If you had the choice, would you remove side chat?

I ask because I was playing taviana. I made a three man team, me and another guy found a wound gillie suit person at kopech. We told him we'd go to byelov and get morphine and blood bags. However, on the way there, we encountered resistance in the form of a lee enfield. Me and him tried to kill him (He shot at me first) However we only had g17s. So I died, and respawned.

I was by byelov, so I figured i'd pick up some medical supplies from the hospital. Got the supplies, ran out after I heard a car which I suspected was a team which had killed me earlier. Got out of there, after taking many zombie hits i run back to kopech only to be greeted with the dead body of my gillie friend.

There were also no nameplates so not knowing what had happened to my other friend and also the fact that I had ran so far to get to the guy, without having any way of meeting up again with either of them... Was the most gut-wrenching feeling I have gotten from gaming.

That was probably much longer than it needed to be, but i think immersion would be greatly improved with this removed.

I like to have a choice, it's more intense without side channel, but if you're traveling alone, it's quite nice to follow the discussion in side or answer if someone asks for help. I've made it a habit of always learning the name of the strangers I group up with and quickly make plans for what we do in dangerous situations or if someone died. Sometimes DayZ just breaks your heart. :)

Not the writing that's really nice if your alone then you can follow whats going on.

I hope "Yes" means that it should be removed, because of the "side chat?" title it's a little confusing ;)

I'm against the side chat, because it destroys the DayZ atmosphere in a way.

Yes but the reason I think it should be removed is because it adds to the atmosphere, confusion, and the feeling of isolation. That's what I like about no sidechat. With text included, I could have met up with my friends, ask them if they died or survived, and i suspect we could have saved our gillie friend if we had came back for him (We heard lots of aks and g17 shots in his direction) and he could have told us to save him. even text would eliminate the uncertainty and isolation that dayz is supposed to center around.

I think all communication should be face to face. No sidechat at all. I don't like Teamspeak. It destroys the isolation of distance. After the zombie plague I don't think there will be any phone service.

I have no problem with radios in the game that you would have to find and repair. That would be cool.

I would like to stop voice coms over side as they can be trolled tooo much. However I do like side chat as an OOC/general chat room.

It would be nice to be able to turn it off it I dint want to see random chat cluttering up my screen or distracting me.

Imo side chat should be removed as ppl just abuse it and it completely ruins the experience for me. It's hard to get immersed in a game with some kid acting the clown on side chat.

Personally I think it should be removed completely. I have nothing against servers with it enabled though, as said above the banter in side (text) can be good, especially if you're playing alone. Voice in side is one of my main pet peeves in DayZ though.

Liking the thought if I had a ingame radio and some batteries, I could 'chatter' up with others with radios,asking where to find more batteries.

No need to remove voice chat all you have to do is mute the idiots who abuse it. Then the rest of us can carry on playing the way we want to play. I am very much against restricting freedoms of any kind, not just in the game but in life, in general.

Personally I don't mind seeing side chat can be entertaining whilst doing a 20k run. Perhaps if there was an option for each user to turn it on / off that would be good.

Then i think the direct chat range should be increased. Im always having a hard time talking to people over direct.

I think that the system the standalone is going with is a reasonable compromise until some sort radio system is put in. Basically, you'll be able to turn sidechat off whenever you want.

Yes, it has no real benefit, and you get things like strange German kids mimicking Herbert from Family Guy with half the server laughing along and the other half swearing and turning down VON in their settings.

I like the radio idea especially if you can only hear it if you have a radio yourself... oh and the radio should have an on/off switch too.
