DayZ Standalone Suggestion - Loot

Hello,

I just have a small and simple suggestion based on Dev Blog 5 and current gameplay.

Currently, as you mentioned in the video, loot is simply a pile on the ground and in the standalone you have items spawning on tables.

My suggestion is to add to what you have in development by adding a slight white or green glow around items so that if you do happen to find something it is very evident that you can pick it up.

Obviously, you don't want to make it TOO obvious where an item is so I'd recommend making it require you to be looking at the item and very close before the glow appears.

Games like Left 4 Dead and Half-Life do this and I think that it would be helpful to us players if we are looking around.

Just my 2 cents.

Sorry but I really dislike the idea of any loot helper such as a highlight feature.

It is mean't to be a hardcore realistic game but I see where your coming from left for dead and zombie survival on Gmod were two of my highest played games for a long time.

If you're looking right at any item, the "Take item" prompt appears on the screen.

I don't see how making things glow could possibly improve any facet of gameplay.

The point of having items hidden/scattered is to make them easier to overlook.

Only increasing the effort required will enhance the gameplay experience. That's just the kind of game DayZ is.

I think he meant that the Item has a green glow/outline, when you are direktly looking at it, and not make them sparkle like in WoW.

E.g. there are 3 tincans on a table, and you just want to take he middle one you look at it, and the green stuff appears and you know exactly which Item you are looking at. (maybe make the glow effect not emitting any light in the dark, so you can abuse it for looting in dark spaces)

here the player is aiming at the ammobox, so it is highlighted (in Dayz it should be a toned down version of that), but the frying pan in the background looks normal.

I definitely do not want the glow effect to be seeable through walls.

In all fairness, I can't do mean ninja flips like you can with the latest patch either...

But I'm in agreement with the nay say; it'd just make the game feel icky and cheap if items glowed.

I don't see why you'd need them to, anyway. Loot is very clear. It's not as if they all spawn as black items against a black background...

No, i Think that was the point they made in the video, it's harder to find things so you may be lucky enough to check somewhere where someone else hasn't

No, but in real life i don't have to aim at a item to pick it up.

All I am saying is, that this would make the game better in the way, that you allways know what the game has selected for you to pick up. I don't know if it will be as clumsy as the Arma 2 system, but if it is, you are going to have a bad time trying to grab the magazine, that is covered with junk, when every tincan is its own "lootpile".

I think the beauty of the new spawn mechanics will ensure there is no pile of loot, this should make it easier to pick items up.

^^^ This. Pretty much summarized what I wanted to say. I'm not asking for the glow to be so blatantly obvious you walk past and it just glows. Im saying you gotta be looking directly looking at the items and less than 5 inches from the item.

I like the idea of being able to know which loot you are going to pick up, but making it glow is not a good idea. The game is die-hard realistic, and I am sure there are better ways to do so.

Okay, not glow, but at least put a stroke around it....but it would be useless at night, haha.
