Well he talked about separating the hives, not sure anything is confirmed.

Do you mean 1st person view or iron sights by "aiming down the sights?"

I meant iron sights. From what he said it's unclear whether the new 3rd person menu option will give you the same, quick RMB access to iron sights. If it doesn't, I can see why it would be annoying. If it does then this "solution that doesn't involve removing the 3rd person view entirely" doesn't actually do anything. In fact it would do the opposite and lock everyone to 3rd person. Guess we're going to have to wait and see.

Arguement: 1st person makes me dizzy and motion-sick.

-I agree with this in the mod since 1st person is very shaky and limited but I have a question for you: Do you feel dizzy and motion-sick too if you played Battlefield or Cod for hours? I don't, and if you do, you're probably a casual gamer and I don't think DayZ will be catering for you. Everybody should be able to play it no matter if you're a casual gamer but you need to adapt with the mechanics of the game like everybody else. Just because it's hard for you to get used to, doesn't mean we have to put an easy button for you.

You are comparing one of the worst first person view in videogames with 2 games that have mastered it. Playing COD, Battlefield, Red Orchestra, Far Cry, Bioshock or any Source engine FPS is nowhere near as annoying as the Arma II engine.

I'd like to know why so many people are so butthurt about 3rd person being removed.

cos they's babies

Honestly, I don't see any reason for 3rd person at all rather than to exploit it for an easier experience

exactly, the only reason babies need

Just how the first person differs from those CoD, Battlefield etc. other than you can alt move your head in Arma? And how does the clunkiness somehow disappear in 3rd person mode?

I am not sure what is wrong with the Arma first person versus other games but I can say if asked before I played Arma what I preferred I would have said first person all day long. It is only this one specific game that I like third person and even here I rarely use it to purposefully exploit, not because I am "better than that" but due to sheer laziness. No matter what I will be playing the standalone because adapting is just part of gaming.

Wabbit, your post is dripping with pretentiousness, bravo on being a video game hipster.

Amen brother. I play Dayz in 3rd person for the same reason I play Grand Theft Auto and don't play Battlefield or Bioshock in 3rd person. It's simply more comfortible to do so.

Why doesn't the survey have "because running in first-person gives some people motion sickness"? not my reason but I've heard it before.

I always use third-person. The only exception is in special scenarios where third-person doesn't work, like if I'm hiding in a bush.

Third-person has saved my ass many a time... watching people run towards me from behind a fence or car or tall grass, or watching snipers from behind a stone wall, for example.

It would be silly to handicap myself if everyone else is using third-person.

People love 3rd person because it's better.

I don't want better. I want difficult. I want immersion. I want to adapt and overcome.

I can live with having the option for 3rd person. What I can't stand is (like stated above) how 99.9% of populated servers are first person, 24/7 daylight, over9000 vehicles and full military starting gear. And when somebody brings it up, the reaction is all "Don't tell me how to play!" "Fill your empty servers!" and other nonsense. All valid points, but none of them address the trend that is happening in this community. The trend to turn DayZ mod into another watered down pvp shooter. What happened to populated night time servers? Why does everybody have to use the invisible periscope?

Yup, afraid of that happening. I'd like to see third-person removed or maybe a "screenshots only" version implemented, but as long as other people have it enabled I'm going to use it too...

I'm not willing to die for my beliefs! :D

I use it because it gives me better vision - obviously. DayZ isn't actually a first person shooter. Sure if you want to hit shit you should use first person but a lot of the game isn't about shooting so it's not appropriate. Frankie(onPCin1080P) mentioned anecdotally that rocket chose to include third person because it gives you back some of the awareness that you lose when playing in first person on a small screen (i.e. your peripheral vision). There's also the fact that some of the greatest games ever made would have been absolute shit if they were exclusively first person (Metal Gear Solid, every GTA, etc). Just because you have some shooting in the game doesn't mean that you have to adhere strictly to the conventions of the first person shooter genre! But as others have doubtless said if it bugs you then stick to first person only servers. I'm fine with it.

As long as everyone's on a level playing field idc what happens. I like being able to peak over walls, grass etc.

I think they should put in a mechanism where you can elevate your view slightly, not third person as such but similarly to the way you can lean left and right to see around corners.

To me 3rd person its cheap, especially in fire fights. People say it gives you a more real life perspective of the world but last time I checked in real life you can only see where your eyes are, and your eyes are in your head not 6 feet in the air behind it. I play a lot of paintball and one key tactic is to shoot at someone and move positions while they are behind the bunker. This is also a real life war tactic but it is completley useless when people use 3rd person because they can watch everything you do while also being completley safe. I try to play 1st person as much as possible but I feel so gimped playing against players that use 3rd person, like laying on hospital roof and looking over the sides. How REAL is that? 1st person brings so much more to the game I don't know why more people don't use it.

I try to play 1st person as much as possible but it's really unfair against people using 3rd person. I think it could be more realistic to usse only 1st person, more tactical too.

Maybe you could be locked to first person for a set amount of time upon firing your gun (with the timer reset every time you fire)... that way once you initiate a firefight with someone, tactics and "realism" kick in. But for everything else (scavenging, survival, running around and scouting, etc.) you would have the nice third person "game" feel.

I'm not sure everybody knows but in the game settings it's possible to set Headbob all the way down. This eliminates alot of the head sway and can make the game easier on the eyes. Not saying that it removes it completey but it helps alot.

Personally I use 3rd person quite a lot. I don't like the way 1st person is done, can't see enough. 3rd person lets me see my character and I also enjoy playing in 3rd person tbh. I know there's numerous of people who prefer playing in 3rd person, know a lot of old school Socom players love 3rd person view.

There's plenty of other games that give you the option of 1st or 3rd person and if they can do it, why can't DayZ? Games like Rainbow Six Vegas, Socom, etc

I would love to use First Person, but the FoV is stuck at some god-awful low number, and I'm a person who gets motion sickness if the FoV in a game is less than 85. Yes, you can edit the FoV in the game files, but that messed up the in-game scope accuracy. I also know that you can lock your zoom-out if you double tap the - key, but aiming down sight on an optics-free gun takes up 2/3 of your screen with silly outstretched arms. So, I'm forced to use 3rd person to get an FoV that doesn't make me puke.

So basically, I would use and prefer First Person if it wasn't coded like ass.

DayZ isn't GTA, and it isn't MGS. The only people who "won't buy if standalone doesn't have 3RD person" are the bandits who lay on top of buildings behind cover. I agree that the 1st person is poorly done and hope it is improved in the standalone.

I'm an honest person, I do exploit 3rd person in situations to get an advantage but I did play a first person only server exclusively for around a week and it's a completely different game. What I found was I didn't really miss being able to exploit it but actually the inability to see myself kind of made the game feel sort of empty or hollow (weird I know but that was the best I could describe it as). All in all I like my 3rd person but if 1st is forced in SA I won't mind.

Long runs are more entertaining and helps with exploration. FOV is crap in FP, useless even. though I do agree limitations need to be in place for corners and building proximity..

I'm going to talk about myself here, because I know people may use it to gain an advantage and what not. I am a hero character and I very rarely enter in PVP activities, because I'm not that good at shooting. I have some awesome moments, but most are just bad. I use the third person because I like seeing my skin, I don't know why, but that's just how it is. If the first person was made better in SA, I don't know if I would use it. Maybe, maybe not. But for now, I'll stick to third person for running around and such. Also, some weapons look really ugly in first person, for example, the remington 870.

EDIT: Not everybody will get the same experience with DayZ let him be a bambi or an experienced player

Isn't that kind of the point of DayZ? Everyone getting a different experience.

Hero skin is better in first person.
