More realistic animations. [Details in topic]

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! Its JKing.. With another suggestion.

As you could probably tell, i think the animations should be better, such as

Opening doors. When you open a door, it just opens, but instead of that, you should be able to reach out, grab the doornob, and open the door.

Crawling. When in first person, you should see your arms come out and help yourself move along the ground.

Running with a gun. When running with a gun in first person, you should see the gun moving in your hands.

Standing. When you are standing and you have a gun, you should be holding it "At the hip" and not have to crouch to have it ready.

That's really all i can come up with for now, but i will be adding to this post more and more. Please put in the reply's below if you agree with any of these, or want to add more things, put it in a reply below.

I think it's been discussed that there will be smoother and better animations, as well as more for different actions in the Standalone, similar to Arma 3.

And if you're running with a gun, you actually can see it if you just look down in the first-person free look mode. If you're sprinting, you can actually see it, and this is actually more realistic than if it were always directly in your face.

Maybe when lighting fires or putting on vehicle parts, you actually do accurate animations of doing so, here are some examples;

Lighting a fire: When you have matches you actually see your guy/girl light the matches and dropping that match into the wood pile, then it will slowly grow to a full fire.

Vehicle Parts: Lets say your putting on a wheel, well, you first have to put down the toolbox and open it, then you have to remove the old wheel (If there is one) and then you will have the slow process of putting in every bolt. Maybe with a system like this you can add the chance of a wheel not properly being put on, and it becomes loose and flies off, just an idea. To combat mishaps there could be higher-grade toolboxes that are sure to get the job done.

Well, there are a few examples!

Not with the field of view currently in DayZ.

I like the animations for running and crawling. They're the same in first an dthird person, and they look fine in third person. If you hold Alt and look around, you can see your body and watch the animation. If the animation was changed to something like a CoD animation, designed to convey the motion from first person, it would look silly in third person, with your guy always holding his gun or his arms right up in front of his face.

hm i saw some interesting vids how to create new anims for skyrim chars the other day only using 3dmax. and it looks quite time-consuming BUT "fairly" easy. i don't know about arma, but if it would be at least similar i could see some potential for a broad range of fan-made anims for all kind of stuff...

Hold down ALT while you run and look down. You should see your weapon moving, Last time I checked, people don't hold guns in front of their face while they run full speed.

I think Arma 3's animations are good, but what is really needed to develop the animations further is to blend between the animations. Look at the ladder climbing animation (in 3rd person) for example... You are standing there in idle.... you press the button to climb... and you teleport on to the ladder... then the actual climbing animation itself is ridiculously jerky and low fidelity. examples of better ways of executing animations can be seen in Batman arkham asylum, MGS ground zero's and the last of us. Something i have suggested before but i know isn't going to happen is euphoria or a similar in house version of that technology. Just look at what euphoria can do...

this transition is surely an engine-given problem and i guess it is very unlikely to see changes concerning that matter.
