Shrapnell 92 Posted March 24, 2013 I was watching a video on Youtube, and in the description was this long thing about DayZ. I skimmed through it to the information on the Standalone, and this caught my eye;At first DayZ Standalone version will cost 15 EUR , then it will be updating. But when you update you will have to pay small amout of money if you want to get your version updated, you will still be able to play on unupdated servers if you don't pay for updates, but ofcourse with new updates comes more awsome things, so I recommend you paying for updates.I hope this is not fucking true. There is no reason for us to have to pay for damn updates. Even if it is only, say, 5 EUR, that is still just, un-needed for. The game will most likely do great and sell a shitload of copies. I really hope this is just some bullshit rumor on some bullshit video to spark some drama. Please, tell me if this is true or not.
GOD™ 2795 Posted March 24, 2013 (edited) uhmmm...link?last i checked it was pay for game and thats it. Edited March 24, 2013 by GOD™
SmashT 10907 Posted March 24, 2013 (edited) That is incorrect. The price will start low and increase over time as more features are added, so if you buy it early you get everything for that price, alpha, beta, full release and all updates. If you wait 12 months you will be paying a higher price as a lot of content would have been added by then. That's the minecraft model. Shrapnell 92 Posted March 24, 2013 uhmmm...link?The video is highly fishy. For one, it is the mod's trailer with Standalone stamped on the fucking title for views.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSmRMd9XhsMI really hope this guy just threw in that bullshit to mess with people. Trust me, I wouldn't fucking buy the game when it released if I had to pay for updates. :/

Shrapnell 92 Posted March 24, 2013 Ok, here is some real bullshit. Not only is the video a copy of Rocket's Mod trailer video, it has moderated comments. Comments have to be approved, meaning anyone who posts a comment about it being an exact copy of the mod's trailer won't get their comment shown.I'm pretty sure he is just trolling people. I hope he doesn't have ads on his video. I wouldn't know, I have adblock.
rossums 2190 Posted March 24, 2013 (edited) It won't happen - Rocket has announced the pricing structure MULTIPLE times on camera. It will have a similar release structure to Minecraft:1. Foundation release will be sold for $252. After one year of development, it will reach Beta status.3. Beta release will be sold for $304. More development5. Finished game is launched at $40__That is the structure they will be using for pricing the game.Edit: I should point out, that no matter what build you purchase you will release any new updates for life. SmashT 10907 Posted March 24, 2013 (edited) Yes similar to ArmA III, so with ArmA III the alpha costs around 25 Euro and includes alpha, beta, full release and all updates. When the game hits beta the price will increase for anyone that hasn't purchased it yet and then it will increase again to retail price once full release is out. TerribleFate 49 Posted March 24, 2013 I dont think they would sell well if they made people pay, for every update. Maybe only a handful of people, I don't think any more than a couple dozen.

Maybe only a handful of people, I don't think any more than a couple dozen.Especially since they are planning on very regular updates (daily/weekly). It would end up costing a fortune. OrLoK 16188 Posted March 24, 2013 I heard you have to blind yourself in one eye to eligible to play the game otherwise snails will walk over your monitor and make it difficult to see...Rumours and misinformation. You have to *think* and do your research before believing anything on the web. There's far too much jumping to conclusions on the net for my liking.RgdsLoK
wooly-back-jack 294 Posted March 24, 2013 I think this early access stuff that seems to be the latest craze (like Arma III) is great. Great for us, to play early, great for Devs to get money to spend on making the full release. It's a win-win imo :)

Great for us, to play early, great for Devs to get money to spend on making the full release. It's a win-win imo :)I love it as well, especially since games that are sold for 60€ (give or take) are rarely worth the price. It's just the people's mindset and good marketting that enables these absurd prices (which, by the way, often don't include DLC's etc.).And a side note: Arma 3 Alpha is awesome! sausagekingofchicago 4711 Posted March 24, 2013 If this was true, this website and the subreddit would be on fire and rocket would have been boo'd at PAX if not dragged outside and stoned. Luckily, he isn't a retard so we're all good.
