Long time fan and player, faith in SA and Rocket is gone.

Recommended Posts

This is my very first post on these forums, so I apologize in advance for it being so negative. I'm not normally active of forums for any game that I play, but it's some time I must let my voice be heard when it comes to this one in particular.

DayZ for me started as this wonderful experience involving patience, fear, anxiety, and a little bit of luck. It blended these feelings so perfectly into the overall experience that it made me feel like when I played in DayZ, I was playing in a different and almost real world. We all know this feeling, at least most of us do. Sandbox games that balance luck and skill well always give this feeling.

Hackers. Yeah we all know now, whitelisted servers are the way to go. Problem is they aren't as populated, they don't switch maps often, and they are far and few between. Sometimes you can find a white-listed server that's populated on certain days or in certain time zones, but that doesn't help the late night gamer or gamer that's in a different time zone. Bottom line here and my point of this paragraph is to say whitelisting is annoying and I'd like to play without worrying about hackers or whitelists.

Rocket. He's a class act. I've been listening to him for a year now, go left and right on his decision making, giving more information verbally than visually, making claims with verbal confidence in which lacks visual confirmation; he's a mess for a lead game designer, really. There was no real structure to porting DayZ over to a standalone game. When times got tough and Rocket realized he was approaching an ill-conceived deadline with nothing to show for it, he went on about his map designers being sent to prison and making a new decision to use parts of the new engine (most notably the take-on helicopters engine). Really, when two of your employees or co-workers go to prison, you get people to replace them. It's simple. Rocket made the situation sound so complicated. It really wasn't, it just takes a lead video game designer with humility to come out and say:

"I'm sorry, we never gave an accurate deadline in terms of realistic game development. In fact, we weren't even close to providing enough extra content in DayZ to warrant selling it separate from a free-to-download mod that's already out. This fact along with our legal troubles affecting our development cycle leads us to come out and say we have no idea when this game will be released, as it's not even built. The engine needs tweaking, some systems need complete overhauls, and we have a functioning video game mod to base our new design on. This game is early in development, that's the least we can tell you."

Yes, it takes serious humility to admit that your development team has been slacking major balls (despite how proud they are of their work, or rather, how proud Rocket is of his teams work, which is pretty much used as a diversion tactic from having to explain how he has shit to show for progress in the every-month-and-a-half update he decides to throw down to us).

I'm certain there are hard working individuals working on DayZ SA, as I am equally as certain there aren't enough of them.

The video update rocket showed a couple months back showing new animations and such was ridiculously lax in content and it was obvious Rocket spent less than an hour preparing for it. It really showed us nothing but work on map changes that he himself didn't even do. Rocket, how about you show us something you came up with and YOU have been working on? When you get back from your Mt. Everest festivities, of course.

After getting tent hacked a hundred times (when they use navigation hacks to find your tent), having dozens of characters deleted for no reason, getting killed by weapons that admins hack in for their friends, and dealing with the basic nonsense of the DayZ mod for about a year now. I quit. In fact I haven't played DayZ in weeks already. So I guess I got a head start.

I'm just here to say farewell and I hope you don't fall for Rocket's bullshit as I once did. I hope SA comes out this year and I hope it's amazing. I will play SA once it is out, but I will no longer listen to a word from Rocket and I have lost faith in this development team to deliver anything that they promise when it comes to SA.

...there are plenty of whitelisted servers that are always populated, at plenty of different times. Obviously you haven't looked well enough.

As I stated, my point was that dealing with whitelisting is annoying, especially 5 months after DayZ SA was promised to be released.

If they happen everyday, that tells you something about the Rocket.

I like how people have no valid argument vs. my point, rather they take offense, spew out insults due to being obviously butthurt because their beloved forum isn't a rosy posy love fest for rocket and instead consists of some notably intelligent people making real and just critique of a poorly managed development cycle.

No offense.

Still, there are plenty of public servers that have great anti-hack and constantly active admins.

This is hardly a point, for you don't know Rocket personally, nor do you know his relationship with the two that went with prison.

Here comes the Rocket defense force. The original post is a sincere expression of disappointment that will inevitably be trolled under the rug as to make sure no one pays attention.

Jesus christ. You sound like a fucking conspiracy theorist. Rocket has no reason to "bullshit" us. He doesn't have to say anything, and we'd all still patiently wait. I don't give a flying shit why it's taking so long. It'll be out when it's out, as long as it's perfect when it does, I don't care when that is.

I like how people have no valid argument vs. my point,

Oh, no, it's not that we don't have one, it's that we're not repeating it for the 200th time, since this is literally a carbon copy of every single QQ thread we get daily. And you could argue that if there are so many, clearly something is wrong, then I could argue that there are hundreds more posts that argue the opposite, which speaks volumes more. Obviously, you're just going to dismiss them as "whiny fanboys", but if we do the same to you, it's because we're butthurt, right? The lack of logic in your posts makes me glad you're not active.

Lol, bye, we all know you'll buy the SA anyway.

I stated that I would. Do you actually read or do you skim through and reply based on your own inability to properly make out the point of the topic in front of you?

How about you post something that isn't speculation or outright bullshit then?

Well that sucks.

Didn't even read the OP.

Have a nice life, I hope you can fill the amount of time you spent writing this with twice as much happiness, so, you know, it'll be worth a damn. You writing this, that is.

OMG ROCKETZ GIEF US STANDALONEZZZ!!!!!11111!!!111

Actually, I don't really care much right now. When it's done, I'll buy it and play. There are plenty of other games to play, and the mod is enough for me anyway. Especially Origins.

I'm fairly certain that most, if not all devblog updates show pictures of the feature they are discussing in the article, unless it's in its rawest form, far from completion, or if there's no new features announced. If there's no pictures, there's usually videos. Sometimes there's both.

So, yes.

How is Origins? Back when I played a couple months ago, the island was kind of broken and so was the loot. Fixed I assume? Better experience than DayZ?

Much better. You can now build your own houses and garages to store gear and cars in. I'm not even playing DayZ anymore, just Origins.

Your response to those who rebutte[edit, I never finished the sentence and now I can't remember what I was going to say.]

This.

All devblog videos show pretty much exactly what is in the devblog.

I'll agree to disagree. I think they are rather lax and deceiving.

I'm going to have to check this out!

You should definitely do that. I was feeling kinda like you right now, and gave up on DayZ. Then I checked out Origins, and now I'm playing every day, probably more than I should :D

The reason for this is the new engine. They've pretty much made an entirely new engine to prevent hacking. That's what's taking so long.

When Rocket designed DayZ, I'm fairly sure he wasn't on a mission to put ArmA 2 CO back on Steams top seller list. Now, as for "ERMAGERD STANDALONE IZ L4TE, S0 Rocket is Soz B4D".

1. If the DayZ Dev team didn't rolled back the release date, we would have DayZ SA right now. Except it would be a polished version of the mod, thus meaning same problems with hacking/scripting (this has been said in previous threads), so with the later release date, we are going to get a fully functional, REMADE game.

2. Yes, two of Rockets employees, went to prison. Now, you could be a heartless bastard and replace them, or you could not be a heartless bastard. And like Inception said, you don't know his relationship with them.

3. As for your whitelisting horse shit, it's not complicated, nor is it a big deal. You could either be a lazy individual who is too lazy to get whitelisted on something such as Balota Buddies, or BMRF, and decides to start a flame war because your game isn't out yet. How hard can it really be to go to a website (you don't even need to type "www." anymore, so it's WAAAAY faster), send them your GUID (easily obtained) and await an email. And AGAIN, like Inception said before, there are many public and private hives that don't have whitelisting, but have great anti-hack/admins.

So go ahead, curse rocket, start a flame war. Regardless of what you do on your way out the door, you won't be missed.

Hey we all get a little fatigued by one game eventually. Pick up some new titles, have a coke, put on a smile and get back when the SA is out.

I haven't played in a few weeks myself but I'm sure the final product will be sweet. They can take their time and get it right. Now, back to some Chivalry:Medieval Warfare!

On the note of the (wrongfully) imprisoned devs.

Rocket does not own/run BI (whom the two in question work for), he does not decide who to hire and who to fire. The two men who were imprisoned were imprisoned basically because Arma 3 features Greece. It would have been bad form for their employers to part ways with them when it was ultimately their relationship with their employers that got them into their situation. Also, games in which dev-teams change mid-development tend to have the marks of two different minds approaching a topic.

Furthermore, the game can be released next year and would still have a development time shorter than some triple-A titles.
