tsandrey 379 Posted March 23, 2013 Seriously, why is the DayZMod still marked as "Alpha"? It's mostly finished and most things can't be changed anyway. It's time to remove the Alpha status...
Zionist Wabbit 154 Posted March 23, 2013 Oh, so theres a bug? DONT HAET IS ONLEE ALPHA.-That's the reason for keeping the Mod as Alpha despite it clearly being late-BETA.
Rage VG 4033 Posted March 23, 2013 Because compared to the finished product, it's raw and basic.
Inception. 9443 Posted March 23, 2013 How do you conclude that it is mostly finished?
Zionist Wabbit 154 Posted March 23, 2013 There is no 'finished' product. Since 1.7.4 it's only been minor changes or small additions - I'm still wondering what the use is for a fucking Razor or Toilet Rolls.
Inception. 9443 Posted March 23, 2013 I'm still wondering what the use is for a fucking Razor or Toilet Rolls. There is no use. They are equal to tin cans and such [excluding the throw ability of the tin cans].
SmashT 10907 Posted March 23, 2013 I don't consider it an alpha any more personally but whatever you call it, it's always going to be a buggy mod.
PK Richie 507 Posted March 23, 2013 I always thought the mod was the tester for the SA and the mod would always be work in progress ?
svisketyggeren 662 Posted March 23, 2013 (edited) The mod is the mother of the standalone baby...thats the only and correct way of thinking about it....right now the SA baby is being breastfed by the mod-mother so it will grow strong and eventuelly bigger than the mod-mother...and maybe someday the standalone baby will have a child of its own... Mos1ey 6301 Posted March 23, 2013 The mod development will be continued alongside the standalone so no, it's not really anywhere near 'finished'.

tsandrey 379 Posted March 23, 2013 (edited) How do you conclude that it is mostly finished? What can we expect from the mod? I doubt there will be many more new big features. Standalone will address the biggest issue/problems the mod has. There is no point in marking the mod as "Alpha" when most bugs can't be fixed anyway, and nothing new will come. Mos1ey 6301 Posted March 23, 2013 There are new features in pretty much every build, lol...
BeanerBob 0 Posted March 23, 2013 (edited) Because an alpha is not filled with all features... when all features are in then its a beta Edited March 23, 2013 by BeanerBob
ActionManZlt 160 Posted March 23, 2013 Alpha == a working build during development.Beta == (almost) feature complete, but not passed QA.Release == shippable, put that bitch in a box.The mod is stable and development has slowed pace, but that's mostly because effort is focussed on the SA (which is also in an alpha state right now). Many new features are being added to the SA right now, so if it's not feature complete, then the mod definitely isn't either. Also, almost every update for the mod is quickly followed by a hotfix, because new features keep being added, along with more game-breaking bugs. SmashT 10907 Posted March 23, 2013 (edited) Maybe calling it a perpetual beta would be better suited. Edited March 23, 2013 by smasht_AU
liquidmind 320 Posted March 23, 2013 Alpha == a working build during development.Beta == (almost) feature complete, but not passed QA.Release == shippable, put that bitch in a box.I read a definition that Beta is "content complete". So it might lack some models but all the functions you can perform should already be in.So as soon as all the features are in, it is Beta, as soon as it is shippable, it is Release Candidate (RC) and the last RC that was released, the one that's good enough, becomes final 1.0The only problem with traditional game development is, that it doesn't allow the option to release a game, constantly adding new features, without having it be an "alpha" over most of it's progress, with an extended beta-phase following, almost never reaching final. But technically, dayZ mod is Alpha.
Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted March 23, 2013 I always thought the mod was the tester for the SA and the mod would always be work in progress ?The mod is/was used to sketch out ideas for the Standalone. The mod is equivalent to standing in cold water with only your feet in, and getting used to the cold before diving right in. Carry (DayZ) 6 Posted March 23, 2013 Alpha == a working build during development.Beta == (almost) feature complete, but not passed QA.Release == shippable, put that bitch in a box. That's how it should be. But in today's world it's like this:Alpha == a working build during development.Beta == before deadline - set by crazy greedy marketing guy not developers, of courseRelease == after deadline :D

b683960 3 Posted March 23, 2013 Its called "Alpha" because "Pre-Alpha" is not a term that is commonly used.Dayz it's worse than alpha with so many glitches, exploits, dupes, hackers and official implemented wallhacks (M107 wall hack: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/121769-is-this-something-new-for-the-sniper-rifle-m107/)
Zionist Wabbit 154 Posted March 23, 2013 Oh geez, that couldn't possibly be because they are busy creating the greatest zombie survival sandbox game the world has ever seen.Silly. DayZ MOD is worked on by Community Developers, completely separate to the people working on the Stand Alone.

Grumpy Monkey 396 Posted March 23, 2013 (edited) Does it realy matter what it is called?I guess they stuck to the alpha name because it says a couple of things.1: It still hasn't got all the features that will be included into the release version (stand alone).2: It has got bugs/performance issues in it that will be ironed out in the release version.3: To make a clear distinction between the Standalone and the Mod. If they would call it a Beta that might confuse people to think that it is the test version of the Release version (standalone).
