Bury survivor to regain humanity

I always bury my dead, but mostly to grief them, not to regain humanity :D

Would be kinda neat if it puts a small cross made from branches on top of a small dirt pile. Would also be interesting if it also puts their backpack and weapon at the base of the cross. You could even 'read' the cross by an action which tells you who was buried (maybe even by whom.)

This would have to be disabled inside buildings I think, and could use a similar clearance checking as the tents (back when tents were actually working anyway.)

I think another thing that could be added is the ability to drag or fireman carry a body to an appropriate burial / disposal location.

I think its a good idea, if you find a random dead survivor, you can loot the body because nobody else has, then bury them to show respect as their death has given you supplies to survive, you did all you could do, thus you gain humanity.

As for bandits killing survivors, losing humanity, then burying them to gain some back, if burying the body took longer than simply hiding it that would definatly balance that out, bandits want to get the kill, get the loot, then get away from the area asap, not a lot of people would stop and go through the procedure of burying the corpse just for a bit of humanity, when good bandits put a fair ammount of planning into attacks, essentially the risk is not worth the reward for a bandit.

Good idea man ;)

Ooh' date=' man.. c'mon. YOu kill a guy to steal his items and burrying him makes you a good guy? Makes you a moral guy? Naah. I is just about your intention when killing someone that makes diff, and this a game can't catch or put on a metter.

It's not like it would completely negate the negative humanity from killing them. People do desperate things in desperate times, and it's completely reasonable to feel guilt for it and at least give the person a proper burial. It's just one more potential layer of immersion for those that take the game as more than a glorified deathmatch.

Plus, this could be a bonus for people that stumble on a fallen survivor if they choose to take the time to bury them. It's not all about killing.

Naah, I disagree.

Ppl ins most of cases kill only for loot. It isn't a desparate measure, since a lot of ppl or are friendly or just asks before shoot.

Generally who shoots first are bandits "with no heart". When you accidentally shoot someone, you try to aid him, not to finish the job with a headshot.

This is a mistake to put something like that on a game/mod like DayZ. It will make the game turns into a MMO like the most of MMO's. You can "farm" reputation/morality. It is something idiot. Let the game follow the line of reality. After killing a lot of ppl, you don't regret in killing one more, it is that way. Or you wont kill anyone.

Way I see it, "hiding" corpses is useful when a survivor or bandit wishes to erase evidence of their presence.

Seeing a bunch of zombie bodies lying around tends to tip people off that something's up.

But, at the same time, it doesn't make much sense to have bodies magically disappear in a game engine that strives for realism.

Perhaps an entrenching tool would give you the option to dig graves, of two varieties.

Shallow graves would allow you to drag multiple nearby corpses within a certain radius, say of around 20 meters for hypothetical purposes. Just walk up to the corpse and the "hide" option would appear, putting all of corpse's stuff into the shallow grave. Doing this nets a small boost in humanity, bout a two digit number.

A shallow grave is quite noticeable when you're standing right on top of it, but it can be easily missed from even a close distance. Anyone with an entrenching tool can loot the shallow grave, but they'd lose humanity in doing so. Again, two digit number.

Shallow graves would last on a server longer than a regular corpse, but certainly not more than one hour.

A decent grave is built with wood and an entrenching tool, taking a little bit longer to construct and only capable of holding a single corpse. But it holds that corpse for a long time, say about two hours. This would be used by those who want to save their dead buddy's stuff after he respawns, a gesture that I feel is underutilized. Just make the grave, go to the body, and click "give decent burial" The grave itself is marked with its occupant's name on a wooden cross headstone, making it a bit more conspicuous and easier to loot. Should the person whose name is on the tomb stone loot it, humanity only drops slightly - 200 or so. Anyone else receives a drop of 1000.

Perhaps, if the coding allows it, it could be that dropping items off at the tomb without removing anything boosts humanity slightly, as if you were leaving gifts for the dead.

Anyway, it would be nice to see makeshift graves every now and again. As well as unmarked ones.

Perhaps mass graves could spawn randomly like crashed helicopters, surrounded by huge amounts of mid to low tier loot.

Anyway, the thing I feel DayZ lacks at times is no middle ground with its mechanics. It's always at one extreme or another, no balance. We either have humanity and end up shooting at anyone with a certain player skin (even if they kill two people in self defense), or we have no humanity and end up shooting at anyone whose not on the same teamspeak channel.

Same with the loot drops. Its either noob trash or so rare you never see it.

Bikes are a good example of middle tier transport. Not a car, but better than walking. Like to see the same thing done with random loot locations (i.e. something like crashed helicopters, but more common and with average-tier loot) and humanity (I hate shooting at everyone save for those on teamspeak. It gets stupid after a while).
