Different in-game maps

Recommended Posts

To be honest, the DayZ mod map is a little bit rubbish and not realistic in a survivor-type of situation. Why not make more realistic maps that you'd find that look cleaner and sharper? Something like:

This for finding the major cities and roads

This for finding hills and trees

This for finding resources (if you do decide to add them to the game)

For the DayZ standalone, it should be necessary to change the maps look and feel and what you can do to it. In real life, you can use a marker and circle things, mark whatever you want on the map for things like enemy bases, etc. The map is an essential part of the game - and adding more important and helpful resources for in-game players will let them not have to be constantly checking the Online-Database map.

Thanks!

You can already place markers as well as way points on the ARMA although it's not perfect, it will most likely be reworked in the stand alone.

Not to sound condescending or anything, but you do realise there are a range of markers available in the Armed Assault map function, and they don't have to be displayed to everyone else on the server?

Personally, I think the map is effective enough in the mod...

I agree there should be maps of different types and qualities.

They could range from a tourist postcard with a picture of Chernarus on it (found in shops), over roadmaps (found in petrol stations) to the very rare topographic map (found in army installations). There could be other sorts found in industrial areas, every kind of map imaginable.

Some of them might only cover a part of the playable area.

This, I think, would really improve on the orienteering aspect of Dayz.

Exact my opinion!

And the marks you make on your maps should persist on the map. If you drew up raid plans for the rival survival group's prison-island fortress, for example, and some bambi sneaks up behind you with a double-barrel Scarface style, he should inherit those raid plans. He could then trade that info to these guys for some sweet rewards.

Or, more realistically, when you mark your stash on the map, they could totally see that too.

People could even start using cipher and encryption!

(Or writing stuff down on the back of the Chinese take-out menu by their computer, but we don't like those people)

I do this for so many games... Crafting recipies, little maps, notes. My desk looks like a nerd exploded on it.

Having maps we could draw on and an ingame notebook (all of which could be looted upon our death) might do away with this clutter, and help with our internal storytelling.

Different maps would be a really great thing, combined with 2-3 types of compasses i would really make the orienteering aspect more of an actual challenge.

Notes would be nice too, but for that i would like to see something special for. A notebook of some sort (when you found one of course!) for all kinds of stuff, loot locations, encounters and all the stuff people write down.

I see you have furthered the idea I had somewhere else. I love the idea of maybe finding a few postcards with just pictures of the area, which you can study from some kind of notebook or journal as Rocket has already confirmed.

I like the idea! It would be a cool immersion thing and make the exploration feel a lot more interesting, seeing as now in the mod, I can just pick up a map and stop worrying about getting lost on my way to the NWAF.

Perhaps there could be some way to maybe combine maps too? That way you won't have to constantly pull up loot maps, then road maps again and again. Just a thought!
