Mines

Recommended Posts

What if we could set up old Russian soviet mines in some places (I would say even rarer than the m107 or the rocket launcher) and arm a trap (that would require a shovel and would have diffirences to normal ground) to both vehicles and players to blow up sky-high.

Is it way overpowered, what do you guys think?

Hello there

I think in a post apocalyptic scenario such as DAYZ, land mines would be a rare beast indeed. Yes, someone may find a cache of them somewhere but for the majority they just wouldn't be available.

So, it's a no from me I'm afraid.

It would be the most rare item since they would be from back in the cold war and maybe they have a chance of not working (since they are old) and you would need a shovel to plant it (so there is no way of putting them in the road) and you could tell the difference between normal grass and mines

If they're going to be so rare and possibly in bad condition when found, as you suggest, then there's really no point in having them at all.

Its just a cool little feature to end game people that want to set up traps and it would have ideally a 65%' percent chance of exploding

I thought you were talking about pits or underground mines.

I would love to stumble across an open pit mine and take a huge Dump truck or Bulldozer for a spin.

I meant mines as in mining for gold, iron ore. Huge holes in the ground. Places where you could find explosives and huge trucks.

I think that putting an IED together from misc. parts would make more sense in the availability side of things.

You can build homemade mines and IED's if you have the know how. I do not see why nobody would in the apocalypse I think that with all the random junk and fertilizer and whatnot lying about someone would create a mine or IED to protect something or somesuch.

It should be a craftable item though, unless its something like a claymore.

I disagree, With the Arma2 campaign, a entire war was fought in Chernogorsk! There could be minefields left over from that ;)

I think it would be neat, to use Arma2s campaign as lore for DayZ. News papers talking about Team Razor from Harvest Red or the Czech Republic campaign. Stuff like that. It would be amazing for old Arma2 vets to have Arma2 lore.

The trouble is, how many folk really know how to make them *without* the internet? And if so, how to make them safely? They can be tricksy things. Ask Abu Hamza.

The idea of left over minefields is more appealing.

Agreed, an area of the map that perhaps offers a quicker, or more rewarding route, but through an old war-time minefield, awesome. Z's could follow in and set off a few, they could respawn on server restart, sounds intriguing...

The mines in ArmA only blow up when a heavy vehicle drives over them... and I mean heavy. It seems like it basically has to be armoured and at least 8 tons. I think it would be more realistic to just include IEDs.

Thats the thing, its left to the players to figure it out. It does not have to be a real bomb recipe to the exact gram and I think if players could play with it and figure out what makes the biggest explosion through testing and trials it could add a whole new element to the game. Think of it...players putting IED's in piles of trash on the side of a road then detonating it when a convoy of survivors drives over it. Already placed minefields are a good idea and has allot of merit but figuring out how to make your own explosives can be even more fun for the exploratory player! DayZ is not suppose to be an easy "pick up and play" game...its a hardcore survival game. Its all about taking risks and getting that reward!

Revive it from the dead you say, well I agree that IED's should be in the game, and Minefields sounds interesting, it should probably be random Spawned marked Minefields i think.

9v battery + RPG rounds = BOOM! (would probably be good to have a trigger in their)

the military would probably be using mines to defend against zeds and they wouldn't have set them all up so yeah.

Land mines are pretty durable. The US military only uses the M18, which can be command detonated or victim activated but other countries still maintain tradional disk shaped mines for area denial. Keep in mind there are places in the world where landmines have been deployed for several years and are still armed and effective for their purpose. Also one does not need to bury the mine to deploy it on a paved road but can cover it up with junk and hope for someone to disturb it.
