Alienware run Dayz on very high graphics - m14x cheapest version

Recommended Posts

My friend has an Alienware laptop, I'm not sure which type but I think he got it in 2009 and he hasn't had any problems whatosever since. However I would recommend getting a custom built desktop as it will probably be in the same price range with better specs and as it is a desktop you can upgrade it easily so there would be no issues in the future.

JESUS H, I don't get what people do not understand in the OP.

Every time someone wants a laptop, desktops come up. It is mind boggling.

HE DOES NOT WANT A DESKTOP.

@OP. That suggested setup in the OP should play DayZ just fine.

This blows the MX14 out of the water (the thing is honestly a rip-off, no offence). There a couple of upgrades you'll need. I'll make it simple with pics:

First, choose the CPU that has the blue dot beside it:

Next up, you need an OS to even make you computer work. Choose one of the ones I've boxed for you. Don't even consider the others.

Next the RAM:

Those are the three you absolutely need.

The price:

This thing is 2-3 times as powerful as the MX14.

This is well worth every penny.

While I do like the one you had suggested, I think mines is slightly more in value. It sells for about 60 dollars less, and contains a faster CPU with the only con being two GPUs instead of one; things like heat and optimization can be a strong factor. I have heard rumors though that the two GT650Ms have even stronger performance, equal to a GTX675M.

Also, another thing is that running DayZ at very high doesn't improve texture quality apart from 3D resolution, AF and AA. They mostly only affect render distance. What I mean is that for example, if I were to run DayZ at 1920x1080 3D resolution, AA & AF on normal, and everything else on Very low to off, the game would still look pretty similar apart from grass distance.

The truth is if you want a stellar gaming laptop you'll have to pay a lot for it. The more juice the graphics features pull the hotter it will get, and that will mean it will not have as long a lifespan as a desktop. The idea of a gaming laptop is kinda fucked from the get-go. Translation is I would not invest a bunch of money in that sort of thing. Arma2 and DayZ aren't exactly top tier graphics, though they do have some cosmetic elements that can tax a computer. Just fulfill the specs you can afford, and buy something that you will be fine with replacing in a couple of years. In my experience you can spend $700 or 3k on a "gaming" laptop, and in a couple of years you will be back in the market. If that alienware is the best deal you can find, go for it. Or, if you want to be cool go down to the last computer store in your town and see if the guy there can come up with something cheaper/better. The question of who assembles the Chinese parts and slaps a logo on them is a little irrelevant. I have met some interesting guys with Russian accents and Spanish names on Dell customer support.

People generally bash Alienware cuz its a brand associated with a large expense, afterall they are very expensive but man sometimes its so petty... it's like people saying dont buy official Nike trainers cuz the fake knockoffs 'without a tick' from ebay will do just as good a job and perform as good. Would you buy the Nike or the knockoffs? you would buy the Nike right?

Don't knock a brand because they are expensive, being expensive generally means they are quality. We know one can can build a gaming PC with same (or even better) spec parts for a fraction of the cost.. jeez. The guy wants a laptop not a monster PC, if he wants to buy an Alienware laptop with his money, why tell him not to? It's actually quite sad to see people bashing them all the time.

They perhaps be haters, cuz they perhaps be jealous. Whatever the reasons are you go get what you want to get pal, its your money.. the Alienware you linked to will be plenty good enough to play DayZ and any other games you want to play on it. That's what you wanted to know right?

Alienware is great... as long as you don't go for the full spec builds. If you wan to run DayZ really well I recommend skipping the m14X and going for the m17x with 7970m. Should cost you about $1,700 which isn't so bad

Tbh I'd go for a high end Asus or MSI over the Alienware. which are just rebranded DELL. and not all that great, I used to sell them and I've seen how many get returned.

Asus and MSI are for more reliable at similar price points

I would steer clear of alien ware, all your buying when you buy one is literally a Dell computer with fancy looks. They overheat and general have terrible specs for what you pay for them. And in case you were wondering "a dell?" Yes Alien ware is owned by dell, who make low end computers.
