Cap'n (DayZ) 1827 Posted May 29, 2013 Hello everyone, I am here tonight to talk about possible expansion of Chernarus. For those of you who don't know or are ignorant pricks that never bothered to actually play ArmA 2, the part of Chernarus we actually play in is not the full country. It is but a province, only a small region of a medium sized nation. What I'd like to see is an expansion outside of our current borders, maybe occupying the current space of the debug plains. Chernogorsk is not the actual capital of Chernarus; Novigrad is the official capital if you've read up enough source material about Chernarus. Maybe there could be separate parts of Chernarus that are different maps and could be loaded by traveling "off map". This could alleviate the extra burden of expanding the current map. Anyways, how would you guys feel about the expansion of Chernarus(South Zagoria as it is now). And is anyone else out there as interested in Chernarus itself as a nation? Or is it just an unhealthy obsession and that I need to take medication?
JackieBoy 17 Posted May 29, 2013 in the standalone utes was actually added to chernarus near skalisty island that is a big step. Maybe more islands like of that size may be added or even all maps. Now that would be awesome.

Not a short swim for Skalisty.
burritoman259 593 Posted May 29, 2013 I have played regular arma and isn't chernarus apart of southern zagoria or something like that?
Maxwell(friendly) 38 Posted May 29, 2013 (edited) Well normal slots per server now is 50 and in standalone it might be 200 so thats 4x as many people. So maybe map will be 4x as big :D that would just be awsome. Edited May 29, 2013 by Maxwell(friendly)

Hetstaine 10852 Posted May 29, 2013 You do need medication but that is besides the point ;) I would love a map that encompassed the entire region. My dude is so fit he could walk it in a pinch.
purplish 70 Posted May 29, 2013 You may want to check out my mod then... currently we are having great plans to add mroe islands to chernarus and make use of that huge ocean!
aussiebobby 82 Posted May 29, 2013 I sure hope notthere is enough pointless walking as it is.If the map was a 50gig download Id still ask for more .This would be bad news for the KOS crowd.CODkiddy:Iv been camping Electro hill for two hours and nothing, and yet there are 80 people on this server..where could they all be?...this map sucks
Saethkept 134 Posted May 29, 2013 (edited) I've always imagined the "ideal" sized DayZ map to be 900 square kilometers. With the speed of faster land vehicles and aircraft, one can cover even the largest current maps in too short an amount of time. Larger maps would also allow for small communities to grow around certain areas of given map without the constant threat of "invasion". I am all for larger maps, and if I had a year or two off from real life, I would create a 900 or 1200 square km map for DayZ. Perhaps someone will get down to it at some point. Private Evans 1303 Posted May 29, 2013 (edited) From a technical point of view...Chernarus is a 2048 x2048 map using a scale of 7,5. This gives us a playable map of 15360 x 15360 meters (225 km²). Everything that can be seen beyond this map ingame is so called outside terrain and is generated automatically by the game engine. This outside terrain can not be edited!!!To extend the map you would have to enlarge the original heightmap, sat map and texture map. The next possible (highest possible) seize would be a 3072 x3072 map using of course the same scale of 7,5. The result would be a 23040 x23040 meters map (529 km²). BI editing software (visitor) allows also to generate 4096 x4096 maps but even they avoid this size because it tends to be unstable (beside other problems). The better (only) and more realistic solution to expand Chernarus (green sea region) would be to combine different maps via travelling(teleport) scripts.Green sea expansionhttp://forums.bistud...-Project-(GSEP)thats how it could look likecheersEdit : 3 areas are avaible so far and can be downloaded here :http://www.armaholic...itle&w=asc&d=30. Death_Dealer 3155 Posted May 29, 2013 http://forums.bistud...-Project-(GSEP)Wow. The Chernarus we're limited to is pretty damn small on that map. Then again, it's 200+ km wide. :P
SmashT 10907 Posted May 29, 2013 (edited) Well that explains it, pretty much not going to happen then. I was hoping they could expand it to the West, add in that Miroslavi river, maybe add the Black Moutains to the North (would be good for a cave system) but guess not. Private Evans 1303 Posted May 29, 2013 (edited) This is why Utes has been placed that near to the coast. It has been integrated into the existing map. However I think it would be cool to have the possibility to link different maps later on. Edited May 29, 2013 by Private Evans
fluxley 2228 Posted May 29, 2013 -snip-Knew there was a reason they couldnt expand the map so easily but never had it explained before, thanks man.

Still, a 400km2 Chernarus expansion wouldn't be so bad. I'd say it would be best to expand into the North and a bit to the East. Then, they could develop more parts of Chernarus to travel to. Say, when you reach the border and attempt to cross, it will send you into another "server" which contains the new map.

I'd pay money for that.

xx_fr0st-w0lf_xx 53 Posted May 29, 2013 Technology is progressing, I'm sure they are able to expand it a little more, but what i would enjoy seeing is the spread of loot, more military camps and such at the moment, its chrno and elek for spawn, berizino or stary for mid and nwa for the last chunk of loot everything in between is pretty point less

CartridgeMaker 5 Posted May 29, 2013 Has no one thought of setting up DayZ on the modified Chernarus map of the Army of the Czech Republic DLC from BIS? It turns most of the current sea into terrain and the current coast becomes the NW edge of a river.... More terrain to walk around in...
