How to make death actually matter more

Recommended Posts

I completly disklike the ideas.

I'll try my best to explain(My english is very limited): Dayz is a game, the things that you suggest would not be fun, would be a total pain in the apple. I still prefer to play Fast-paced shooter like CoD because it's just more fun, instead of walking across 50500505050 km of map I shoot 5050050505 bullets at people. A game should stay a game, if it's boring, unamusing and if it's like real-life: what's the point of playing it? Maybe you should try hunting AFK. Imho, they're better way of implementing FUN elements while keeping the 'realism' part of the game whitout being over the board like your suggestions.

I hope I didn't make too many mistake, God I wish english would be my first language. Have a nice day :).

So don't play it

Steak's got too much sense to jump on your sinking ship.

Lumberjacks can smell danger. It's common knowledge.

Folk don't want to sit down with the intention of playing DayZ only to be told - "You're not getting to play, go do something else."

Yes it would make death costly, but it would be more costly for the reputation of the game and the studio.

Since you apparently have no rebuttal for the actual gripes with your suggestions and flaws pointed out in your reasoning, I'm just going to assume you used up your last ounce of brainpower frantically forming your comebacks.

Ok.

A timer would piss people off too much. Maybe if zombies ate the corpses so that if the corpse was eaten enough it would become unlootable. It would basically destroy the chance of getting to your body. Unless of course you have team mates who can kill off the zombies and loot the gear.

I think someone else also suggested this idea, the more I think about it the more I like it.

But as was the problem with my original suggestions teams would still be at a huge advantage.

So I'm going to let other people keep building on to their ideas within the thread, since my original ideas weren't that well thought, plus i can't make 1 of my own posts without being horded by angry children.

I am still completely interested in the idea however.

Yes...just use the multi-quote function, or copy the quote [something like:

How about writing a diary with screenshots for the char?

And if he/she dies, it can be used for a slide show with some sad music.

Nah, just kidding. :D

But how do you want to make death actually matter more?

I mean, more the emotional way or do you want to punish the player a bit?

Just imagine, you spawn somewhere and get shot a few minutes later by a sniper with his AS50 lurking all day long near spawn points. Then you have to wait 30 minutes until this repeats. I think the sniper may have some fun, you probably not.

So don't play it

I think I deserved a better answer than that... I mean you could've tried to defend your opinions, If you don't, then what's the point of making a topic? And keep in mind that if you thought I was being angry I wasn't, My english is limited so... Ye It came out like this.

Again, Pardon me if I made some mistakes. Thanks you, have a nice day :).

I think death already matters enough in DayZ, a timer after death doesn't sound like a good idea and would actually be really annoying and not very welcoming to players who get spawn killed. But changing the permissions on looting would probably be a good idea ;)

I like the idea. So if you die in or near a town your body attracts some Zeds. What I don't like is the part with making the body unlootable. If there are Zeds around your body, you need to free in the very first place anyway. So you need at least a basic equipment, like a hatchet.

I personally think that being banned for a short time would provide incentive to live.

Currently, the only incentive is "oh no, my stuff"!

This is a multiplayer game, so we can't switch the map around or anything like that.

No one can mug you for your stuff, because stuff = life.

So why give them your stuff?

It'll give more dynamic interactions between players. Instead of KoSing, you can now mug people, for example. Everyone will be more careful.

Wow, this got heated. Just because "the WarZ did it" doesn't mean it's automatically bad. With the focus on relatively 'hardcore' realism and the rejection of "gamey" suggestions from many of the posters here I would have expected more support for this.

The principle seems sound... if DayZ had a death timer from the start, people would probably be used to it and would be defending it. Would add to realism (kill player, don't see player again for a while).

I get the idea and I support the principle behind it, but I wouldn't want to see it implemented myself... would piss too many people off and... well, honestly, the WarZ did it.
