Safety Catch - Admit it, we all need it!

Recommended Posts

OK, so who hasn't accedently fired in dayz and caused chaos, it can give away your position and be a pain of loosing ammo to nothing...

Is it possible?

I'd presume the time it took for you to press the buttons and raise your gun is more or less the same time it's going to take for you to press the buttons and flip a switch on your gun.

I'd hate to have safety as an option in weapon modes. If you already got a select-fire rifle, different types of grenades, it takes forever to cycle through the weapon modes. Maybe you could assign a safety on/off key in controls.

Until then, you have a few options.

First of all I always rest my index finger on my mouse wheel to prevent ADs. You can also use the lower weapon action as a safety switch, especially when you're interacting with a teammate, accessing his backpack or giving him medical aid. Last option is drop all your magazines without dropping your weapon and then pick them up again. This will unchamber the round and you'd have to press reload to fire.

Yes safety button would be nice.

With Arma 2 system you just have to remember press esc before you alt+tab and use enter in the action menus.

The finger of the "trigger" trick is quite ok but if you had a safety function you wouldn't have to worry about that, one click and you are in firing mode. Even gun trainers tell their trainees to always engage safety when they don't need to shoot.

You could also start by removing the lmb from the action menu, i wonder why they actually placed that on the trigger button in a mil sim game.

Well, I guess since it's never happened to you, then there's no need to put it in, right? I would say yes, because sometimes you just accidentally fire when using the action menu, and atl+tabbing may still cause that problem in the standalone.

However, if it's going to be used by cycling through fire modes, then I think the grenade, chemlight, and other such options should be assigned to different keys.

This crops up every now and then.

I'd like a more "Reciever"-esque interaction with my weapon, but the inertaction system as it stands just isn't up to a useable safety atm IMHO.

I would like one though.
