Ethics of a Bandit?

I stated out DayZ as being a pretty middle of the road character. Avoiding confrontation with bandits, helping those I came across who were in need (but not going on rescue missions), not shooting on sight and attempting to assume the best about non-bandits. However, I've slowly morphed due to betrayel and boredom into a bit of a psycho.

Now, I pose this question because I don't my actions to cause DayZ to morph into more of a KoS game than it already is. Most people let unarmed players live as kind of an unspoken rule. Here is a recap of my last two encounters with people who let me live when I was unarmed.

1) Two armed players come up on me in the middle of the desert in Panthera and I yell over direct "Friendly, unarmed, please don't shoot!" They let me live and allow me to tag along with them. We come up on a heli, i say i'll check it out. I hop in, it's busted, so i switch to the gunner seat and mow them both down....hilarious but not very nice obviously.

2) I come to an airport that a Bandit is finishing up looting and there are two Urals. I'm unarmed so I just run up and yell "friendly please don't shoot" He says "whatever, I already looted the place, see ya" and hops in a Ural. I hop in the other one and follow about 50 meters behind him. I see him stopping and assume he's about to hop out so I go full throttle to side swipe his driver door. He hops out as expected and splat!

Now both were very fun kills but I don't want to ruin the game for unarmed people who actually are friendly and cause them to be offed. Should I stop this type of action or chalk it up as part of the fun of being a bandit?

You can look forward for the standalone, when being friendly will be more amusing.

I find it sad that friendlies are a dying race and I would want more people to act friendly. That said, Bandits are a part of the game and without them the game experience would decrease dramatically to be a kinda bad game actually. Be a bandit, it's fine really.

I'll say there's three rules for being a "good" bandit though.

1. Obviously: Do NOT hack.

2. Don't shoot unarmoured bambies!! Unless of course, they try to steal out of your bag.

3. Do not tell that you are friendly when you are obviously a bandit. I'd say if you have been acting friendly for more than half an hour, then you've lost your right to betray. That's just cruel.

Yes, but when your opinion is completely stupid and ruins the game we have every right to tell you off, look around and most people here would likely put a bullet in your "pro bandit" head because of your playstyle.

ok my opinion is showing u that being a hero doesnt pay if the nearest bambi and bandit is gonna kill u cause u trusted them.

Meh, I usually KOS anyone who has any type of rifle or shotgun, even pistols or hatchets if they're too close. My weakness is if they are able to say "friendly" or "don't shoot" before I open fire...

I planned to kill a guy in a barn and ran in with my AK but he said "friendly, friendly, don't shoot" over direct, so I felt bad and decided not to kill him. But then he tried sneaking towards me with the hatchet repeatedly saying "there's a Winchester over here somewhere" when it was clearly on the other side of the barn, so I was forced to shoot him.

Your opinion is that being a hero doesn't pay, fair enough. I guess you can't get deep enough into a game to see that its not some CoD deathmatch. My opinion is that backstabbing "bandits" like you ruin the game, and I'm sure most veteran players would agree. The next time you see a bambi I hope he blows your brains (and falsely gotten ego) away with a makarov, but I guess you sit on sniper hill with that DMR of yours because you're too scared of actual conversation. I'll try to speak a bit more on a level you can understand...

dude unlike u im fighting real wars and i dont got time to argue with u and personally i am a bit of a sniper but i do run out in the open spilling the brains of others bandits or not it doesnt matter so imma get back to dayz and kill more players im working on a montage

No, he's some 12 year old kid trying to make himself look tough. I know recruiters and DIs and am part of the military myself, I've seen people like him at basic before, never last more than 3 days.

But if I'm wrong, care to tell me your MOS, unit, where you are deployed, etc?

ok im not deployed yet im getting a college degree done that they r paying for and ill be sent out in 2 years right after 4 year degree their paying for with the 2nd marine division at camp lejeune, north carolina

If you're gonna present yourself as the sharpest minds of USMC, shouldn't you at least attempt to grasp the mere minimum of grammar and Col Brown while we're getting ready to prove who we are, maybe you could also provide evidence that you're a Colonel or brown. :D

This turned out to be a national dick measuring contest quick.

Again, hard to believe that you could get 2 years into college in the state you're in, I've yet to see you form a complete sentence and most professors would rip their eyes out reading that. You still haven't given me your supposed MOS either, and if you haven't even been on deployment I highly doubt you would make it through training, even if you got into RIP and made it through its not something you just drop to go to school. Once you are in Recon its intense.

And no, I'm not a Colonel. That rank is from my clan. I'm an A1C preparing to ship to OCS and flight school.
