Civilian Items, Weapons, and Bandages

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have searched for a topic similar to this but still haven't seen anything related to this. My idea is to add more civilian weapons, for example, make bolt action rifles spawn more common, add lower caliber weapons such as 22. caliber rifles or pistols, and make the hunting stands not spawn military grade weapons but more like hunting rifles. Next, more civilian items, I have realized when looking at NVG goggles that there are 1-3 (4 if you count the newest version) generations of NVGs. I would like to see lower generations for NVGs because not every time you will find 3rd Generation goggles. (For those who don't know the differences between NVGs I suggest looking here: http://www.atncorp.c...ightvisionworks.) Thirdly, military grade bandages used to treat gunshot wounds aren't commonly found in the everyday household. I think that those bandages should spawn in hospitals, military tents, barracks, ect. and bed sheets/curtains/fabric can be used for normal bandages but it will have a higher chance of sickness. Last, I believe that certain wounds require larger or smaller wounds, for example, a zombie scrape doesn't need a HUGE bandage, yet surviving a helicopter crash may not only take one huge bandage but many huge bandages and when you right click on a bandage it would say something like this: Bandage, [body part] , [How badly it seems, Okay, Bad, Horrible]. Well that's all and I would now love to hear some opinions on my ideas, positive or negative.

Could work, I wouldn't pick them up though, they'd be too weak to kill a player without a headshot.

They already did this, I had to completely change my loot runs.

6.5x55 please.

Chernarussian are farmers, not many are hunters. The rest are workers.

I would make cities have an abundance of pistols, some farms have shotguns, and some homes (that aren't farms) have rifles.

I would also track loot displacement on military movement in effect of trying to stem the infection including guns, ammo, and equipment.

The primary focus of weapons outside the city should be in hoes, scythes, machetes, pitchforks, and other forms of melee weapons. Slingshots, maybe? Things of that nature.

Considering Chernarus is was a Soviet state, I highly doubt you'd find handguns in urban areas, that are owned by civilians.

Maybe not legal handguns. Handguns are illegal in Russia but some ex-KGB agents were given engraved Makarovs and still carry them, etc... etc. I expect during a zombie apocalypse all these illegal guns would very quickly come out from hiding.

And of course, this isn't Russia, so the same rules do not necessarily apply.

Yup, I think of it as a poor country similar to those in Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Caucasus, etc...

That reminds me, a lot of people think of Takistan as Afghanistan, so do I, but while watching coverage of the Boston bombings I saw the bomber's uncle talk about Dagestan, and he pronounced it extremely similar to "Takistan"... coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.

Dagestan village vs Takistan village:

Unrelated but interesting.

While not strictly russian, here's some examples of some "Improvised" weapons.

Gotta love those Chechens for their ingeniuty and prowess in creating home-made guns:

A variety of home-made full auto only sub-machine guns and uzi style semi-automatic handguns

EDIT:

In addition to rifles and shotguns, the most prevelant and possible most common "pistols" amongest Russians would likely be revolvers in a high caliber as a defence against wild animals. .357 Magnum or .44 magnum is possible

Hey, in ex-soviet country easy to find is a airgun. I know what you think but this is cheap and pellets can buy at the market. Many people in east europe have e.g airguns brands Baikal (russian), Slavia (czech) and Hatsan (turkish). Another guns what you find in this country is a replica muskets and revolvers of the period American Civil War (typical shop whit this gun in east europe precisely in Poland http://www.saguaromi...ex.php?k16,bron ) and lefaucheux shotgun ( in parts of post communist country you can buy this shotgunwithout a police permit). I dont kwow why no one posted what it looks like in these countries without stereotypes ?

P.S

In school in schools can be found 0.22 weapons and costumes of NBC because in all Warsaw Pact all the people were ready to repel in schools, ,,imperialist invasion of NATO " it is called (this is still the subject in schools today, but learns how to perform first aid and what to do in the course of events, but I still have to learn what to do when there is contamination radioactive, chemical and disease and you can still shoot a little .22 LR and run whit a gas mask on the face ;) ) Prepare Defense. People in Chernarus which had not been so unprepared if it can be assumed

Well since I am on a mobile device I can't reply directly to comments but I also would LOVE to get a Mosin Nagrant, that gun sadly was mass produced and so many copies exist that it would be easy to get ammo/ammunition, also, the gun would have to jam occasionally because they were still mass produced...

Well, if you want to really go with something about the amount of weapons in Chernarus. If we still follow about from the campaign in Harvest Red, Invasion, American forces pull out. Russian Army take over peacekeeping Operations. There are also Chedaki insurgents and NAPPA(I think) rebel fights. If we use that storyline because well. Those are events in the history Chernarus. Just sayin' you could put a little spin with that to justify a little bit of variations in the weaponry. .. :)

Yes, story can be added for timelines sake, that these events happened in it's history, so there could be a weapons caches and other weapons lost in previous conflicts. Other wise, should only see Russian and area specific weapons and ammunition, and maybe some imported/smuggled/criminal weapons that have been used, but the previous owners, well died. Know what I mean? DayZ needs a little more story as to why we can find some of these weapons. Something that happened in the countries past? Ect, didn't themes could be used.

Probably western weapon in Chernarus were owned by the police and border protection forces (ex soviet country acts as the border guards) , bodyguards agency and chernarus army, and western armies trying to control the epidemic

Laws on possession and carrying of the weapons isn't similar in these countries. Some examples, in Moldova and in the Baltic States possession and carrying of handguns is legal. If person have licence ofcourse. IIRC, in Georgia (country) is legal to have handgun, but prohibited carrying.

Also i suggest to remove from Chernarus AK-47(AKM). Almost all these was exchanged for AK-74 (5.45x39) in ex-soviet countries even in 70th years previous century. Is some AKM used by police forces on North Caucasia, but these are relatively little number.

And AK-74 could be found in prisons etc.

Instead AKM in game might be civilian analogue - semi-automatic "Saiga" or "Vepr" in calibers 7.62x39 and .223 or more rare 7.62×54R.

But story DayZ is not connected to the plot of ARMA II.

But it's still not a western country where you find AS50, Armalites or DMRs all over the place...well Coke and that stuff as well...

Not all Ex-Soviet states replaced their AKMs, and even the ones that did still have many in reserve/police/other unit operations. It's a very common worldly rifle (Part of the most produced series of guns ever) and honestly it shouldn't be 'replaced'. Assuming that the world map is based off of the entire Arma franchise, AK's a very common in the surrounding regions (Takistan and whatnot)

At least SOME AKMs would appear after the apocalypse, especially in a poorer region where high-tech guns don't exist. There are millions of them around the planet, and desperate civilians or military officials racing to arm with effective weaponry could easily turn to the high-caliber and reliable AKM before any other gun.

Well maybe there could be a house in Cherno or Elecktro or some northern area with military spawns because it was a smuggler house of something.

Also, if an epidemic happens where people are attacked by "infected" individuals such as zombies that are eating their friends, the government may hand out assault weapons to the public as a last ditch effort. The only reason I think of this is because of this iPhone application called Plaque Inc. I probably am wrong but just an idea.

Also, why is no one talking about the NVG's. Is that a good idea or not? (This is just a quick ask question not a divert the entire topic so far question.)

IMO, I agree with you. Night Vision Goggles almost really shouldn't appear at all. Even as rare as they are, you can still find quite a few (I've had around 6 on Official Chernarus servers).

Though I don't think they should be removed, as they are a great endgame item, their spawn rates should be lowered and their penultimate status will be reduced by the improved vision at night time in the SA.
