DayZ Scenario: Would You Kill or Help

Recommended Posts

After my last experience helping someone as a fresh spawn - gave him a transfusion and he shot me in the back - I'd probably leave this guy to his fate and maybe try and find the sniper.

I didn't get my hero skin shooting folks like that. What I would do is be smart and take the safer way around the back of the city, in and out of alleyways and various pieces of cover and access the other hospital that I rarely ever get sniped at.

I'd help him. I wouldn't feel like I earned my hero skin if I left him or killed him. I will ask him for every single smoke grenade in his pack to make this work though...I love smoke grenades.

If it isn't an IRL friend or someone you know well on teamspeak/ventrilo or similar... then always kill them.

Sorry, but the community in DayZ has made me 100% carefree when it comes to strangers.

I tried to help when I first started out. 9 out of 10 times I'd get shot in the face, even if I didn't have any gear.

So no. I'm not gonna sit here and add lies to an honest thread just because that's the "politically correct" answer to give.

Anyone not an IRL friend or on same TS channel as myself gets either killed or left to rot.

Until the game offers more content which actually encourages helping others there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to help, knowing that it is almost a guarantee that you'll get shot in the face either right away or very soon after you fixed up the person needing help.

That is the truth and it has nothing to do about trying to be an asshole or a bastard. It's simply the result of how to survive based on the repeated experiences where I didn't survive, which are experiences that have been learned through the futile interaction with other people within the DayZ community.

To the OP: I would help.

Having just spawned and being the owner of a lousy makarov and an hatchet I have zero fancy gear to loose and I can do something positive for someone I can meet later on (esp. on a private server), and I would do that with or without a reward. Gear is just gear that can be lost 5 seconds after.

It is also fun. It gives you a purpose other than camping on a hill eating beans.

What's the point of getting geared up in the first place if you're just going to avoid your usual interactions?

You can't let what gear you have dictate what kind of player you are.

I understand folks are less bothered when they're just a fresh beachlander, but it's all the same to me.

In fact, since I'd be more able to defend myself, I'd probably be more confident going in geared up.

EDIT:

By which I mean, I'd still try and help out.

if ONLY more players thought like this.. instead of KoS "cuz i dont want to lose mah gear"..

have some beans mah brother...

After a bad experience a month or so back, I've rarely trusted anyone I'm not in TS or Skype with.

You said I have a hatchet and a makarov.

He has a ghille AND a spare gun in his pack? Doubtful.

I'd chop that boy to pieces.

I'd probably try to help as it gives a different experience. Sure, the easy route is to chop him up with an axe and just take his loot, but that is the boring way. I'd rather see if I could help him out, even if it ended badly, especially if I was a new spawn who has nothing to lose. Even geared, I'd probably help. Once you come to grips that you could lose your gear at a moments notice, that kind of "KOS, MUST SURVIVE EVERYTHING" mentality, goes away and I feel the game is more enjoyable.

Just today, I lost a backpack full of food trying to get a better backpack (Remember, place your pack down first, grab the new one, then transfer over, don't just take the new one with your pack on lol) and rather than just be like "FUCK EVERYTHING", I shrugged it off and decided I could just go to the store and see if I can't stock back up.

no, as stated before, im a fresh spawn, nothing to lose really, as of this point never been sniped or have to avoid a sniper, so it could be a learning experience

If he's a bandit, shoot him and kill him. If not go to the hospital and help him.

Let me rephrase the situation: You're walking through Cherno, when you hear a voice from an alleyway. A guy with broken legs promises you a ghillie, gps, random weapon, and possibly a DMR. Do you leave him, shoot him, or help him.

Help a citizen, make bank, walk away with a happy feeling in your heart and some good gear on your back.
