OfficerRaymond 2064 Posted February 28, 2013 (edited) So, get this, grenades and items that... LAND WHERE YOU THROW THEM!I'm sure this has been talked about, and I'm not sure where the developement of it stands in the SA... but shit seriously needs to start landing where I fraking throw it.Other day, tossed three red smokies in cherno firehouse while climbing down the stairs, to make a clean get away from another, very un-friendly player. Where do those smoke grenades land? Well my friends... they land... nowhere near where I tossed them! They ended up teleporting through the floor, and plant themselves firmly in the ground outside, about 10m away, in a nice little triangle. Some may claim that this is a problem with the Arma 2 engine, and not the mod itself. Well, I have played all of Arma 2's campaigns, and all of OA's campaigns, and never had a single problem with smoke grenades. The entire throwing system needs to be revampped. Not sure how or in what style, but I'm tired of the little circle we get, and the two second time frame to choose how far it is thrown.Simple fix could be to take away the circle, and add a trajectory line that fades after 5-6m (so no gung ho, NFL Quarterback, 100m grenade tosses), and this trajectory line will move up/down depending on how long you hold the LMB. This way, people can choose to throw something just as far, but the throws would have just the same accuracy at long ranges as the circle, but paths would be a little easier to predict. Placement would still be key, trajectory just much easier to figure out. Also, add much more immersion to the items themselves. Hate to bring up the CoD bullshit, but their grenade system is spot on when it comes to being realistic. You toss a grenade, and it'll bouce off walls, same with smoke grenades. DayZ and A2, not so much. We need more bouncing Devs! Edited February 28, 2013 by OfficerRaymond
Hydra (DayZ) 472 Posted February 28, 2013 I've bounced frags off of walls and around corners to my targets before. Easy fix to this problem? Learn how to throw.

Learn how to throw.Read the post before throwing around 'learn to play' insults.I have no problem throwing, It is the throwign system and glitches with it that I have the problem with.If you have not had any problems with it, then that is you, kudos. If you have nothing to positivly contribute, kindly remove yourself from this thread and don't post.See you in Chernarus.

You are right though, the system needs an overhaul. You should post your bug on DEV HEAVEN though as on these forums, you are wasting your time. You can even link that video as a repro if you like.

You are right though, the system needs an overhaul. You should post your bug on DEV HEAVEN though as on these forums, you are wasting your time. You can even link that video as a repro if you like.I have never once had a problem throwing inside buildings in A2 or A2: OA. With more than one floor? Forget it.What I'm thinking is that in the programming somewhere, floor levels aren't static things to thrown items, thus they pass right through them, and even teleport around. Therefore, someone needs to program in floors of structures the same as the ground outside, a static surface to thrown items, possibly even more. The A2 engine is fairly old, hopefully with the release of A3 and DZ-SA, items that are thrown will stop acting like, well, just things... and have some immersion. If some asshole is throwing a tin can at my head, I wanna see that tin can spinning in the air, hear it hit next to me, and have it bounce off the ground and become a static item till it is picked up again (with a time limit on it of course, to avoid massive sever lag from item pile up). Not have it fly in the air and remain VERTICAL, hear a *tink*, and have it pass through the ground into... well... God fucking knows where. The bowels of the DayZ codex, perhaps? That is just me. Clearly this will be a problem to some:"It'll be a game breaker I tell ya'!""This game is gonna turn into CoD!""Bouncable items? What a ridiculous concept! This is as gamebreaking as a variety of ridiculous food names! *ragequit*"
DMC14 46 Posted February 28, 2013 i hate the throwing system in this game (not just dayz but arma2) it goes the direction your aiming all the time its just trying to get the distance sucks.

liquidmind 320 Posted March 1, 2013 Ever tried to change clothes in the first floor of a building?glitches you back under the house and kills you... but as there is also a "die on respawn" glitch and changing clothes will spawn you to debugland and back, you are still alive an have all your gear when you log back and even have your corpse there to loot.... 2-story-buildings are horrible somtimes... Xianyu 820 Posted March 1, 2013 You think throwing grenades is ridiculously buggy? Try firing them out of an M203. Not a frag grenade? Don't bother! But yeah, the current throwing system sucks. Hey, I'd like to throw a grenade!Well, select it, slowly pull it out, watch the circle that tells you sweet fuck all, and then throw and pray it doesn't land three feet in front of you.Even trying to accurately put a grenade ten metres away on the ground to try and agro zombies to it so you can loot is a massive issue. Sometimes they go massively short, sometimes they bounce forever. Why? Who knows!

Rifle Eyez 34 Posted March 1, 2013 my main gripe with the throwing is more the time it takes to actually finish the god damn animation rather than direction/trajectory.

lachlan04@live.com.au 37 Posted March 3, 2013 my main gripe with the throwing is more the time it takes to actually finish the god damn animation rather than direction/trajectory.I agree with this, one time when I had a frag I went to chuck it in a church that had two guys fighting off zombies with pistols inside (not usually a bandit, but I just couldn't resist the temptation to actually use a frag and not just die with it later) I stood at the door way, said "Merry Christmas" in the direct communication and tossed the frag in. Meanwhile as my guy stood there and started to power up for the massively distant throw (sarcasm) some zeds aggroed on me and because of the super slow animation I had to stand there bleeding for a bit and subsequently run into a house to bandage myself. I also only killed one of the guys because the frag landed alot closer than what my massive lean-back would have suggested. They should implement a system where you can roll a frag or smoke through a doorway if you are leaning next to it. Also the ability to throw a frag while on the move at the loss of a bit less horizontal accuracy. Other things that could be implemented would be dropping a frag into a cars trunk to destroy everything inside, or just being able to cook a grenade in general.
