly the same hardware across the board)That means, even though they're restricted in terms of updates, by not being open-source, they're likely to run DayZ just as well as, if not better than PCs on average.Realistically, control-schemes, server-hosts and updates would be the only things holding them back.EDIT: The console demand likely won't be as big as PC for this style of title though. It's kind of a niche market. (it just happens to have exploded in popularity recently) Edited May 31, 2013 by Chabowski

I remember a while back it was mentioned but i would like to bring the topic back to life as the NextGen consoles have now been announced and just looking at the specs i could see it being possible. So what does everyone else think.Looked at the specs?...if they want to get that working they have to strip the game to the bone to get decent fps. That's how they get the games working fluid, they look good at first glance but compared to a PC port ( if they actually manage not to screw up the port ) it's nothing. Just like NVidia tried to trick players be telling this and that patch increases your fps in all games but in reality they used the backdoor and blurred out some details to get more fps. They didn't really make the GPUs work better they just "optimized" the textures. If the consoles had anything close to PC quality i would have bought both major consoles already, but they don't and over half of their games doesn't appeal to me either. And yet again we have a monopole where you can only use Sony peripherals on the new PS and of course we have the same on the XBox...I like the freedom that comes with the PC.

mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted May 31, 2013 (edited) They do tend to use lower-res textures / low render distances etc. for current console ports, (BF3 is an example of an EXTREME chop-down) but then again, the 360 only has 512MB of RAM. Which is a SERIOUS hurdle for modern gaming. Most players on PC aren't running the game MAXed, they're just given the option. And they should be choosing performance over graphical quality anyway. The way things are at the moment, Optimisation > Hardware.EDIT: Just to add, if they do port it and manage to pull a constant 60fps on Highish (for PC) settings, it'll be pretty damn good. Death_Dealer 3155 Posted May 31, 2013 Perhaps DayZ could very well work okay on future consoles.Like Minecraft, it'll probably be released to console after it gets tweaked and worked on to perfection on the PC platform. Or another company could take over the 'console department' of DayZ and work from there.
PK Richie 507 Posted May 31, 2013 I don't see why it should remain PC only, servers wouldn't mix so if you think you're better than a console player, be happy you won't ever meet them in game :)Xbox sales would bring a good income for the Dayz/BIS team so that will benefit all platforms, more money = better development :DThe only snag is Microsux and also Sony have limits of what games can do, most have low player counts because of bandwidth rules, not hardware limitations.
