Siren alerts - zombie horde running in cities

Hi,

I think it can be a great idea to have every "20 minuts" for exemple, a siren who significates that a zombie horde of ~50 zombies arrives in the cities to cross it, and that they are more agressives than usual.

It can add stress, and force players to hide, and to be more scared, because for me and many other players i think, zombie are boring...

Developpers and players, what do you think about my idea ?

If there is technical limitations, only one big horde can run randomly in the map...

Who is operating the Siren?

Don't make it automated. Rather give the player the ability to start the Siren to lure the "Zombies" away (toward the noise away from other buildings). Same thing with church-bells. (The Walking Dead Game)

I dislike the siren idea, but horde, now that sounds good. Maybe spawn 2 hordes (NE, NW corners) at server restart and make them travel South. When they hit the coast, they will stay at the coast and walk along it/stay in the towns/cities.

Imagine seeing the horde walking trough a field to your location. Better hide then :D

or the horde can make very high level noise ! :D more realistic

exemple : in game in a house you heard some far screams -OH SHIT HORDE IS COMING- hide your ass buddy !

Is The siren connectes to a Geiger counter for Zombies ?

Why would there be a random siren? Is school out?

I'd like to see the church bells workable and perhaps they could attract zombies.

because some detectors around city detected that a horde is coming ! siren like WW2 when planes arrives...

or screams... its a choice.. it's just an idea

had a long dicussion while stuck in a car the other day with fellow dayz players our suggestion was to have a Ham radio system run by the server at certain times of the day it would have a survior/broadcaster give a messages to the server warning other players with the small radio's possible (battery powered) of different type of scerino's eg: Zombie horde reported to be moving down the coast from Berzino to Elcectro be warned and say have 25 to 100 zeds move down the coast being more aggresive. would give reason for players to stop and check there watchs to see when the next broadcast would be maybe a supply plane expected to be dropping a bulk container of food medicince and the like in a certain area.

We didn't want to make it so you had to do X,Y,Z to get A more give them something to do and watch what happens next might be sighting of a Fuel truck and a team might want it for there camp or the Horde idea moving thru a ceratin area over the course of a couple of hours different random things not to upset the balance of the game but to give more varitety and depth to it.

The Idea is to have a wise cracking DJ announcing all sort's of random stuff over a 2min show then he shuts down and broadcast again an hour or so later, maybe with some jokes or a sad tune or i dont know some death notices for the players killed in a certain town make it quirky. Survivor type Humour but the only way to listen is to have a radio as Rocket said he wanted batteries and things to have more depth the lack of Direct chat on alot of servers these days means people dont speak they shot first then carry on in side chat typing about why you shot me and crap.

Give them something to listen to or enable a better direct chat. The idea behind the Ham radio is there is alot of people trained to set them up after emergencys to help keep communications going and the idea of a Warped sense of humoured DJ calling out broadcast would add something plus make people actual stop sit and do something other than kill fresh spawns coming off the beachs

I don't believe that is how an air raid siren works... Anyways, I wouldn't zombies being more loud than usual, just from being in a horde, but collectively they would make a fair amount of noise.

so you mean... radio alerts ?

Yes and no more a small radio show with humour and survival type info like how not to burn water or how to treat an infection or some such. Also include an alert in it about an event thats about to occur in an area eg: Horde in so and so or supply plane crashed near such and such village to give players a goal to work towards but not to be over done to have mega death weapons supplied on completion more like. Wipe the horde out with fellow survivors and there is better grade loot on there coprse's or a Fuel truck for there camp site not to over balance it and again as i stated before something for them to listen out for and enjoy waiting for the Next broadcast of the Survivor Ham Radio DJ (i know the name sucks) but i hope you get my drif.

Exactly, its not how it works. It took living HUMANs back then to get air raid alerts and sirens up. Ranging from the simple guy sitting in a tower looking out for airplanes and cranking a siren when he saw them, to a radar instillation keeping an eye on the skies, making sure that thous dots on the screen weren't just a group of B17s returning from a night of bombing before making a call to someone to crank the air raid siren.

To the OP, anything automated would have run down or lost power by now. And I doubt that researchers would have had time to develop 'zombie detectors' before everything went to shit, much less be able to install it in a backwater like Chenarus. People suggest all the time automated things, automated trains, automated buses, automated bombers dropping nukes, automated zombie warning sirens. And to be honest, probably the only reason why the church bells are still going in game is because its programming left over from ARMA that no one's bothered/had time to remove. /rant

TL:DR = No automated sirens letting people know about zombies, the noise of the horde should be enough, if not, pay more attention next time and you wont be cowering in a porta-potty waiting for the horde of 100 zombies to pass you by.

I don't care what kind of weapons you got a what kind of experience iv been playing for a good almost year now but when i see someone being chased by 20 zeds i just say NOPE.avi and run away now if i see a horde of 20-30 now damn thats a scary thought !

I had a a similar idea but I think some buildings and cars should be alarmed. Try breaking into a hospital now!

I like the idea of zombie screams, lights flickering out and car alarms going off. It'd be cool if it was like 80 or more zombies running through major towns only down streets. And when the find players, 20 of them or so start running at them.

If the server can control at least 1 entity on the server, that might just work... You'd have one "horde" agent, basically an invisible character (so he can't be killed), spawn at random point A with target point B, when B is reached he decides on a new random point C, etc., all via Finite State Machine. If a zombie within 100m of the horde agent goes aggro, the horde agent stops moving until the character gets out of range (100m?) or dies, then he continues on. For the zombie FSM, you just add a step where if they're not aggro'd and a horde agent is within 500m, they follow that horde agent unless aggro'd.

The invisible horde agent would be moved by the server and there wouldn't be any zombie horde with it until a player gets close enough ('falling tree making no sound if noone there'-effect), then it spawns ~100 zombies in close proximity of the horde agent who follow it until either all players within range have been aggro'd and killed or the player has gone far enough for despawn to occur.
