Second map for DayZ:SA idea

Recommended Posts

I thought we would put Stockholm into DayZ for once.

Stockholm (The area I painted out) is about 187km²

So a little bit bigger than chernarus. The island is filled with not only buildings, there are big forests in many areas, and has 1 big airport. There is one island maybe as big as Utes right on the coast.

Do you think this would be a great map? On this map there's not only "being on the coast, or being in the woods" like in chernarus. Since there are smallers cities everywhere around the map. You do not have to run so far just to get to one place since all cities are pretty tight and would cause pretty cool PvP fights everywhere. And as I said there are many big forests to create camps in and keep vehicles.

Back on topic please.

dayZ SA will be on chernarus... thought that was pretty common knowledge... Maybe not for a swede.

Seems like "offtopic" is the topic here.

@serious stan: he said "second map"

But @ Topic: I think rocket mentioned something about a western-style map that is planned as a second map for dayZ. I do hope tough, that the "we only care about the US market" philosophy of some companies doesn't reach bohemia and it will be a european city.

As most european cities grew over the centuries, it's more likely that they will choose an american or eastern-european City, as they usually contain less different buildings. (As they were constructed in a shorter timespan).

If you ever walked through old cities like London, Paris, Vienna, Amsterdam, etc. You will notice that there are buildings with several hundred years of history between them, standing next to each other. Many more modern cities, like in many eastern-european states, have been built over a few decades, showing almost the same buildings all over the city.

Even if I'd love to play in an old city with a mix of old and new buildings, people would complain if they took 2 years of development just because they wanted 100.000 different buildings in the map. If you have to build one house and you can cover 10 km2 with it, you can work much more efficiently.

tl;dr: the best cities to play in are the most complex ones, the maps easiest to develop, are the least complex ones. They will probably try to find a good mix.

Maybe, but for the next map, I want something pretty radically different from Chernarus.

It says "second map" in the title... Maybe you could pay a little more attention to the title next time

That's what makes these type of countries so interesting....the same design all over the place. But we also have a place in Germany with soviet influence and lot's of buildings built the same way...the former GDR. I don't know of an american place except barracks where they have the same building everywhere.

The bigger cities agreeably have more diversity. But especially the suburb-buildings of the last decades sometimes cover huge areas, looking almost the same. That's less common elsewhere.

Problem is bigger the maps is. More it might look the same or repeat it self , just look at chenarus, same forest , same market, same firestation, same house... but if you want each part to be unique and on a big map with many town and it gonna take time/effort and maybe alot of space if you want every (amost every) building unique and fitting the area.

Making everything unique or that dont repeat it self too much, It would take a shit ton of time and effort (it would be awesome but still)
