Why banditing?

Recommended Posts

When a newspawn, who lost nothing more than a minute of their time to respawn, begins swearing profusely and verbally sobbing into sidechat, I'm more inclined to say it is the other party who are little kids.

But why did you kill him in the first place ?

But why did you kill him in the first place ?

Because he ran out into the road, shouting at me, and then called me an asshole because I didn't stop to pick him up.

So I stopped and showed him what happens when you don't understand the difference between being friendly and being your personal taxi service.

One word.... Gear... thats why i do it..

Also you kinda feel like an asshole/badass in my opinion when you kill another dude... thats why I do it.

PS: you arent an immature little kid just because you want to kill virtual characters lol

Honestly it boils down to the lack of content and things to do in this game. You can be a lone wolf and scavenge and survive, or you can do the same with a group. Though aside from hoarding gear and trying to find the kit of your dreams, what else is there? To rack up zombie kills?

In the end people will play however way they want to play, and that is great about having a sandbox game. Banditry is awesome for non-bandits because it gives them another thing to watch out and fear for over zombies, so sorry we didn't let you grab that enfield in the supermarket and blasted you away...

Another thing is, permadeath is lame (great, but lame) in that death really doesn't factor in anything in this game. If I die, I either have a tent with loot stored some place to go rearm or I go out looking for gear and arming myself again. There is nothing to value, and nothing in the proposed Standalone game other than gear, to make you value your character's life.

Once you've overcome the initial loss of losing all your hard earned loot and your character's progression then it plays less and less of a factor in how you play the game.

Untill one day someone find your camp and rob you Dreygar. You are just lucky that you play on server with bambies that do not know how to or where to look for hoarded gear.

Zombies are not a concern in this game. So these are the options:

Kill zombies for no reason.

Loot more stuff for no reason.

Fix vehicles for no reason.

Play running online for no reason.

Or

You can kill zombies to find a gun faster, loot a few places so you can get back in the game faster. Fix vehicles so you can he where you want faster, and run to your corpse when you die. All of these support being a bandit, and putting myself into pvp situations.

If it wasn't for pvp this game would have never took off. If you have issues get to the north, get armed, and do counter banditry I've you will. We like killing, we like it more when you about back.

And on killing a fresh spawn it may be boredom, or a difficult shot. When I do snipe I don't see people for 10 minutes or more sometime. So if I see someone I am taking a shot. There is also something satisfying about nailing a 1400m shot through a 12 inch slat, when all you can see is a blood sprite.

Also, bandits kill escorted indiscriminately. So its not like your the only one who has to watch out.

There is one thread like this every other week and it contains basically the same answers given here. Surviving by just gathering food/water etc or building up vehicles gets boring after a while (due to the infected being easy to avoid/evade). So killing other players is a natural progression. Also, why do you expect other players t be friendly and help you?

Lets put it this way.. I am a bandit.. I am fully geared... when I kill you I dont care about the crappy loot you found in Elektro... Chances are I have high military grade loot when I am hunting little bambis like yourself and Im going to kill you for the hell of it cuz I can and probably wont even look at the loot you have unless I can see you have a better weapon than I. The point is we bandit cuz killing players is fun and ruining another players day is part of the game.

I was under the impression that "survival" meant "wanton murder". My bad.

This has, absolutely, nothing to do with why people kill other people. I don't understand the misconception people have if the zombies are "more of a threat" that it will make people friendly, and/or not want to kill each other as much? Zombies are a nuisance in this game, and if they are harder it will only make them more of a nuisance. It won't make people team up more, and it won't stop banditry.

If you made zombie's harder and didn't add anything else to the game, what will you have? You will still have... loot, loot, kill/run away from zombies, kill players. The game needs content, depth, and a reason for you to value your character, end of story. Just because I have a fancy sniper rifle and all the military grade loot possible doesn't mean I won't get bored and be like... "Screw this I'm going to go snipe people."

Banditry is not bad. In any game you play you are always faced with a multitude of enemies that have different abilities... Bandits are really awful to really advanced bad guys in comparison to NPC enemies.

We will see how things go in the standalone...

Better zombies will however change the dynamic, and from what I have heard, the zombies HAVE already improved greatly, so engagements will be undertaken most likely, at least initially whilst players learn just how the new zeds work exactly, more carefully.

Note: I do hope/believe that the standalone will present a greatly enhanced experience which could make trust/trade with other players more fruitful and I had planned on giving up extreme banditry when the standalone is released.

I chose the path of bandit for the loot, why trade when I can have everything you have? I played that way for months and a few days ago I felt... a little bad you could say, the murder just became pointless at a certain point (at least in the cities where many people were fresh spawns) so I set out on the path to hero. I soon found however that those who I had previously chose to shoot on sight were just as hostile as I used to be, I was murdered time and time again especially after helping people. The path to hero was short lived, and I remembered why I would shoot fresh spawns who had nothing: the second they're presented with the option they'll kill me for what I have. Perhaps my bandit skin makes me more of a target for the average player but after giving 30+ blood transfusions(on my group members, survivors won't let me get near them) and not getting regular survivor skin I gave up hope on losing my bandit skin becuase it would seem I'm too far gone.

So why am I a bandit?

At this point... its the only way I can stay alive...

So some players go bandit because there is no need to be friendly due to the easy to avoid zombies.

Some People just do it (like papasmurf) because he enjoys to ruin other peoples day. (Who would play a game like this when he can't take being killed and start all over again? So propably you don't even do that plus many people have that tents to rearm after death)

A lot of people do it because of the lack of other things to do.

And most of the people do it because they fear getting killed themselves. Most Bandits don't even care about the loot.

Maybe I am strange, but to me it is no fun killing an enemy with a Sniper Rifle without a fight. I once got in a fight with a bandit. Both of us just with pistols. (sadly for me I only got a shitty makarov) and that fight was thrilling and fun. Of course I lost, but it was awesome that way. Sniping Survivors that are busy enough to avoid the zombies and cannot see you on top of that building isn't even harder than sniping zeds. Mostly it is even easier because they actually stand still to wait for a zombie to pass before they cross the street.

But my question is answered. It isn't about the game, it is just about the fun in killing other players. I guess I'll just have to get better in avoiding you guys.

I think it would be an interesting feature if it would be possible to clean Citys from the Zombies so they won't spawn there anymore. Of course this should need a lot of players and even more ammunition and it would be a reason for not killing each other... but it would propably be very easy once you got a helicopter. Well, I'm getting off topic myself now.

Once again, I am not pissed off by bandits killing me. I just didn't get why someone would play DayZ just to kill other players. Have a good time and break a leg... literally!

Well,if I see someone running around in cherno with only a makarov with a train of zeds behind him,I will obviously leave him alone, until he shoots me or he gets too close.

But If I see a sniper in elektro its obviously is a shoot-in-sight idiot and chances are that he has good loot,so I will kill him the fastest possible.

I dont feel shamed after killing him,in fact I feel better to saves some lifes from a kid ^^

Day Z IS a shooter... don't be daft, please. You don't run around with an M14 AIM to kill zed.

I dispute that point, I haven't killed a player but I carry an RPK as my chosen zombie killer. Just because I carry a gun doesn't mean I attack players.

I find actually trying to hold people up(real banditry) to be more intense and entertaining that just Shoot on Sight, but you usually need a few people to do that.

My question is.. Why not? B)

As mentioned before, there really is a satisfaction in basically ridding a player of their hard earned gear, gathered over so many hours, in just a few seconds, knowing that they now have to start again. That or I'm just slightly wrong in the head?

I purposely go looking for players, trouble, and fights now. That comes from a couple of months playing Wasteland, but it's much better than sneaking about, gathering gear for so many hours, only to die anyway. I'd rather grab an AK or Enfield and go run abouts like a mass killer.

You've never liked to enjoy the taste of cinnamon toast crunch?

Then again, the reason we ALL play games in general is because we're bored, eh?
