Dekkymane 145 Posted March 29, 2013 Ok, I have played this game for about nearly a week now. I still consider my self new although I know pretty much everything about the game now. So I am in cherno, fresh spawned and I found a nice shotgun, Then in chat a guy says he needs a blood bag, and seen as the fact im not a KoS idiot I say sure I've got some blood bags, and told him i'll be there in a bit. so after i've finished looting cherno im using the road from cherno to electro and my survivor was getting hungry so I stop to eat pasta, and all of a sudden I hear an engine, turn around and BOOM i go flying because some douche ran me over and all I had was a shotgun with 1 mag. Sweet. So I start again pretty angry and head to elektro and go into the firestation, loot a drink and BANG, sniped by a lee enfield from about 90 meters. So then a few days later I get nicely equipped, seen a guy getting chased by zombies at in some town in the north part of chernarus. I take the zombies out with my gun and he says "Thanks, need a blood transfusion?" Me, sure yes please. While he gives me it he swiftly takes out his gun and sprays me dead. tl;dr, everyone wants to kill me, this game no longer has teamwork, it's just a deathmatch. dayz247 59 Posted March 29, 2013 Depends on the server you are playing on my friend.Every server develops its own little community, and while death match is prevalent on many, its not so on all.
colekern 1364 Posted March 29, 2013 (edited) To me, it doesn't seem like you you're being very smart. Walking around Cherno like its nothing? Yeah, you're gonna get sniped, its a kill zone. Letting a random guy bloodbag at you without even checking him for weapons? Again, not smart. Stopping to eat on one the most widely traveled roads in the game? Not very smart. You're setting yourself up to get shot in the face. No offence, you just gotta learn from your mistakes. This I agree with, but I've tried so many servers now it there is no diffearence. Maybe I should just shoot on sight from now on. Maybe people will change in the standalone, who knows. Target Practice (DayZ) 1335 Posted March 29, 2013 Shooting on sight solves nothing and in fact makes the problem worse. Colekern got it right when he said that a lot of your deaths are simply from poor decisions that you'll learn from in the long run. There are always going to be untruatworthy players in DayZ, and most of us wouldn't have it any other way - it adds to the danger and fun.You just need time to develop that sense of when something's a trap and when it's not, and the more you play, the better that instinct becomes. Also, get the hell out of Cherno and Elektro. They're deathtraps - get inland as soon as possible and you'll find things considerably better.

What I meant by that is know where all the military camps are, know how to get nicely equipped and gearing all of that. But my playstyle is still in construction. lol. Either way from now on I am a KoS. I give up on being freindly.

Petunia-Server 10 Posted March 29, 2013 Don't lose heart! Not all servers are full of KoS style players!Just keep trying different servers, make a note of the server, and what the play style seems to be like...It shouldn't take too long to find one that's to your liking!Ok, I have played this game for about nearly a week now. _Anubis_ (DayZ) 139 Posted March 29, 2013 Look for private servers since the users are always the same. Some private servers have a relaxed ans mature population, some more KoS oriented/raging.Leave the coast and go North for a while to get better gear and more experience, avoid contacts for a while._Anubis_
nox81 28 Posted March 29, 2013 I've only been playing a week or so too and I had a bit of a rude awakening myself on this game on one particular server where everyone was worse than a kos twat, they were kos, scream down the mic, tea bag you, shoot you in the leg and then satchel charge you type of assholes (that actually happened). I spawned new on one life and in 15 seconds some guy with a bandit skin has ran up to me with a pistol and shot me dead, he was waiting it seemed for someone to spawn. i've also agreed to meet someone to do a blood transfusion while unarmed and the guy just killed me for fun.I tried a few servers and have one where there is little kos play, its a more considered pace and people get on more, sure sometimes theres a bit of bandit action but word spreads on the server and it kinda adds to the excitment as its not the norm. The 'deathmatch' type servers are lame and barely skim the surface of what this game can be.But as someone said, the last thing i'd do is hang around elektro and cherno on a busy server, and walking the road between them? thats probably the deadliest road of all. roger 3 Posted March 30, 2013 This is quite a large debate, sure it depends on the server but I generally try not to trust anyone unless I have spoken with them on skype/or played with them before. I myself am not a KoS idiot... unless you are a bandit.
Crazy one 124 Posted March 30, 2013 I'm new to this game, played for approx 40 or 50 hours, iv'e already learnt stay away from cherno and Elektro, well Elektro is not bad but bad enough, so as soon as i spawn i head inland Zelenogorsk etc etc ,or i go way up to the north coast to Berezino, there are plenty of towns/cities that do have supermarkets and other lootable places.Hell i spawned once got shot within 1 minute
_Anubis_ (DayZ) 139 Posted March 30, 2013 (edited) Good strategy. Grab an hatchet and wherever you are, head straight to Berezino and NEAF - pretty much desolated places but you can find there everything and depending on where you spawn you can always hit a town with a supermarket (2 in Berezino).Once I spawned near Balota, had a quick check there and made one big run to Berezino with a single stop in Polana to get food._Anubis_ Edited March 30, 2013 by _Anubis_

I consider Cherno and Elektro crap spawns as it's always a gun battle waiting for you. Or if your unlucky, spawn campers. So you die before you even fully spawn into the world. You could jump on my server, US 99, which is mainly under populated or has no one in it. But it's just a suggestion. "Shameless plug!!!" Shame on me :)Once you played enough, you'll laugh at every death, then carefully think about what you could have done better if you may have done something wrong. Given enough time, game or gaming experience. You'll be shooting players without using your sights unless of course your 500 meters away with an Enfield.I always head north after I have a box of matches, hatchet, and hunting knife. Sadly I hit a rabbit with a hatchet 10 times before and it never died. :(
herrjon 478 Posted March 30, 2013 I wouldn't consider a week of playtime enough to "know everything". Sure you get mechanics down and basic surivial, but you obviously don't know how to deal with players. You don't have to KoS at all, but that doesn't mean go out in the street and wave your arms around. You need to stay in cover whenever possible, and when coming in close contact with players, even friendly encouters, ensure they don't have a shot on your. Request they lower there weapon (ctrl x 2) and keep a sharp on what their character is doing. If you don't feel safe around them, disengage and get back to cover without arousing suspicion as soon as possible. You can be friendly, you just have to be smart about it. Turning into a bandit just because bandits keep killing you, doesn't help the problem.
Captain Speirs 9 Posted March 30, 2013 Try avoiding ppl while talking in direct, if they don't respond or doesn't sound friendly simply avoid them or try to take them out. It's better to avoid because most ppl usually have at least one friend nearby.
Provos 7 Posted April 7, 2013 I am getting so tired of getting KoS. Half the time I don't even see who killed me. I enjoy the zombie survival aspect of this game but I am becoming disillusioned with the constant death.
Saethkept 134 Posted April 7, 2013 (edited) It's the ancient agrument in DayZ and similar games, although DayZ is rather unique. Take heart. Some try to enforce a death match experience in the game for other players, while others seemingly like yourself OP are more into the zombie survival and PvE. Best bet I think is to always plan for and expect the worst behavior from other players while sticking to your own code of in game ethics. Don't let others make you into a KoS killer, but always be ready to defend yourself. You can be a mostly good guy all of the time, just be prepared to die often for it. Also, as someone else mentioned, there are other ways and places to gear up. Go to ground in the forest; become a denizen of wooded hollows and hidden valleys. Learn by watching others from cover, and a play style that suits you well will emerge on its own. Edited April 7, 2013 by Saethkept
rossums 2190 Posted April 7, 2013 I am getting so tired of getting KoS. Half the time I don't even see who killed me. I enjoy the zombie survival aspect of this game but I am becoming disillusioned with the constant death. This is all down to you, nothing wrong with the game. You should ask yourself WHY you didn't see them.If you know for a fact there are hostile people out there you should take longer but potentially safer routes, use cover, watch an area for a minute or so for any movement, avoid major hotspots - if you actually take your time to mitigate the threat it all pretty much disappears.
dallas 5195 Posted April 7, 2013 If you make yourself an easier target, you're easier to kill, but then again it seems like instead of attempting to solve the problem, you've decided to become part of the problem, like so many before you. So I guess I'll save my advise for someone, who haven't made that decision yet.
Powell (DayZ) 734 Posted April 7, 2013 I learned the best way to not get shot is to give them obvious reasons not to. You got to gamble your life, but it's the only way.I always roll a non-military gun, keep it lowered, never wear a ghillie, try to communicate as quickly as I can, and if all else fails, run away.
