Zombie guts (SA idea)

I've made some changes to the OP.

Cons: High chance of infection whilst zombie organs are in your backpack, slightly lesser chance of infection whilst wearing the organs, comes off when it rains exposing you to the Zombies/players due to aggro. Players have to walk (CTRL) to avoid aggro, running will alert zombie suspicion and likely players.

I much prefer the idea of zeds reacting to you depending on how sudden your movements are when you are in their field of view, and how much noise you are making.

With this approach I think the reasons why zeds don't aggro each other could be more easily justified.

But then again, should the zeds attack each other or not?

If zeds were aggravated by sudden movements and loud noises surely they could accidentally start massive fights between each other. One zed sees a survivor running, screams, and other zeds are lured to the location of the noise instead of the survivor, assuming they haven't seen the survivor( now running for his life and becoming the target because the running animation would trigger zed aggro) as well.

If suddenness of movements in addition to loud sounds was the main mechanic behind the aggravation of zeds, players would have more options when it came to dealing with them. For example, you could fire your gun to lure zeds to a location in a city, and while they are investigating the noise you go and loot some buildings. Remember that zeds are going to be able to run indoors so a mechanic like this would be very welcome in my opinion.

While loot is going to be more plentiful in the SA because of more open buildings ,the fact that players would have to walk if they wanted to get across an open area full of zombies would expose them to possible snipers. it would balance things out nicely methinks.

It's always just been that zombies don't attack each other because their primal instinct of food gathering only detects just that (Yes they're infected but 28 days later is still a part of the zombie genre IMO).

I also think now that you can't zombie log, they can run inside, loot is harder to find indoors so more chance of cornering yourself whilst looting. Then we really need little ideas like this to balance out looting. Right now sneaking is the only viable option and if that fails it's a case of 'run like hell into a tree' <_<

Hopefully Rocket isn't stubborn and only sticks with 28 days later.

There seems to be a fair bit of risk involved to balance it out, this adds a bit of a "stealth" option to the game. When you say high chance of infection, what would you consider a high percentage of contracting the infection after you rub sweet sweet zombie guts all over yourself?

There seems to be a fair bit of risk involved to balance it out, this adds a bit of a "stealth" option to the game. When you say high chance of infection, what would you consider a high percentage of contracting the infection after you rub sweet sweet zombie guts all over yourself?

60-70% chance maybe?

also the infected check for symptoms and care little for looks and smell (going with 28 days later here)

And perhaps it could be a craftable suit? Combining a Quarantine suit like this with zombie guys over the top could stop infection.

Oh oh oh! I love this! Man, I've always wanted to walk around in the zombie apocalypse with a hazmat suit on, that'd be badass. Perhaps it could be found in hospitals medical military tents with a fairly rare chance of spawning. The downsides could be you stick out like a sore thumb and cannot wear a backpack.

in my mind it should have severe drawbacks when doing so, as it would be as healthy as jumping into a septic tank. So this should be a thing when there's no other way out of a hairy situation.

the best thing in this topic is the smartass that whines about the chance of infection in covering your clothes in infected guts, but ignores the fact that an infected can hit you 20 times, make you bleed and you still wont be infected/dead/whatever.

In my opinion this is useless in DayZ. Not too many zombies and it would make you a huge target for other players. I'll admit though, it was cool in TWD.

How do you know how many zombies there are in SA's Cherno and Elektro, Berezino, Zele? It's an addition 'sneak' feature instead of the only way of crawling and anticipating zombie movements we have more options.

The game needs more things like this as zombie logging isn't possible in SA..

I did say in my opinion, meaning I like sneaking more. That way, you can avoid both zombies and players. It would require thousands of zombies on the streets of Cherno to make sneaking impossible at some places. I have a feeling that can't be done without causing lag. It would be a good idea though.

In my opinion it's always nice to have a choice in games. Dayz especially requires these type of meta games.

It really comes down to, what kind of zombies are in DayZ?

We dont know, we can only speculate tbh. Although they clearly got great eyesight and hearing.

Wrong. We do know.

The Infected are caused by a virus causing prions in the brain, its a similar way that senile dementia forms.

Why do we know this?

Because its the only bit of backstory ROCKET has ever given us.

Apart from the bit about all the survivors being immune to the virus, so that kind of kills the infection idea dead.

When they talk about infection in the Sa they mean dysentery, etc. Not catching the infected virus.

All this has been on this forum since like april/may last year.

The infected aren't zombies/undead etc.

Err, say what?

Its a good thing that 'zombie logging' will be gone, if you fuck up, you get eaten.

Survival game mate, not easy-mode-loot-collecting game.
