Anyone else worried about locking down graphical options to the server in SA?

Recommended Posts

I don't like stuff like post processing, I don't like FXAA or any other kinds of AA that isn't MSAA and I don't like bloom or HDR or fog. I mean I hate it enough how Dayz puts so much fog everywhere, like seriously it makes the game look really ugly. I hate how I have to be forced into HDR now too, it makes the game look worse and causes so many issues when in forests in the game. I just wanna be able to turn all the shit off that I hate, I don't want servers telling me what I can and cannot have.

Agree on PP for starters, i don't see how they will able to lock it down graphically though.

I am sure you will be able to turn of bloom, etc.

It will still be a beautiful game no matter what I have to do to It. no Matter what Settings I have to put it on I will Play this game with Dedication

I will support It all the way

_Cheers_

it will make the game fair

i have to play on low settings (I am upgrading now and i could play better if it was not for city's)

but i have also played on a friends PC that is better than mine (not for long lol)

and i found on a better pc hiding tents under trees works, but on my pc the leaves fade out WAY before the tent,

I have had ago at wasteland and found that i was getting sniped by people i can't see because they are beyond my draw distance

If everyone on a server has the same setting the every thing is 100% fair

Fair, perhaps, except for those who can't run the settings.

The fog isn't always there, you know...I've been able to see for at least two kilometers before fog took its place before.

In which case they should upgrade their computers. The whole point of technology is that people have to keep up with it or get left behind. Sure there are some games out there that a really old computer can run, but they prolly had to get new computers at the time in order to play it (especially if that game was using the latest tech). Should someone with 10 year old computer be able to keep up with someone who just custom built one yesterday? Not really. Not if the new computer is using some of the latest tech.

If you dont meet the specifications then you shouldnt be complaining when you cant play the game.

This is why we have consoles. They are a standardised system spec for anyone to just buy, plug in and play. PCs are a different beast. The specifications of games are always changing. You either keep up or get left behind.

Depends on the max. render distance set by the server. For the vast majority it's 1600m in DayZ.

Also, in DayZ standalone render distance is the only graphical setting set by the server. The rest you are able to set yourself.

And if they can't afford upgrading?

Then they dont play the game. Or they can play the game and their performance takes a hit. Its not about what we would like. I think it would be awesome if everyone everywhere could play every game ever made on their computers. But the reality is that this is not possible. Oh I wanted to play FF14 a few years back, but my computer was old and failing. You know what I did? Nothing. I couldnt upgrade because I didnt have the money. You know what I did do? I sucked it up and played a laggy mess. I eventually lost interest and stopped playing.

As I said. This is why we have consoles. You see a console. You see a game for said console. You know for a fact that the game will work on it. PC are a different beast entirely. You have to look at the games specification and compare it to your own PC's specification. If you dont meet those specifications then you are taking a gamble.

If you dont have a computer that meet's the continually growing specifications of games, then you cant really complain when you get left behind. This is why stores arnt still selling Super Nintendo's, Amiga's, Ataris and Sega Genesis - the technology progressed. You either kept up, or you got left behind. This is an ongoing process.

Except DayZ isn't on consoles, lol.

I was never arguing against what you were saying. I was merely saying to Tubbs that it isn't 100% fair to those who can't run the settings as well as others.

You could always turn the resolution down.

well lowering everything down ruins the experience so why play a game with a crappy pc? at low frames. unless you're an absolute fan boy.

Because they want to play the game?

Having a really low resolution looks horrible. Haha.

Maybe for those who are used to flashy graphics  the fanciest game I'd ever played prior to ArmA was from 2005...

the pc side of things is harder than the console side of things but worth it.

The HDR is a complete and utter joke, as well as the bloom. If I can't turn both off I will be very very unhappy. HDR causes MASSIVE eye strain when in forests... FFS not even realistic

The bloom effect has been toned down massively in the standalone and as I said above - if the current SA server is anything to go by then the only setting that's locked is the render distance.

The forced HDR is x10 more annoying than bloom though

That reminds me, I hate over-processed HDR...

Motion blur effects are the worst for me though.

I agree that if I want to spend my hard earned money on upgrading my PC then there should be a tangible benefit to doing so. I should not be held back in terms of graphics display because someone else does not have as a good a PC. I understand it is frustrating from your end and you may not have a job/be old enough to earn your own money, but if you put the effort into building a great setup, you should be able to reap the rewards and not be penalised for other people not having one.

The only thing I don't get though is why they're going CPU heavy, surely it makes more sense to go GPU heavy like a BF3 or Crysis 3. Those games barely take a toll on your CPU, they just kill your GPU and as a result they look amazing and run amazing. Surely the GPU can handle a lot of the tasks they have running on the CPU, GPUs are like 100 times more powerful than the CPUs we have.

I just don't see where toll on the CPU is coming from either though tbh, there isn't a lot happening. More is happening in a game of BF3 for example with 64 players and all the destruction and the map that is rendered at any one time is probably about the same size as what you can see in Dayz.

I just think the engine is poorly made.

Well, duh. ARMA engine is notorious for being a horribly optimized POS ^^

Its the zombie AI that needs the CPU, but that should be much less of a problem in the standalone as its going to be redone specially for brain dead loonies rather than specially trained soilders. (which is what the current AI is)

Anywho, where does it say they are going to lock HDR and Bloom? thought it was just view distance and object/terrain details that they wanted to lock down.
