burritoman259 593 Posted March 17, 2013 (edited) It's practically impossible without xpadder mate, even with xpadder its almost impossible I think there is like hundred different key bindings for arma 2.Best just to use keyboard and mouse. Henryllex~ 407 Posted March 17, 2013 You just cannot do it, there are to many keys to bind, better get used to the good ole mouse and keyboard
-Gews- 7443 Posted March 17, 2013 What else could you really need? You'd also need a zoom, free look, left and right leaning keys, strafe left and right, hold breath, channel switch, fire mode, binoculars, night vision, etc.I suppose you could do it, but you'd be horribly handicapped against people using a mouse and keyboard.

The very fact you are using an analog to aim is a handicap itself. But it's not impossible to do.In fact, you could just use one of the unused buttons on the controller as a modifier, set it to Alt/CTRL/Shift, and then set the button to toggle, and then you can map everything else to anything on your controller. Like, if you want to lean, you could set DPAD right as the modifier (In this case, shift) and have SHIFT+(Whatever button you bound L2/LT to) to lean left. Press DPAD right again to remove the modifier and you've got the other controls again. You could theoretically do this with all 4 DPAD buttons, with LSHIFT, RSHIFT, CTRL and ALT. You could then essentially have 13 extra buttons for each one you use. Edited March 17, 2013 by Rage VG
burritoman259 593 Posted March 17, 2013 (edited) Well, you got me there, but couldn't you for leaning say bind right dpad and use the movement stick to lean?Probably wouldn't work too well but still. Edited March 17, 2013 by burritoman259

beavis_5000 111 Posted March 17, 2013 I cant even get the controller to work.... How do I enable the controller. Ive enabled it in the options menu but it still doesn't work.
Rage VG 4033 Posted March 17, 2013 Well, you got me there, but couldn't you for leaning say bind right dpad and use the movement stick to lean?Probably wouldn't work too well but still.Yes, since really, all that XPadder would do is bind an axis movement (Let's say, +X) to a button. So you'd just have to find out what button you have +X and -X bound to, and set those to lean when shift is pressed.
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted March 17, 2013 (edited) I while ago I tried it just for heli controls and it worked really well. Edited March 17, 2013 by Fraggle
creature 1189 Posted March 17, 2013 I hooked one up for flying and driving as well. As far as any other game play though, mouse/keyboard can't be beat.
beavis_5000 111 Posted March 18, 2013 On some servers my aim (Left Trigger) and shoot (Right Trigger) wont work. They wont even work when I try to use a my mouse. Is it just the server? I never had this problem before I started using a controller. And again its only in some servers.
leviski 2152 Posted March 18, 2013 At this point in time dont you think it would be better to use a mouse and keyboard?

Masterfocker 103 Posted March 18, 2013 Sometimes it's glitched. On M&K, you have to hit 'F' a couple times. Whatever 'F' maps onto your controller, you have to press a couple times
beavis_5000 111 Posted March 18, 2013 Thanks for the info MasterFocker. Its always the same 2 buttons when it happens to me and they just don't work period.
Goggalor 191 Posted March 18, 2013 A controller does work well for flying. Not as well as a joystick I'd imagine, but better than mouse and keyboard. Besides that it seems like it'd be too much work setting up a controller to work with ARMA. There's just too many bindings.

entspeak 374 Posted March 18, 2013 I use a ps3 controller for flying and the controller plus a mouse for driving (mouse used for free look). I like the analog controls - especially for low altitude flying. I'd recommend using a mouse and keyboard for walking/running around, it's much less jerky and you'll have an easier time aiming. I've not had the issue you're having, though.
entspeak 374 Posted March 18, 2013 (edited) I agree... a controller is best used for flying and driving only... the analog controls are great for it. Trying to use a controller for walking and running is jerky at best... not nearly as smooth between movements as with a keyboard. Using my controller to run, I found myself stopping in between zig and zag... which could mean death if you're trying to keep from being shot. This is my PS3 controller setup for DayZ.Vehicle (controller, mouse combo) I hold the controller with my left hand and use the mouse for free look, zoom, horn, etc...:Left stick: up - fast forward, down - reverse, left and right - left and right. With the analog stick, you have fine control over speed from inching along to speeding.L1 - fast forward (compensates for the way the left stick makes you slow down when making a hard turn)Dpad Left - Toggle viewDpad Right - Toggle free lookSelect - Get outStart - EjectA controller is particularly great with motorcycles and bikes.Heli:Left Stick: up - nose down, down - nose up, left and right - bank left and right.Right Stick: analog lookL1 - increase thrustR1 - decrease thrustL2 - left pedal - the analog triggers allow for fine rudder controlR2 - right pedalSquare - Auto-hover onCircle - Auto-hover offThe Dpad, select and start are configured as above.I'm not great with planes yet, so... I don't know the best setup... probably add flaps and gear to a button.I had to tweak the sensitivity settings in MotionJoy and in game to find a nice setup that didn't send me careening off the road if I wanted to go around a bend.
