Statik (DayZ) 2695 Posted April 22, 2013 I'm not sure if there's been a post like this in the past, but if not, here goes.In reality, no matter what size ruck, no rifle will fit inside (something such as an M4 or AK might if you break it down.). So what I'm suggesting is, instead of placing weapons inside your backpack, just shoulder them.It would also make things a lot more accessible to have two weapons readily available than one. person915 345 Posted April 22, 2013 *looks at coyote and czech backpack*I'm pretty sure I could fit some guns in there. But oh, what do I know? You should go to your nearest military surplus store, buy ALL the backpacks in DayZ, and try it with your whatevergunyouhappentohave.Post pics! :
taco241 393 Posted April 22, 2013 It's really cumbersome shouldering two rifles. they bang all over the place.I personally do put a rifle in my own pack when on some northern adventure. My Marlin 1895 can easily be strapped to the side of the pack via bungees or whatever I have handy, or if I have room, I stuff it in and let the muzzle poke out. If I need it to be somewhat handy, then yeah I carry it on a 2 point sling in an african carry. there are lots of bags out there that offer rifle packing options.
DemonGroover 8836 Posted April 22, 2013 Strapping large guns to a backpack is much more realistic than shoving one inside. Handguns and small weapons sure but putting a Lee Enfield in a small backpack seems a bit ridiculous.I also think the current change over (backpack weapon > primary swap) is too easy as well. Taking out an AK, swapping it over with a DMR that is in your backpack shouldn't be a 3 second job.

Would be a neat little animation I think.

So even the ability to strap it to the outside (Like Demon suggested) would be a lot better then running around with two 48-57" guns tucked nice and neatly into your Coyote pack. -Guardian- 206 Posted April 23, 2013 Realistically youd be able to break down virtually any weapon of this era and place the pieces in a backpack with the barrel being the only thing to be an issue.then again breaking down a weapon completely is a job that takes at least 5 - 10 seconds for the most experienced and trained people. not to mention placing the items into your pack, which you wouldnt want to just toss in. dutch_miller 159 Posted April 23, 2013 I can't remember who suggested this as it was quite a while ago, but there was an idea for a backpack addition that I liked. Essentially, some real backpacks have a rifle sheath-like section specifically for this. Adding these kinds of backpacks would increase the variety of backpacks, because while they might not have the most space, they can carry an extra weapon.Anything that forces you to make a decision like that is a plus for DayZ in my book.
-Gews- 7443 Posted April 23, 2013 Honestly I'm not sure why someone would decide to carry two rifles and ammunition every day, especially big heavy battle rifles. I don't know why someone would want to be weighed down with an extra 10-15 lbs just in case they need a slightly different gun.I don't know what can be done about the invisible guns in backpacks. Since this is a mod, I'm guessing not much.Anyways, that got me thinking... does DayZ take the weight you're carrying into account when deciding how often you need to eat and drink? If not, it should. Movement affects thirst and hunger, carrying weight would add greatly to the physical exertion.
OrLoK 16186 Posted April 23, 2013 Hello thereNot a common item though, Hets.Surly a longer time to simulate rummaging or unstrapping would be more realistic for most cases. Most folk would be assumed to using bits of string/rope/cloth/cheese rather than the latest quick release Grom approved straps on a custom carrier. So there...RgdsLoK

Hetstaine 10852 Posted April 23, 2013 (edited) lol... It may be over padded though ;)I would definitely agree P Lo 'Lo-K ..being able to simply strap a rifle to your pack would be easy. Edited April 23, 2013 by orlok fixed
OrLoK 16186 Posted April 23, 2013 I think strapping should take a little time as those pesky rifles are heavy and tend to tilt over your pack and cause sagging. It should be possible though, just not a 3 second job.Perhaps removing a stored rifle should be fairly fast 10 secs or so, but replacing it in pack should take a minute. (not realistic times but a long time "in game"RgdsLoK
mushroom911 14 Posted April 23, 2013 With the new inventory system item space will be a tad more realsitic. If you have played arma 3 you can see where I am coming from, Item unit space count varies alot more than OA.F.Example in OA every primary weapon takes 10 slots in the backpack which is rediculous, space and weight wise an mp5 is nowhere near as heavy / large as an m107 (altough there is talk the m107 and as50 wont be in the standalone).............................................but there is alot more variation in the standalone....
