What's your reason to KOS?

Recommended Posts

As we know, there's a ton of KOS (Kill On Sight) within the Day Z community and it's basically universal throughout almost every Role Playing game.

What I want to know is, what is your motive to kill a random person in Day Z?

Do you want to be a bandit?

Do you just like killing?

Why?

I usually don't, but if there is someone with an AS50 or any other sniper that I want, I kill them and take it.

I don't kill on sight, but I often kill. Currently I am only killing people that deserve to be killed.

i usually try to figure out if they are friendly. get close to them and ask them in direct chat and hope for the best, i guess.

not the best way but i don't shoot survivors on sight. only bandits

I reckon out of the first 10 deaths I had, 8 of them were where I naively ran in front of people, often without a weapon, and tried to talk to them and immediately got shot down. I would say if I KOS these days, it is through fear I am about to be KOS'd myself. It is rare that I will just cut someone down without them even knowing I am there.

When I'm rolling with my crew we'll talk it over and decide if we should or not. Never an unarmed/hatchet man though.

When I'm alone though... I don't know, there have been countless times where I was KoS so it's just the fear of someone else pulling the trigger first.

I have a mic so I always say 'Friendly??' if I see someone, but most of the time they don't respond or they aim their gun at me. It's really rare for me to meet a friendly player.

Ah well, DayZ is a group game and release will build more upon this. I'm sticking with my group. I hope there can be some peace between my group and other future groups... but there will always be bandits. And this is a good thing. If everyone cooperated it would be kind of boring. I mean sure, zombies might be fixed and 'life threatening' at that point, but it practically becomes a PvE game, which I came to DayZ for the Survival and PvP aspects.

Do they seem threatening? Shoot them.

Do they have the bandit skin? Shoot them.

Do they have a Ghillie suit? Shoot them.

Do they have a sniper rifle (sniping)? Shoot them.

Did something move? Shoot it.

I will not shoot an unarmed player though.

I only KoS so I don't get KoS'd.

Even after having the server I admin on for over a year, I never shoot first ( unless their a known bandit or openly player killing ), worst you'll get out of me, if you run across me, is telling you to go prone, drop your weapon and face away, do that for the next three minutes ( so I can GTFO ), turn around and I'll shoot, only ever had to shoot one guy, after he dropped his weapon and faced away, he begged me not to kill him, he was trying to find some one to give him blood, so I did, told him to keep facing away, as I was running off he got up and started shooting at me, well, one wasted blood bag

I mainly KoS any armed player that comes too close to me. I've had too many backstabs in the past to trust anyone anymore. Example following.

Looting church in Electro. Hear walking outside closed door. Point my gun at the door. Guy comes in running away from zombies, yells" DON'T SHOOT DON'T SHOOT FRIENDLY!!!". Chill, turn my back to the door and continue looting. Guy shoots me in the head and says "Dude, you didn't say anything..."

I KOS cause I feel like it. Not really for any particular reason.

Seeing your name, I'm not surprised.

I don't KoS. Why? Because the game does not require it, and choice is a good thing. However, if you're looking at me funny in game, following me or waving a bullet launcher my way, I will let you hold two rounds of ammunition ... one in each leg. Funny story. What I don't get are the protracted sub psychological acts of drama some even very experienced players play at. Such as one who announces to the players on his server that he is friendly at the moment - but not always, and not for much longer. Probably another reason I run my own server. Less wacky drama.

Consistency in play style is important. All of this I was a hero but went bad guy drama belongs in a soap opera - not DayZ. Most KoS'ers I've met tend to get real whiny when on the receiving end. I wonder why?

I KOS because you die if you dont. Dayz nowadays is kill or be killed.

... DON'T SHOOT DON'T SHOOT FRIENDLY!!!". Chill, turn my back to the door and continue looting. Guy shoots me in the head and says "Dude, you didn't say anything..."

lol he was right! Why didnt you say anything? There is a saying "no answer, also is an answer"

If I KoS'd you, it was because:

- I was out of cover / concealment when I spotted you and you were both armed and looking in my direction.

- You were moving towards my position in a manner that led me to believe that you were stalking me.

- You had a bandit skin.

- I watched you shot an unarmed player.

- You were going to loot the body of bandit I just shot.

- You didn't respond to direct comms when we encountered each other in the woods and you didn't back away as instructed.

- I was being a dick that day and I took out my frustration with life, the universe and everything on you. Sorry about that.

Typically I KoS because I can't trust the people I run into. More than half of the time I have tried not to KoS the person usually shoots me soon as I stop moving. I'll even get the "I'm friendly hey have you seen XYZ yet I'm looking for that" and when I stop moving to respond I get head shot.

i usually dont. i will go so far as to repeatedly identify myself as a neutral medic and offer assistance. if however there is a known hostile in the area, i might shoot to kill.

btw: i am not the only medic who happens to wear a ghillie and a DMR when going out ;) not every bushwookie is a hostile.

I don't KoS unless I watched them gun down an unarmed player.

Here's another good question. When encountering a stranger, what do you do?

I greet them, ask them if they need any medical aid then I 1. provide said aid or 2. receive bullets in the facial region.

I have to have a reason to shoot someone on sight? Like they might have looked at me wrong or took a step towards me?

How about I KOS because I freaking want to. I hunt people because in this VIDEO GAME it is fun to do.

To the OP...stop trying to be a passive aggressive player who is trying to make those of us who do KOS bad.

How is this for my reason.

When I log into a server, that map is now my territory. You are trespassing on my territory and the penalty for trespassing is death. If I see you on my territory I will shoot you down. All vehicles, loot, zombies, animals, belong to me as they are in my territory.

Dude your post scared me! How is your attitude in real life towards other people? Do you have problems communicating and/or cooperating with other human beeings? Do you have a good communication with your parents or legal guardians? And the most important question: Do you have access to any real guns? :(

If you feel like talking to someone you can pm me any time! ...just joking, your post made me laugh ;)
