Calanen 2 Posted April 10, 2013 Teamspeak is not cheating now more than a squad of people with guns in an apocalypse with radios is 'cheating'. That a squad has some form of communication would be far from uncommon.
iegle 117 Posted April 10, 2013 You spawn with a bandage and a bottle of painkillers in a small pack. Sophisticated two-way radio equipment is so self-evidently available that it does not even appear in your inventory, akin to your shoes, or hat?
Calanen 2 Posted April 10, 2013 The primary source of communication would be talking to people near you, or using hand signals. You just cant do that because of the game mechanics. The next way would be with two way radios. If your point is, people need to 'find' the radio before they can communicate with each in game - maybe. But you'd never be able to stop people from talking to each other, whether from a computer adjacent or via telephone on skype, teamspeak, ventrllo or whatever. My only point was, guys with guns having communications is not unrealistic at all.

Mr Nasty 1023 Posted April 10, 2013 I am roasting from the flames in this thread. Anyone want a piece of Mr Nasty, extra crispy?
Mr_Clean187 23 Posted April 11, 2013 Duplication glitches were patched out of the game because players used it to gain an unfair advantage over other players. That was considered cheating. Is TS different? And to clarify and rectify the situation with a few of the above posters, I don't have a problem with TS/Skype/whatever being on while you. My problem is TS being on while you play so that you can communicate with other DayZ players, who are in the game with you, so that you can communicate as a team in a manner which is impossible for legitimate players. You can talk to someone; you just shouldn't do it for cheat reasons, like cross-map coordination.Screw third party programs. If my brother and I are playing DayZ together in the same room, and are just using REAL-LIFE direct communications to talk, is that still cheating? This thread is basically lol.
EliteSkittle 59 Posted April 11, 2013 Nice to see that at least all of it wasn't flame and some people actually had good responses.I somewhat, agree with you. Let me explain. When it comes to using Teamspeak, Skype or even Ventrilo, its basically just a walkie talkie or a radio the person has. If there was a server that banned third party programs yes I would play on it. Sometimes. Other times I like to get on Dayz with my friends we all kill ourselves wherever were standing or kill each other or whatever. But I digress, so we die. And then we just talk have fun gear up and play together for a few hours. And some of the coordination we do such as me on overwatch, another on vehicle standby, would all be impossible without Vent. BUT that is is the point you may say. Well I say, we found some radio's. I took the walkie off a dead soldier and so did my friends. We found batteries. Suddenly we can talk over a long distance. Now, people jumping to the forums and asking for help, I agree completely bitch move yes. But I cannot see a way to stop that.
_Anubis_ (DayZ) 139 Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) Please stop with these BS posts. Using TeamSpeak and Skype maybe isn't realistic, but it certainly isn't "cheating" or giving you an unfair advantageCheating is too strong a word but of course you get an advantage if you use TS/Skype/.. over Direct Comm chat because Z do not react to that, which is *unfair* toward players using DC and sticking to vanilla. We may debate forever but I would simply remove the Z aggro in the game due to speaking and level the playfield. It is a game after all._Anubis_ Edited April 11, 2013 by _Anubis_
amit 33 Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) I think the issue here is that the OP needs some friends to play with. It's a shitty situation, I'll admit, but games do change and unfortunately for the solo experience, you'll have to accept that most other people will have at least one or more advantage against you. There's no possible way to restrict the use of TS and other systems for external communication short of locking the player out of the game until everything else on the player's system that has access to the internet is closed. And who would enjoy that? All for an authentic solo experience? At what point does the fun become outweighed by frustration due to the harshness of the game? It's cool that friends can group up within the game to play authentically, but this is DayZ. It takes hours to get back to the state that your friend and you were playing in when one of you died or whatever. Dying happens very frequently and it would be irritating beyond belief to put so much effort in to get only frustration in return. Better to just upgrade to external comms, such as TS, and change your fun to a different type, but at least you'll still be having fun instead of hating the game. Element47 2481 Posted April 11, 2013 Now, people jumping to the forums and asking for help, I agree completely bitch move yes. But I cannot see a way to stop that.a rather early suggestion for the mod was the ability to leave persistent notes in the game for other players. ingame implementation of course poses certain problems, thats where the (moderated) forums present a good compromise. paper and pencils are a rather common good, epecially in low tech rural areas the likes of chernarus.History has quite a few precedents of low tech societies posting handwritten notes in public places like church doors to communicate and organize, dating back to 17th century and the advent of common literacy. Other notable examples were coded messages used by resistance movements in both world wars and by opposition movements in opressive states, recent examples include movements in former socialistic block and in southern america. So no, forums are actually a pretty realistic feature, representing such mechanisms which would surely emerge in a postapocalyptic setting.

Zombie Jesus 723 Posted April 11, 2013 A bunch of nonsense. What justifies it, it is a game. Find like minded individuals if you want a server that fits all of your needs, otherwise stop being the guy who thinks all of his views are always correct. Variety is the spice of life, find your niche and leave everyone else alone.
